Latest Check-Ins

We crossed from Tajikistan on bicycles. Slow and left us waiting in the cold bitter wind while the pudgy guy slowly walked back to the office with our passport. Definitely a stark contrast to the Tajikistan customs and military(friendly and casual).

I guess they expect us not to be cold in this windy day since we cycled the Pamirs in the winter.

Report Check-In

Entered from Tajikistan in the afternoon. We had no issues, the border guards found our e-mail, did not ask for bribes and although slow - we got across in about an hour. That said, a car full of German lads in front of us had to pay a bribe and we also saw another car that was not being allowed to cross.

My advice, be friendly and patient with the border guards, make sure you have sent the necessary pre-email and expect to wait a short while!

Report Check-In

We emailed the Kyrgyzstan tourism department with our passports as required about 6 days previously. The guy at the gate said they hadn't received it and we had to wait one day maximum. We weren't the only ones with this problem. There were 2 other bikers who had camped overnight beside the border waiting to cross. We put our tent up, cooked tea, and then at 6.45, we were told we could go... we weren't allowed to stay at the border. Part of our luggage was checked, and we finally left about 8.30 pm, in the dark.

Report Check-In

We waited for 24 hours despite we sent the email 5 days ago. We sent her back yesterday and today the email has come magically. So we recommend sending two mail. It doesn't matter if the date of the pass is not exact, they only make a list of names when they receive the email and then they cancel them when people cross the border. So if you arrive from Tajikistan I advise you to send it to Dushambe or Khorug because then it will be difficult to have the internet. Good luck!

Report Check-In

Tadjikistan --> Kirghiztan

since 1 week, the border is open again for tourist.
we pass the border the 1st of August with 2 other trucks. (3 trucks, 6people).

no problem on the tadjik side, friendly. take 40 min for all of us.

bit long and slow on the kirghiz side, because they just learn how to do the process. and they had some internet connection problem.
but really friendly and happy to see the border open for tourists.
they offer us some vodka 😂
took is 4h in kirghiz side,

so around 5h the total border experience.

good to know : you 'eed to send an email to the khirgiz tourism department before you arrival at the border. (2days at least I think)
with :
- day of passage
- which way ( from TJ or from KG)
- copy of passport
- copy of car documents
- picture of your car

Report Check-In

Entering Kyrgyzstan. First soldier and guy who stamped the passport were very nice. The customs officer on the other hand was very unfriendly, very bored, super slow and tried to get some bribe. It took more than one hour for him to fill in my name, car data and hand me the paper...

Report Check-In

Exiting Kyrgyzstan:

I arrived at 3pm to no line. Have to take off shoes before entering customs office on the right.

It took me equally as long to take off/put back on my motocross boots as it took the customs and immigration guys to process and stamp my paperwork.

Total time: 15 mins

Report Check-In

Very smooth. It took 15mins. Nothing to pay.

Report Check-In

Entering Kyrgisistan: Very friendly, at the customs we have nothing to pay for our truck! Just getting a temporary import paper.

Report Check-In

Took us less than 10 minutes to cross, staff was extremely polite and insisted us to wait in their living quarters as it was really cold and windy. Next night there was some snow, so even in summer the track between Tadzjik and Kyrgiz borderposts can get difficult without 4wd.

Report Check-In

Easy for cyclists going from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan. You do not have to go inside the building in the middle of the compound on the right, which is for Customs. Just proceed to the gate at the far end, go inside the booth for the exit stamp, and then they open the gate for you. Friendly guys who speak a little English.

Report Check-In

Had to wait 40 min in front of barrier even so just two other cars in frontiers. Then wait again about 20 min in front of customs under roof even so just 2 cars in front of us... people were friendly at least. Foreign cars get things done way faster then Kyrgyz. So try to ask if you can pass / queue jump...

Report Check-In

The Kyrgyz custom guy asked 10$ to process the documents, coming out of Kyrgyzstan. We didn’t pay of course.
PLEASE do not pay ! They’ll let you through anyway !

Report Check-In

As previously mentioned, friendly immigration and customs guys. No charge for a motorcycle entering Kyrgyzstan from Tajikistan.

