April 16th, 2018 Fully - close to Martigny highway

Parking lot close to the entrance/exit of Martigny. WC. Perfect stopover to start exploring Wallis.
Possible to stay a couple of nights without being bothered by the police.
Many biking/hiking trails starting here.

April 10th, 2018 Le Châble-Verbier

Huge parking lot of Verbier resort. Clean WC opened from 8am to 10pm. Many seasoners staying here for the winter. Nice basecamp to explore this wounderful alpine valley. Police doesn't seem to care.

August 30th, 2017 Incredible views 32mi after Haines Jct

I do agree, spectacular view and very quiet! Worths a stop even just for a picture!

April 6th, 2017 Santa Cruz parking save

not possible to overnight here anymore.

April 3rd, 2017 Malibu Beach

Great spot as it is maybe the only free one in the area. Quiet till 6am. No police came.
Tom Hanks amongst other stars are leaving in the little street along the shore, just few meters south of this point on Malibu Road. With a bit of luck you might see one or the others when walking around in the neighbourhood.

March 20th, 2017 Wild Beach/ Lagoon

Forget the idea of going on further than this beach without 4 wheels drives. Though it's worth to get over there just to see the sea lions and have a glance to this magnificent scenery. Perfect spot for a free and on your own experience. From here, you'll have to walk around 35 minutes to the cove (last ioverlander spot). The sea lions are behind it and you can get pretty close to them.

March 18th, 2017 Antonio's Ecotours

As I suppose we were not the first overlanders hesitating between Laguna San Ignacio and Ojo the Liebre for a whale watching tour and that I went to both places I'll share my preference.
We really loved Antonio's place. Staff is friendly, accommodations are clean and there is also a cosy sofa area where you can comfortabily make a first clean into your movies and pics of the day drinking a free coffee or tea.
Although most of people recommend Ojos, we had a much better feeling there than at the impersonnal place of Ojos. We only did the whale tour in San Ignacio but after such an experience, we didn't need do to it again elsewhere!
If you do the 9a.m tour, you'll probabily be on your own on bord which is much better as you can enjoy both sides of the boat.
We paid 10 dollars for the night and 55 dollars for the tour.
In addition and to conclude, this area is the most respectful towards the whales of all places is Baja, so worth support them. So if you have to chose between those two, go for this spot, you won't be disappointed! Please don't do any tour in Bahia Magdalena as there is no reglementation there and guides frighten the whales!

March 14th, 2017 Punta San Basilio

We loved that place! Our favorite in Baja. Don't be scared of following the sandy tracks in the river. The second part of this quite long drive to the beach gets better and better. We could do it easily with a 2wd van. Just bring enough supplies with 'cause you are gonna extend your stay here for sure! But you will be able to find goat cheese and some vegetables at the rancho around 1km before the beach. There is a street light on the road. They also propose horsebackriding tours.
Bring wood for fire.
This place is crowded with local families in Easter, according to american cayakers who know well that place...
Was for us the most quiet stay we have ever had!
With a 2wd, around 20 meters from the beach fence to avoid to get stuck.

March 9th, 2017 Whale shark tour bookings - Club Cantamar

This agency is probably the only honest one as it was the only one to say they wouln't take anyone because of the too strong wind expected the day we planned the tour, what would not be good for sharks watching. They checked the wind forcast on which is most reliable. All the others one saying it would be perfect, even the one of the museum which first appeared to us as serious.
Professional agency and one of the cheapest. Also took time to give us recommendations and tips for the rest of Baja.
New and clean gears.
Therefore recommend this place much more than the others!

March 9th, 2017 Property of the owner of the restaurante lupita

The lovely third age couple who runs the restaurant warmly allowed us to sleep inside the proprety. Toilets available. Didn't ask anything for the night but were glad and proud we liked their empanadas so much!

February 24th, 2017 Roca Azul Rv Park & Home Mobile Community

At the first glance this place looks weird but it turns out to be really nice! The pool as well as the areas are clean. Quiet, all accommodations (except kitchen).
Price is 250 pesos per night for a van and 300 pesos for camper, non negociable. Cheaper for a week.

