Description

Some ruins and one big house still standing just next to the road to Paso Socompa. It look like a old worker camp.
I set my tent inside the room at the back that is the cleanest and the biggest. Perfect wind protection.
There is pit toilet 20m from the house.

For those who cycle to/from Paso Socompa the road is really beautiful, especially the view from the top of the salar, but the road itself is really hard to cycle, lot of soft gravel and sand and of course washboard nearly all the way. Still worth the effort!

Latest Check-Ins

Possibilities to pitch tents outside and inside the abandoned house. A lot of wind shelter. We slept very well.
There is also a surprisingly clean pit toilet!

Report Check-In

House as described before. I had a big mouse (size of a hamster) checking my bike and all my bags for food. so take care where you put your things.
There's a small mining operation 400m west of of the house. around 10 cars passing the house during the day.
you might be able to get water from the miners. otherwise it's a short hike to the old train station.
many birds and Vicuñas at the train station. I also saw a fox mother with 3 cups.
at the train station is water and a great view on the Salar.

Best shelter around. One room for the bikes and one room to sleep in. Lots of graffiti shows it’s popular with cyclists seeking wind shelter
