Description

Approximately 18 sites/pulloffs scattered along ~4mi of Forest Road 17 and FR 38 in White Mountain National Forest. These coordinates are for the beginning of the forest road and the sites are further along the road. Road is wide and well-maintained and should be passable by any vehicle. The end of FR 38 is a large turnaround dead-end, suitable for large rigs.

Sites vary in size and suitability for tents, vehicles, and trailers. Some sites right along the river. Almost every site was occupied when I pulled in at 18:00, so can get fairly busy, but sites are very widely spaced so no concern about neighbors. Only a couple of cars along the road in the evening, so pretty quiet. Unreliable Verizon 4G at a couple spots along the road.

leave no trace.

Couldn’t find a level spot that was open on FR 17 (the spots are very spaced out so you feel like you’re driving into the thick of it!). Turned onto FR 38 and there were some big level lots back here. I continued to drive and found a spot tucked back by the river that was really beautiful. (Beside the bridge) Huge space, serene running water all night, pitch black. There’s two fire pits, could easily accommodate multiple parties!

We followed the forest road 17, but all the sites were taken. We then took a left onto forest road 38 where there were several sites from small to pretty big (capable of fitting 2-3 big rigs). It’s a dead end road with a turnaround at the end. Since we got in late on a Friday night (19:30), we couldn’t find a free spot but there was a very large level pull off just before the end of FR38, between a pond and the river, where we stayed for the night. Very quiet.

as described. we had a real easy time finding a spot with all the rain going on. 20 min drive from amenities.

These are legit, legal dispersed sites. * see picfure of sign/rules. Most of which have access to a East branch of the Saco River and Slippery brook. pulled in about 9:40pm this past Friday night and got one of the last spots on the left(NW). Waking up to the sound of the water was great. easy water access to the east branch if heading back toward 302. short ride onto N. Conway

Really cool area. We drove through the whole forrest. It was Indian Summer and just beautiful. A lot of the pulloffs are quite small, but some are great for big rigs like ours. Quiet, lonely and nice. Just great.

Not bad at all quite spots though pretty dark are right next to the water. Few bigger spots in the beginning but I went about ten in and found a great spot for the van had a fire pit and a second nice area right next to the water down the hill. Would stay here again forsure. Zero cell service.

Great spots! A ways down FR17 you'll come to FR38. Beyond this intersection there is only one or two campsite on FR17. We traveled a little ways down FR38 and found 3 more campsites. There are likely more, but we ran out of time to explore more.

All these sites are INCREDIBLY quiet. Aside from the rare vehicle noise on the FR, you can't hear any sounds of civilization - no distant traffic, no drugs barking, no air traffic. The only sounds are the wind in the trees and the critters of the forest.

Great location for some true peace and quiet.

Follow the gravel road in past the parking lot, bunch of dispersed camping on both sides of the road, few big spots in the beginning but they were taken..we didn’t go all the way down the road just found a spot we could back into and called it a night our sprinter fit into a spot perfectly fine and right on the river, zero cell service!!

Report Check-In

Just okay - sites are small and very dark. There are a few larger sites at the beginning of the road if you can grab one, otherwise the rest would mostly fit one small car with little room for hanging out.

A local favorite, also known as Town Hall Road. No cell service after official forest entrance. Highly recommended for tent camping and smaller vehicles. Easy river access from most sites. Road is passable for any vehicle, even after rain. Black bears have been seen in the area lately. Please leave no trace!

Uploaded some pics, would stay here again

Great place, tons of spots. I chose to stay in the first giant lot because the spots further down Town Hall rd didn’t have any cell service. I slept in my car and only two other cars pulled up all night to sleep too. I wasn’t bothered.

there are a few spots on Forest service road 13(left at the fork about 5 miles in)I'd guess there are more looking at the net work of roads there. the whole street is a dead end.

Great dispersed camping area, I found the only open spot that worked perfectly for my Class C mini motorhome. Near the river and some walking trails. Only the first few spots appear to have service. There was none where I went.
