Exit Cambodia:
Ww had the wrong exit border on our paper. They wanted us to drive to Poipet which would be a huge detour. In the end they showed us how to request a change of the border exit online (for 10USD...). You can do it by yourself online where you applied for the customs paper when entering Cambodia.

Entering Thailand:
This border is now unpassable without guide and the proper paperwork. We and another couple tried for several hours to convince them but they know the law very well and do not make any exceptions. As we did not want to drive all the way up to Pakse and try it there, we decided to go through an agency. This comes at the cost of USD 800!! The whole thing is a joke!

We know heared of many ppl that were successful on the Pakse border with CPD. So you might wanna try this one.

I would no longer use this border for entering Thailand with a foreign vehicle. They seem to have caught on to people crossing without an agent and are now strictly enforcing the whole procedure. I spent eight hours at the border and three days in Thailand (bike had to be parked in cambodia) trying to get the permissions they told me. In the end a mysterious 8000 baht fee was demanded and i gave up. All in all a very bad experience. Tried another border a few days later where i didn’t have any problems

From Cam to Thai. Very easy on Cam side and Thai side issued 30 days TIP for my Landcruiser camper. Also TM2 form. No questions or issues concerning guides etc. Friendly on both sides.

Easy access to Siem Reap with good roads and not many traffic. No problem leaving Cambodia and no hassle getting temporary import permit for my car

Relaxed border, not taking it too strict with mandatory guide (Thailand) or import permit (Cambodia). We went from Thailand to Cambodia, and did not need the permit that can only be obtained in Phnom Penh. We had delay on Thai side because customs had never seen a Carnet before. Then the Cambodian visa guy overcharged us ($35 instead of $30), but as we didn’t do our homework succeeded. Make sure you pay $30, as this is a common scam. Finally on Cambodian side Customs just allowed us to drive in, without any paperwork. To at least have something when leaving Cambodia again, we asked them to stamp our Carnet. They had never seen one before either, so it took some time. In all, we crossed in 1,5 hours in total.
