Camp without much interest except the possibility of spending the night before departure to see the chimpanzees. Price: 5000Fcfa per vehicle. Track passable without 4x4 in the dry season. Chimpanzee observation with guide: 15,000 Fcfa per person.

Report Check-In

You can call in advance and then they start to made contacts between the guides in the villages (tabankas) to spot the chimps. Once they find the nests, they will guide you in the next morning to see then waking up. Is wild life so you can see well or not.

Mamadu Casama - +245 966 519 086

Mamadu is the main guide, he stays at the camp if someone boked to do the trekking. Other ways someone will call him if you just arrive. He knows a lot about animals and trees so for us was really nice to chat with him around.

Worth the visit and is much cheaper then in Central or East Africa - total PP is 15000 cfa. The second guide (the one that spot the chimps if you need to go to a place further than the camp is already included in the price that you pay. Mamadu pay them after so you don't need to pay nothing more direct to the guy - we asked streigh)

Report Check-In

We arrived about midday and someone appeared who advised us where to camp. We asked about a guide to see Chimpanzees. In evening we were advised they had been located snd so we set out at 5.30am the next day. Lovely to see them even though too quick for us to get any photos. Charges 5,000CAF camping. Then 15,000CAF each (Park fee, observation fee and guide). We'll worth it.
As shower in dusty bathroom not working we were allowed to use bathroom in one of the huts.

Report Check-In

Call before you get here if you want to see the chimpanzee. They have to track them first.

No one there when we arrived around 2 pm. People came in the late afternoon around 5 pm. Very basic place with tap water and a dusty bathroom.

We stayed for one night but they couldn’t locate the chimpanzee that’s why it’s better to call in before you make all the way down there.

Report Check-In

The place is not really in a good condition but for overlander not à problem. Access to tap water is OK. People are friendly. 5000cfa per night for 2 persons. Monkeys in the trees at the end of the day. Really nice walking in the forest at the morning (2000 cfa per person the fees + 8000 cfa per perso the entrance fees+ 5000 cfa per person the guide for the day). We enjoyed our stay

Report Check-In

We stayed 2 nights and watched chimpanzees.
A round hut with 4 beds and private bathroom was 12500 per night for the 2 of us together, breakfast (bread, honey, margarine, coffee/tea) was 1500pp, dinner (rice with beef in spicy sauce and rice with chicken in opinion sauce with fruits for dessert) was 3500 per plate.
Electricity now and then from the village generator. Tap water. No drinks, but shop is 100m away.

The road to get there in dry season is in good condition. Doable for all vehicles currently, even big rigs.

They charged us 5.000 CFA for camping on their premises, didn't negotiate.

To view the chimpanzees, 10.000 CFA pp (2000 national parc fee + 8000 chimp observation fee) and 5.000 CFA pp for Mamadou the guide. We also gave 5.000 CFA in total (we are with two) to the spotter that goes out the evening before to see where the chimpanzees build their nest.

Awesome experience to see the chimpanzees in the wild! Camp looks a bit rundown.. but food was good and all people super friendly.

Road is in a bad state after the rainy season and we gave up 3km into the park due to overgrown trees smashing lights off the truck roof and very uneven and rutted road making truck tilts beyond comfort. I am not precious about scratches to paint and windows but trees as low as 2.5m with solid branches are not fun for a 3.5m rig. Pity because we were keen to see wildlife in GB and already committed to a long drive to the park. Hopefully road is fixed soon but in present state not considered big rig friendly. No sign the trees have ever been cut away so not sure if ever big rig friendly.

On a positive note, last 20km or so of gravel road before the park is refreshed recently and smooth, 20km or so from Quebu to that point is a bit rough and slow driving. 30km from Saltinho to Quebu is potholed tar but not the worst in GB.

Excellent place to see chimpanzees in the wild. The campsite isn’t locally well known as Camp U’Anan and Porno doesn’t work there anymore. It’s run by a guy called Babakar and everyone knows it as the hotel (there’s only one in the village of Jerebem). The shared toilet and shower aren’t the greatest, but the campsite is ok and good value for money (2500 CFA per tent per night). There are little monkeys that play in the trees above in the late afternoon/early evening! What’s really cool is the ability to see chimps in the wild but you have to take a guide and pay the park and guide costs, which aren’t very clear so I’ll set it out below:
Mandatory park entry fee = 2,000 CFA per person
Observation tax for seeing the chimps = 8,000 CFA per person
Guide cost = 5,000 CFA per person

Great experience - the guide took us for a 3 hr excursion where we left at 5:30am, and watched the chimps wake up.

We tried to find the chimps on our own as per comment above (walking to the south village and into the forest) - but they don’t allow you to do this on your own anymore without paying the entry fee and observation tax. But you will not find them on your own! They’re really hidden so paying a little extra for the guide is well worth it.

They have rooms for 10.000 CFA, 15.000 CFA, 25.000 CFA.

We got a twin roon with shared bathroom and mosquito nets for 10.000 CFA.

Food cost:

Breakfast 1500 CFA
Lunch 3500 CFA
Dinner 3500 CFA
Water 600 CFA
Small Cristal beer 500 CFA
Bissap 50 CFA

But we asked for a cheaper dish and she made it for 2500 CFA lunch and dinner, delicius chicken with rice. For 3500 CFA you probably get it with chips and salad in place of rice.

For seeing the monkeys you can just walk 10min to the southern village Mato de Madina and ask some local to point you the path of the forest. After 10min walking by the path in the forest we already saw monkeys and maybe chimpanzees over our heads.

There’s also a woman that cooks breakfast and dinner for 400 CFA in a small shop in the corner of the 2 main streets. She also has tea and coffee and another one sells homemade fried donuts next to her in the morning.

Tried to get in during the rainy season. Road extremely bad for a strong 4x4. Gave up didn't make it

Report Check-In

we had a nice place under trees with a lot of monkeys playing around. The people there are very friendly and helpful with all.
What was a bit disappointing was that there was some adding prices (tax for Nat park) -see pictures for mor info about prices- what they do not told before and that the water was not running all the time (shower).
to see the shy shimpanse in freedom was very impressive.

Bar and restaurant. Lots of space to camp underneath a sky of rainforest and frolicking monkeys. Excellent toilets and showers with purple soap. Ask for Porno who offers an efficient and warm welcome to this female initiated and run co-operative. On some days there is a stall selling local non-pharmaceutical medicines and honey. The site is situated within the village of Jemberem where you can find a nightclub, bars, restaurants and shops.
