Guyana
Free camp within the vehicle in the compound of the ferry company. Normally not allowed but with the correct attitude and questions, foreign overlanders will be granted to stay within the secured area. Wifi available, the young policeman logged in on my iPhone for us.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The departures are just one per day; open at 6.30 am, to start doing many checks; first they give you a form you have to complete; then check your vacune (covid an yellow fever); then in the police office check your vehicule papers and registe in a book; then the security guy of the port, check you papers again and let us go inside with the vehicule; park, to buy the tickets (we paid US95, 2 persons and the van (3.400 kl), check again the car papers by the customs authorities, and wait the ferry,
Report Check-InThey don't let you sleep inside the compound anymore and don't hand out the wifi. But you can sleep in front of the gate (safe) and use the restrooms. Ask them where the line starts and overnight in line, it fills up very quickly already before they open the gate at 6.30 in the morning.
Report Check-InWe were allowed to camp with the car in the vehicle line outside the gate. We could go through the gate to use the bathroom. Open wifi network. Quiet at night, only at around 6.00 (30 mins before check in) other cars started to arrive. Beware: our phone changed to Surinam time already (1 hour ahead) so take into account the correct time.