February 8th, 2017 Temex

Here you can overnight for free at the trucks parking place behind de store. Hot shower for 30 pesos.

January 30th, 2017 Las quince letras

Very good restaurant perfect to enjoy typical moles amongst other dishes. Service is perfect. Prices around 100 and 200 pesos. Worths that price.

January 14th, 2017 Posada CasaReal

In this posada, you can have a clean room with hot water and good wifi for 300 pesos. You could also ask the owner to sleep here in his secure parking in front of the room. We could sleep for free as my sister paid a room for herself.

January 12th, 2017 TierrAdentro

Very good and unexpensive food in a nice atmosphere, including foto galery and other cultural features. Participe to the zapatista movement as well.

January 11th, 2017 Restaurant familial

If you need a lunch stop on your way between Palenque and San Cristobald, you should eat here ! Very good typical comida in a lovely place run by a lovely little family. Have to try their typical refresco !

January 9th, 2017 Casados Ranch camping and UMA

Didn't see any jungle here and no animals either at that time. But still a great wild but well equiped spot. Shower, toilets and even a station to empty camping car used water tanks.

January 7th, 2017 Hostel viatger Inn

Very nice place! You can sleep in dorm for 250 pesos/person with breakfast. Really clean, quiet and people are friendly.

January 5th, 2017 Quinta san Vicente Hostal y Hotel

We slept in the lot of this brand new very nice hostel. Internet, hot shower, breakfast for 5 dollars each. A great place!

December 29th, 2016 El Pesquero Marisqueria

December 24th, 2016 Vehicle Storage

Here you can refill your garrafon of potable water.

December 22nd, 2016 Beach public access in the middle of the Bahia Principe Resort

Five stars camping for free and for yourself only (at least at night)! You won't find any better free spot on that coast. Far better than the busy dusty tiny road of tulum beaches before the police check point for instance.
An employee told us than not only the parking and the front beach where public but the whole area including the shower and restrooms. So you don't even need to ask as nobody cares.

December 21st, 2016 Punta Zamach

ok place if you don't know where to park for the night. Lot of trafic day and night. Beach looks great but not really nice for swimming. Nowhere for toilets or shower. May be better for campervan.

December 20th, 2016 Free Wifi (restaurant El Mariachi Loco)

December 19th, 2016 Punta Herradura

I don't know how the coast further north is like as I come from Belize but if that place worths a point on ioverlander, should be quite ugly and dirty! Don't make a turn here! Just a tiny place full of trashes. At my opinion, Toby's place is the only place worth to stay south of Mahahual eventhough you should not expect too much for swimming.

December 16th, 2016 Toby's

Very quiet little town and spot. The perfect place to stay away from the touristic, busy and expensive area of Cancun.
From now on, it's 60 pesos pp.
Don't take the dirt road along the coast heading north between punta hernanda and Mahahual as previous comment recommended, unless you enjoy slow, bumpy, boring road with few points of view over a dirty shore.
If you expect to swim around here, you'll have to continue the road from toby's place along the coast and seek for private hotel beach with clear blue water. In front of Toby's place it's a braun water you don't want to swim in.

December 13th, 2016 Balneario magico bacalar (Camping Bacalar)

Ok place for one or two nights. Not very friendly staff. Felt like we annoyed then being around.
80 pesos pp. A bit expensive for what you get (it's 10p pp for shower and entrance during the day, so why 70p pp just to sleep?)
wifi: TPLINK

December 12th, 2016 Benque Viejo Del Carmen, Belize to Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala

When entering from Guatemala :
Stop at the crossing before the bridge. Don't go to the gate. Wait for the lady and the guy to be busy with trucks and hurry up to take the small road on the left of the bridge. You spare 7 dollars that way.
No insurance to pay if you cross Belize in one day.

December 12th, 2016 Yaxha

Really worth a visit! Enjoy the sunset almost all alone and nights and visit for cheap. Met an overlander who did both Tikal and here who said here was a much better experience.

December 7th, 2016 Ferry

We slept in town at the restaurant point (better option than the parque at our opinion) in order to be early on the ferry. We were there are 6.20am and it was almost desert. Fast crossing. 15q
