Description

A good alternative to staying in Tegucigalpa, although the entrance road to the visitors center was very steep and narrow. Also some hairpin curves with unforgiving ditches. At the El Rosario visitor center they let us camp for free with access to the centers bathroom and showers, although we didn't try the showers. Very small spaces, nothing much bigger then our rig could fit. Free! Price: Free

Latest Check-Ins

Made it up in our Dodge Grand Caravan. Definately some steep narrow turns, but everywhere you'd need more grip is paved or a little wider, but i couldn't imagine driving up in a sprinter. You can at the visitor centre for El Rosario, beside an army barracks (very safe). Hike to the waterfall is really cool, the waterfall itself isn't anything special (during dry season) but you walk through old mine sites through a real and diversified jungle with various viewpoints. Signs in the park are in English and Spanish.
125L per person for entrance and camping

Report Check-In

We tried to drive up this way in a 170 sprinter 2wd. Other comments said we should be ok for length & height. Disagree for length. Some hairpin turns on a narrow road with dirt and deep ditches. Shorter sprinter maybe ok.

Report Check-In

Road was no issue for us (Land Rover Defender), it was wet snd rainy. Didn’t use low range to go up.
The „camping” area is just at the road and there is not much space to level the car but it works for a night. Only space for not more than two cars.
Entry was 235L per person and is good for the other visitor center entry as well.

Report Check-In

Road is fixed and open. Paid $10 US (230L) for entry and camped for free. Very friendly and open people at the visitors' center and small tienda across the street. Bathrooms/showers available in the little hotel within the visitors center, even during the night when the night guard can open the door for you. Confirm all below re: parking and road not good for big rigs, but thought the road was in pretty good shape besides being narrow and steep.

Report Check-In

As of today the road in through the little town of San Juanico has been washed out. It's not passable by car at this time. They were repairing it. Hopefully it will be done soon for you.

We highly recommend this beautiful NP La Tigra. The entry for foreigners is 10 usd. The park is very quiet and beautiful to hike. Good chance to see a quetzal. Ask the people in the small village San Juancito for the way up here. The last 3 kilometers are steep and narrow, but well maintained and without 4x4 possible. Parking place for one camper, idyllic, nice view.
In addition: We met the very friendly and helpful German couple Monika and Jörg (Jorge). They live a little below the visitor center and are interested in overlanders. They have cabana rooms, sell very delicious homemade bread, honey, jam and coffee from the cooperative. Just ask for the two Germans, they've been living here for 20 years so everyone know them. Monika is also a veterinarian. They speak German, English and Spanish. It should be possible to park there as well (leveld ;). Information in previous comments is still correct. Go see the waterfall

the road was ok for our 2wheel drive. (Not when it Rains! ) they fixed a good way on the key-curves. the camp place is also ok. paid 220 L just for entrance the parc. camping was free. we can use the toilet and shower from the visitor Center. the hikes are amazing. there is a 3hour walk to a waterfall (both way) or to the other visitor Center is about 5 hour. unfortunately the Cafeteria was closed. the way there looks much better there was also a touristic Bus... this entrance is more in the Southwest of the parc.

Report Check-In

Road is steep but good to La Rosario Visitor Center. 220 L ($10 usd) per person to enter the park. You have to park/camp next to the visitor center without paying anything extra. You can use the restrooms in the vistor center. Nice staff. There's a convenience store and comedor across the visitor center. Really interesting history of the park. Severa trails to do. Beautiful park. 4x4 recommended. Big rigs won't be able to make the turns up due to narrow road.

Report Check-In

the national park is really nice with some beautiful hikes and long trails (you can hike for hours!) through the cloud forest. chances to spot quetzals, although we didn't, but still nice birdwatching.
but, although I haven't been at the other visitor center on the western side I would hardly recommend to check the other entrance. I saw pictures here and there is tent camping and all in all it seems the bigger and better maintained center. talked to someone that told me there is a big parking area as well. so hopefully the road might be better too. the road here to Rosario is really really steep, we underestimated it and had problems with our engine coming up, although we only have a Chevy camper van and a powerful engine, but it overheated while climbing, puh!
furthermore the parking in front of the visitor center here is not very nice: on a very uneven road, next to a tienda with TV running all day long. completely different to the inside of the NP...
park entrance is 10US/220L per person.
the guy wanted us to pay 100L more for the parking which I refused to pay, as the parking is nothing, and toilets are there for everybody who pays the entrance fee.

Report Check-In

Well, we made it up with a Sprinter van, really steep and narrow road at the last 2 km. They tried to ask 300 L/ night for sleeping in the front of the tourist center, which we pushed down to 150 L. Drive up is not reconmended if you have a low clearance or wide rig.

Report Check-In

75L pp to camp with bath and shower. On the door step of the park (El Rosario). Drive up requires high clearance, would be tough in the rain without 4low. Nothing over 25ft or 11ft tall.

Report Check-In

- camping in front of the visitor center of the La Tigra NP
- the road here is 3 kms of bad dirt and very steep hill. 2WD could be a problem when wet. There is another visitor center on the west end of the park, the road there should be better.
- bathrooms with flushing toilets and cold shower
