This is the first spot on the right of Kitchen Creek Road off Sunrise Highway where you can camp. This spot fits about 2-3 vehicles. Great views nice and quiet in the late afternoon and evening. Cars, vans, and smaller RVs would fit. Great spot to watch the sunset!

The road was closed, even though we arrived early in the day, so we checked the park road closure details, we found this notice:
Upper section: permanently closed 3 miles south Sunrise Highway.
Middle section: Permanently Closed
Lower section: permanently closed 5 miles north of Interstate 8.
Both upper and lower sections are subject to closure based on wet weather or fire danger.

Report Check-InGreat place, January, just a little bit of snow in the forest, but not on this road neither at the spot.
Amazing view!
Gate at Sunrise Hwy is now open! Dispersed camping only allowed past the "Leaving Laguna Mountain Recreation Area" sign. The main dirt loops are about 2.5 miles down the paved road. But several smaller offshoots exist. Roads are in rough shape, any SUV will be fine. Peaceful and beautiful! Saw plenty of blue jays and several quail.
Report Check-InAccess to Kitchen Creek Road off of Sunrise Highway is currently closed. Check the Forest Service Trail and Road Closures site for updates.

Report Check-InArrived at the turn off for Kitchen Creek and the gate was closed (we got here at about 16:00)
Report Check-InArrived in the dark, nobody else here. Road was fine getting to the campsite. Turning off to the campsite there’s some dips and rocks so clearance is somewhat important. No Verizon coverage.

Report Check-InAbout 0.5 mile down Kitchen Creek rd. Great quiet spot with 2-3 relatively flat spots for a van. 2wd accessible but high clearance might be helpful once you pull onto the dirt or just be extra cautious with lower clearance. Kitchen Creek Rd itself is old pavement with some potholes. Great spot to watch the sunset is up a small trail that heads NW through the metal railing and up the hill where a big boulder sits overlooking the mountains and valleys to the west.
Report Check-InOpen to dispersed camping. Lot was full so I went down the road a bit and found a single car spot to stay at.
Report Check-InGate currently closed and no access. There are currently “no dispersed camping” signs all over the Mt Laguna and desert camping areas.
We ended up camping in Blair Valley in the desert.
There are a number of sites on this dirt road off of Sunrise Highway. We have high clearance but regular cars would be ok. Found a nice bigger spot with one other person, but they were tucked out of sight. Many people out and around just viewing the sunset from up here. Perfect sleeping temps mid July. Minimal bugs, a few bees in the am, and quiet. Would recommend.