Report Check-In

We didn't realize that the passenger customs declaration form for temporary import of our motorbikes we got when crossing the border from Latvia to Russia was also applied for Kyrgyzstan (no one told us at the border) Kyrgyzstan is apparently a member of the Eurasian union as well. The form we had was based on the Russian visa which when we wanted to leave Kyrgyzstan was expired. (One could easily prolong that period at the border they told us). The border guards send us back to osh at the customs office to obtain a new and valid form. So be aware of the dates on the customers declaration for your vehicle! It turned out that the fine costs us per bike 1030 som. A really kind lady helped us translating the documents. She charged us 20 dollars. It took a couple of hours.

Location customs office osh: Государственная таможенная служба

Report Check-In

Going from Kyrgyzstan into Tajikistan. Very friendly staff. Didn’t have to pay anything. Some of the officers speak English

Report Check-In

Didn't have to pay the eco tax. Payed nothing. Really friendly. Wanted to buy our car

Report Check-In

Leaving Kyrgyzstan. Paid 15$ eco-tax because I didn't pay when entering from Kyrgyzstan. They didn't want to let me out from Kyrgyzstan without a customs declaration paper I got on Ukraine-Russia border. Because of Eurasian economic union which includes Russia, Kazachstan and Kyrgyzstan. I didn't know I need to keep it. Fortunately after searching my whole car I found it among papers for firestarting. They didn't check our car at all.

Report Check-In

Smooth border crossing. I had to pay 1000 som eco tax exiting Kyrgyzstan, since I didn't pay it upon entering from Kazakhstan.

One of the custom guys saw that I had quite a lot of Snickers. He asked for one in a friendly manner, which I gave. As a benifit, they put me first in line to exit Kyrgyzstan :)

Report Check-In

Kyrgystan to Tajikistan
Kyrgystan side/border
Quick and simple for us. Drove through to the building on the right, customs up the steps. Officer took our car passport and charged us 1000KS for eco tax (although he called it ecological check) and kept our temporary import for Russia/Kazac/Kyrg . Drove up to the exit gate where our vehicle was checked, quick look in the back. Passports stamped at little qiosk to the left and then let through the gate, took 10 minutes.

Report Check-In

Not having local currency yet, like others we also paid $15 instead of 1000som eco-tax to the friendly guy in the office. We just asked for a 12 month car permit which he typed on the print-out without problem. Just at the end he surprisingly asked for a whopping $100, saying that the $15 was very little for 12 months. His receipt however just showed the official 1000som, so we politely pointed to that and he gave up.

Report Check-In

Like the users before they asked us for 1000 som import tax for the car when entering. We paid 150 somoni, another couple paid $15 since nobody had the local currency. Officers were friendly. Road on both sides is in absolutely horrible condition!

Report Check-In

took us 3 hours to pass this border. There was a large tourist convoy coming the other way and only one officer. Customs let us also wait. We had to pay 2500 som for Unimog, was calculated to 38$ , paid 40$. Official prices are on a poster on the wall. Car 1000 som, truck 2500 som.

Report Check-In

Entering kyrgystan, we had to pay 1000 kyrgyz som. we could not exchange tajik som for kyrgyz and they were nice and we paid in tajik som. We did not mentioned we had Usd tho. They also gave us after we asked the 12 months. Note that end of march the 20km road between kyrgyz and tajik border was very snowy and muddy and required 4x4 in some parts. If leaving kyrgyz and entering tajikistan as the road goes up it would be tough if there is snow like we had

Report Check-In

The customs officer at this border was very insulting. We complained at
the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs and asked them about the right
prices. The Ministry apologized for his agressive behaviour and told us
that vehicles have to pay eco tax: cars = 1000 som / trucks = 2500. It
seems that there is a customs union between Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and
Russia. If tourists haven't paid the eco tax at the other borders yet,
then the Kyrgyz border can charge it when leaving the union. If you come
across any rude behaviour at this border please also send a mail to the
ministry of Foreign Affairs ([email protected]). Save travels

Report Check-In

We had to pay 1,000 KGS to import the car and 500 for the motorcycle. Looked legit though. Make sure you have KGS, because it would have been 35 USD. We exchanged USD for KGS with people leaving Kyrgyzstan. I later heard that those leaving Kyrgyzstan also had to pay the import tax, which sounds weird...

The car was checked and 2 filled fuel containers (20L diesel, 20L petrol) was a problem. After a bit of discussion it was no problem anymore. Pretty easy border crossing.

EDIT: We only got a temporary import into the customs union (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Russia) of 3 months. The maximum they can give you is 12 months. Apparently you'd just have to ask.

Report Check-In

Nice crossing without any hassle. We had to pay 1000 Som Ecotax, not sure if legit so we payed it.
