Something not right?

Description

Very crowded. No more camping on the beach means there is only room for 6-8 vehicles. No fires.

Lovely free beach that is just difficult enough to get to to ensure little other traffic, great snorkeling also. To get here you have to take the track that runs down into the arroyo just north of km 49 (at curve), follow the track for several miles until there is a fork in the road, take the less inviting right track, and follow the road until the end. There are some gates you have to drive through, we opened one, eventually came across a vigilante (no guard now) who welcomed us to camp at the beach. The road is best for higher clearance vehicles but would not be surprised if a town car could make it out here. A few softer sand parts, a few rocky, a little climb, probably best to avoid soon after rains as there is much arroyo driving... There are two beaches

Pick up after your dogs!

Gorgeous beach and bay. Take the road east at km 49, it's about 15 km to the beach, but about 45 minutes. You pass through a rancho, so you have to go through 2 gates. The first one you open and close yourself (be sure to close it, it's an active rancho with cattle). At the fork, go right, left goes to a fish camp. The second gate is locked and at the rancho itself, there is a guard that will take your name and vehicle license number and allow you to pass. We were there in the afternoon and left before dark, so I don't know the hours that the gate is actually manned. They are limiting the number of vehicles allowed, but I don't know the limit. There are a couple of houses, apparently one used to have a restaurant, but it's not open any more. Camping spots are limited, no charge as far as I know. The beach area itself is now a reserve, which is nice as it helps keep it clean. Good place for paddle boards, kayaks, swimming, snorkeling.

Wow. Amazing spot. We were lucky to be here all alone as we hear it gets very busy. Clean beach. No toilets anymore but 2 trash cans to use that get emptied often. Still some toilet paper around - boooooo!!!! Please please bury tp …..deep. 6-10” at least. TP is the grossest ! And wet wipes are even worse.
What a beautiful spot.
The road was just graded and is fine except for a few spots. High clearance 4x4 recommended.
We will be back for sure. Happy safe travels all.

Report Check-In

The road itself is fine, especially compared to other places we have been in Baja. However, the key point missing from all the reviews below, is the road is narrow. We are a full size truck with a medium size truck camper, and the overgrowth was too narrow, and too short to drive through without severely scratching up the camper. I would not do this road in anything bigger then a van, and even that might leave with some new pinstripes.

we tried.. local gringo suggested it. it is clearly closed as previous poster said. big locked gate and private property sign at mile 9.. apparently someone bought it and will be making a resort

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Locked Steel Gate at the 1st Rancho…. 40 minutes into a 50 minute drive to the Playa from Mex 1.

Report Check-In

Out of season really nice place, but long drive on bad and partly steep dirt road. There is a Pit toilet and everything is really clean. Still free. Unfortunately there is a plan to construct a Hotel and Houses at this place in the Future.

This spot is still amazing and you can’t beat the solitude and beauty this place provides. It’s really unfortunate that people have started claiming spots and staying there for months. They’ve even started leaving pretty much all of their gear when they head to town for the day (or a few days) to keep their spots. One person had their stuff stored in two perfectly good places that someone could have camped in...when there isn’t much room to begin with. It’s such a shame that other people don’t get a chance to have the same experience because of a couple of people who seem to think they own the place. Just be warned that space tends to be very limited these days.

Report Check-In

Nice bay, pretty well protected from north winds and probably south as well, very popular. Road is good. Stop at the ranch (at the streetlight) see José for fresh vegetables, eggs and goat cheese and bring chocolate for his niños!

Report Check-In

Devastating... when I found this place and shared it here, there were no fences, you could camp right on the beach, NOBODY was out here (maybe a Mexican fisherman once a week), the very picture of Baja isolation... now I cannot find a place to park, they have “happy hour”, people leave their gear to claim spots (even though there are so very few) and long termers have moved in... let this be a warning to anyone posting their gems on iOverlander, their days are numbered... the single biggest regret of my decade long overlanding career...

In June we were alone on this great beach for 2 days. Fabulous show from the flocks of pelicans diving-bombing for fish. This is a beautifully cared for beach. There is a fence to stop vehicles driving close to the water, but we could still park anywhere we wanted. A few minutes after we arrived a guy turned up, waved at us, then emptied the rubbish bin and disappeared. No request for money. The long-drop toilet is spotlessly clean and even has toilet paper!!! Great place and kept more special by it being a rough 4x4 trail to get there.

After another 3.week staying at the bay we have to say goodbye😫..great place with nice peoples.
Still great opportunities to by vegetables, eggs and maybe cheese at the Rancho. Sometimes a fisherman-Antonio- is selling fresh Scallops and fish right at the northern end of the beach where he likes to camp for a few days, but don’t give him money if he offers to buy grocery etc. for you in Loreto- he took some money from some good friends of us and other Overlanders and was never seen...so he stole the money!

1 hour + drive down a long road with loose gravel and soft sand. Many confusing forks in the road as well.

