A spectacular motorcycle oriented hostal/ campground. Tim and Isa are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the area and Colombia in general. Can give great advice about what roads to take and things to see. We did some really fun group rides in the area, it seems there’s usually volunteers here as well to join in on the action. I got some stickers printed here in town! I was able to work on my bike here( valve clearance and some other small stuff on my drz). Some great hammocks to chill in. Overall this is a really sweet place to meet other riders and have a good time! It feels like you have a new family and it’s actually hard to leave!(I’ve been here a while lol)

Great place for a motorcycle traveler to spend some days. Really friendly crew, one big family and the food is sublime.

Nothing to add. We took a room, as it was only 20.000 Cop more than camping. Super chilled and friendly atmosphere, beautiful garden, small pool, super clean and great food. All you can ask for.

awesome incredible hostel and camp ground ran by Tim and Esa, and their family come for the family like atmosphere and stay for the gourmet food, great friendship and tour advice. I stayed about a week. Tim gave a sweet gpx that got me around the coffee district. lots of bikes passing through. don't miss this on your way north or south.

Great place to relax and meet moto adventurers like yourself. Wifi, clean camping and many trails to ride in the mountains.

Donkey Sunrise is a Moto Overlander’s dream place. Imagine arriving to a lush garden, with covered palapa parking for your moto, beautiful rooms each painted in a colorful and whimsical style, or camping surrounded by fruit trees. Conversations that last long into the night, other motorcyclists to go adventure with in the area, delicious home cooked meals - you can have all that and so much more if you visit here!

Tim & Isa are making Donkey Sunrise into a truly great destination for motorcyclists & overlanders exploring Colombia. They are wonderful people, passionate about what they are doing, and the energy of that is palpable. In the time I’ve been here I have seen people arrive and stay days or weeks longer than expected because it’s such a nice place to be. Community can be hard to find while traveling long term, and here you can definitely find it. And there’s a pool!

Rooms range from individual with shared or en-suite bathrooms, to a few multi-bed dorms. Breakfast & Lunch are available with lots of fruits and veggies from the Donkey Sunrise Garden. Around Xmas they even organized a few official group rides, with mechanical support and a photographer, which was awesome! There are also motorcycles for rent, if you want to fly in to come here or have a friend visit and ride with you. I was really surprised by how beautiful the landscape in the Valle is too - it ranges from rolling mountains to lush jungles, and almost every type of off-road terrain you can ask for. I’m so happy to have found this place, and it will be hard to leave (until I come back)

This is a must stop for motorcyclists or other travelers. I booked two days to start, and ended up staying two weeks. The people at Donkey Sunrise are amazing. The rooms and facilities are awesome, you will become part of the family when you stay here. I got tips for day trips and places to see in the area, I got help fixing problems with my motorcycle, and that was just the extras beyond the family style breakfasts, the laughs and fun I had, camp fires and roasting marshmallows. I really mean it when I say this is not just a place to stop and sleep, this should be a destination. I can not recommend this place enough. you will regret not stopping here if you miss it on your way through Colombia.

Great place to stay a few days. I stayed in the campground with my motorcycle. Lots of trees and other plants so it feels like you're in the jungle.

You'll almost certainly meet other travelers.

Loved the facility and the hosts. I plan to go back in a few months on my return trip.

Nightly price for camping is COP35,000, which is more in line with a hotel room, but you're paying for the experience and atmosphere here.

Great place to camp for awhile. They have water, electricity, beers, food and hot sowers. The owners parents and Sophia were taking care of everything! There is room for several campers, we fit in with a high top transit. Per night it was 50 for two. We also did laundry for a little more. If you want to paraglide they will also hook you up!

The place is open again. Tim and his wife opened up the place after COVID and it looks really nice. They organised a mountainbike rental for us (without guide!) and we loved it. Because Tim and his wife planted a lot of trees it is only accessible with smaller rigs! The really big rigs don’t fit any more. We highly recommend this Overlanding spot. Tim and his wife are very welcoming and lovely!

I was volunteering at Donkey Sunrise to prepare for their reopening in February. At the moment they are refurbing and not accepting visitors but they will be opening doors for hostel/camping guests again in 3-4 weeks time.

Super nice hidden campsite which is very well maintained. 35k for a night with two persons. Additional 10k pp if you want breakfast, breakfast was very good. Warm rain shower and clean bathroom. They let us use a bathroom of one of the rooms they have. And we could use the laundry machine for 15k. Definitely recommend this place.

I was the first camper since the Pandemic hit which is great news for travellers.
It's a great spot for camping - lots of space and places to sit and relax.
The swimming pool mentioned is now a part of the neighbours, still available but costs extra.

In fairness I can't comment on all the facilities since they opened up for me but they're busy getting everything ready again.

It's an incredibly comfortable place and Tim, the owner, is a welcoming character with lots of local knowledge.

He can organise tours on motorbikes and MTBs too.

I have been staying here for a while in one of the tents and they are very comfortable. Light, power and a mosquitonet included. The pool is a very welcome place to hang out after a day of adventouring. The owners are really chilled and always keep on working to making the place even nicer. There are hammocs to chill in and read on your kindle and there are many activities to be booked like parapenting, motortours (if you have a licence), horseback tours or rent a mountainbike. Thank you Tim and Jorge! It was unforgettable!

Report Check-In

Stayed here a couple of nights, Tim and Jorge really looked after us. All the amenities of what you need from a camp ground inc hot shower and laundry service. They have some meals to offer and cold drinks in the fridge. There is a Small shop around the corner selling basic provisions. A nice spot to stay, plus they do adventure activities .

Echo the comments of SidewaysMoon - just an excellent campground that caters very well to Overlanders needs. The pool is a huge bonus !
Tim, the Dutch owner, makes you feel very comfortable and there is a great vibe at the place. Facilities are excellent, not noisy and wifi is good.No height or size restrictions. One of our favourites so far.

Report Check-In

In addition to being a hostel and hosting work away volunteers, Donkey Sunrise accepts overlanders. Plenty of space for larger rigs, but you’ll want to come in from the north off the main highway. 100 meters or so after the road splits to La Union (stay left on the main highway), look for the little off ramp just before the little bridge at KM 91. The black gate with a big white panel and logo, if shut, is easy to see. Otherwise turn East opposite Parque San Luis. Plenty of room for multiple rigs. No low branches but you might have to maneuver around small individual trees and bushes in the yard. Easy enough for us in full size US truck with pop top camper. Hot showers, motorbike and mountain bike rentals. Paragliding available nearby (Valle Fe Cauca is a world famous XC paragliding destination). Super friendly host and some meals can be taken - just let them know in the AM if you’re interested.

Spent a wonderful couple days here, great hosts, wonderful chef for planned meals (sometimes lunch, sometimes dinner, jus check in advance). Tim and Jorge are building out a wonderful hostel with camping. Nice pool, motorcycles and mountain bikes to rent. They’ll orient you on all the goings on and places to visit. West of town routes to take on little back roads to pretty, untouristy villages. Paragliding nearby. The restaurant is informal but building out to standard menu...for us it was the best meal in town!