The owners have new rules:
-No fires
-no camping on beach (there are 6-8 designated “parking spots”. They are very close together with no privacy.
- must pack out your own waste (you need your own toilet)

This place can get very windy

Our favorite place at Baja has changed but it’s still a beautiful spot- yes, it’s not longer allowed to camp on the beach but if’s not to busy there you will find your spot; we stayed there 8nights and we’ll be back for more; the good, old days are over

Report Check-In

a little crowded when we arrived but it thinned out after the holiday. We spent 3 days here and although it was cool and windy we really enjoyed it. It's a bit of a trek in and a few turns to figure out (it was right, right left. You can go to the North side if the winds are coming from the south, or south side if winds are from the North. Lots of sailboats stop here too for protection of the bay.

No campfires now and no facilities, although there are trash cans as they are trying to keep the place pristine and it was very clean.

Colapsotrip

We came here with a city 2wd car Nissan Versa, it was difficult and we have to go slowly and stop to take off some rocks on the road, but at the end we arrived well :). The beach was amazing, the reef was very good near the two little islands and the right rocky side, we swam through the bay and was easy but cold better use wetsuits. When we came back the farmer allows us to take other way, this road was better and shorter and we arrive in the km 40.

Really great spot! Worth the drive (if you have the right vehicle!). Tracks in are sandy and narrow at points. Could be done in 2wd, but not advisable for RV’s.

You can no longer park directly on the beach as a fence has been installed, so not as many spots as there used to be, but there are a couple of spots along the fence line (3-4 little tracks run from the road up to the fence). Use one of these and it still feels like you’re right on the beach. We saw a couple of basic fire pits too.

When we were there it was very calm weather in the mornings with some wind in afternoon, but nothing crazy.

No amenities as stated, but it’s so beautiful it doesn’t matter.

Great for paddle boarding. We did some snorkeling at a small but well populated reef on the south side (it’s just at the point - there’s also a small beach just round the corner from it where you can drop paddle boards whilst you snorkel). There are some other spots to snorkel at (around the little island) if you have an SUP of kayak to get to them (probably a little far to swim too). We managed to do some spearfishing at Botha spots.

Probably my favourite beach that we’ve been to on the east coast so far. Would definitely go back here.

We also saw the local farmer and got some cheese, veggies and eggs. The cheese was delicious! It was goats cheese, but not as we know it - it was firmer, more like Hallumi. He charges a VERY reasonable price for 1lb of cheese.

Beautiful place with clear water, great for snorkeling! Pretty busy, lots of overlanders and sailboats.

Report Check-In

Great spot for wild camping! We stayed 2 nights there, had the beach all to ourselves the first night and to other Rvs arrived the next day. Safe and quiet. No amenities so bring enough food and water. Great snorkeling, plenty of fish. Not so much shade on the beach.

It took us about an hour on the trail from Mex 1 to get there. Its 17km. It was ok with a 2wd campervan. There might be rivers to cross if its rain season.

Report Check-In

Our best camp in Mexico! Definitely worth the dirt road drive to get here. Absolutely deserted, peaceful, beautiful beach. Just lots of pelicans and crabs to watch. Clear warm water with no waves - great snorkeling. Our 6-year-old daughter learned to snorkel here, finally! (because it was warm, calm, shallow and so many interesting fish to see). Zero facilities so bring lots of food and water because you won't want to leave.

Beautiful beach! We absolutely loved this spot. We had it to ourselves for two days, and on Saturday morning a couple of local families showed up. We wish we could have stayed longer, but we were running low on water. You do have to drive through private property to get here (a couple small ranches).

Report Check-In

Beautiful place. But note: There are no facilities at all, not even an outhouse. So make sure to bring a shovel to bury your poop (and that of your dog), and a lighter to burn your toilet paper (or pack it out). Please help to keep this place clean.

We loved that place! Our favorite in Baja. Don't be scared of following the sandy tracks in the river. The second part of this quite long drive to the beach gets better and better. We could do it easily with a 2wd van. Just bring enough supplies with 'cause you are gonna extend your stay here for sure! But you will be able to find goat cheese and some vegetables at the rancho around 1km before the beach. There is a street light on the road. They also propose horsebackriding tours.
Bring wood for fire.
This place is crowded with local families in Easter, according to american cayakers who know well that place...
Was for us the most quiet stay we have ever had!
With a 2wd, around 20 meters from the beach fence to avoid to get stuck.

Amazing beach. Good fishing and kayaking. Quiet and mostly shielded from wind. We had only 2 other vans plus some sailboats in the harbor.

We were a few days here and enjoyed the wonderful Beach and the beautiful Bay. The very nice way to the place is half as wild 4x4 is not necessary except on the Beach. Unfortunately, we were not so alone as we suspected . Collect the firewood on the way there's not much in the area.

Wonderfull Beach and Bay, like in the Caribian. Very Quiet. No Facilities. Free.

one of my favorite free camp spots in 6 months being on the road. asked several people and locals who confirmed area is safe. there are 3 beaches. i only had to open 1 fence.

Report Check-In

Beautiful beach. Took over an hour to drive the 17km from the highway, just as described (coordinates of entrance from highway: 26.36357, -111.57261). When we arrived there were 6 other campers occupying all of the spots with firm ground. We camped directly on the beach, the sand was a little soft, but no problem with 4x4. The number of campers may have been because it was Christmas weekend.
