Description

Camping and lodge run by the "Urungo Women's Opportunity Center". The site has permanent tents for rent and also gives the opportunity to camp on the perimisss. It's spotless clean and has great food. Behind the lodge there is a valley with farms also owned by the organization. Trucks or cars can enter to the back and camp with a perfect view over the valley. This is definitely a little peace of heaven :)

Lovely camping here. The ablutions aren’t great, shower needs TLC and cold, but after a 13 months of camping in Africa anything goes. Lovely coffee shop. Nice shop etc etc

Report Check-In

We stayed here on route to the border into Tanzania from Kivu Lake. A warm welcome, grassy spot in front of the workshops and next to the kitchen gardens. Cold showers but with powerful flow and clean, basic, compost toilets. 10000 Rfr pppn. WiFi at the restaurant.

Report Check-In

we stayed there after crossing the boarder from tanzania. nice campspot on grass with good view. bathroom was a little bit run down and no flush-toilettes. nice restaurant area with good and free wifi. staff was friendly. paid 10000 rf pppn.

Report Check-In

Classy establishment with all the necessary eco technologies that ensures and supports the causes for which it exists, including our environment. A bit pricy, yet the restaurant food is reasonably priced and is of good quality. Services with smiles all around - felt like we were well looked after!

Report Check-In

Stayed overnight with our 4x4 landcruiser with RTT. Very nice campsite with clean ablutions and a very nice hot shower! We didn’t eat at the restaurant because we brought our own food, but we heard nice things about the restaurant. Besides that it is a very good camping spot, the initiation of the women’s opportunity center is also very good!

Report Check-In

Camping ground at the backyard of the facility with nice view over the valley. Kids bagging for money at the fence. One of us had a hot and one of us a cold shower. So 50:50 chance :-) Probably due to low season almost nothing was available from the menu, but veg pizza was quite tasty. Good stop between Kigali and Akagera NP or border to Tanzania.

Report Check-In

The campsite is nice enough, view is quite pretty. Shower is hot. That said, we felt it was a bit overpriced at $10pppn. Staff was not super helpful, when we asked if we could borrow a blanket the second night they asked for an additional $7pp.

Report Check-In

Agree with prior comments - very quiet at night which was great. Hot showers good. They allowed our kids to camp for free. Camping $10per adult per night with no breakfast. Recommended overnight stop.

Report Check-In

Nothing more to add. A great camp to stay, brilliant coffee and nice craft shop. $10pppn without breakfast. Would highly recommend.

Report Check-In

Spot for coffee and a quick snack. Excellent and inexpensive gift shops on both sides of the cafe with some beautiful handmade crafts. Worth the stop and a good place to pick up small souvenirs, jewelry, baskets.

Report Check-In

Wonderful place to stay. Chef also helped us with a local mechanic to weld our tow bar back into place.

Report Check-In

Camping without breakfast 8,500RF/10usd.
Nice campsite, good restaurant, coffee, yoghurt etc. Very friendly staff. Good stop over before/after Rusumo border.

Report Check-In

Great place to spend a night or two. It’s very good organized. Camping is on grass with view of the valley. Good hot showers, eco toilet. There is also a water tap near the campsite. The coffee and yoghurt are delicious..

Report Check-In

All as described, a lovely place to spend a night or two. Fantastic hot and powerful shower!
Let down only by the strong smell in the toilets - composting toilets but no ash or wood shavings to throw down after use and absorb the odour. Unfortunately quite unpleasant.
Also too much artificial lighting, but we were told there is a plan to change that very soon.
We enjoyed the breakfast included in our $15pp camping fee.

Report Check-In

One of the best places we stayed in Africa. Beautiful, clean and well organiced centre with campsite on grass with shade or tented houses with stunning view over the valley.
Hot shower, clean ablutions and friendly staff. You can buy milk or selfmade delicious yoghurt in the store or drink coffee or tea in the coffee near by!
We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed every second!
Price is still 10$ pppn without and 15$ with breakfast.

Report Check-In

Good peacful campsite - $10pppn or $15 with breakfast. Apparently used by overland buses but we haven't seen them in 2 stays

Report Check-In

Camping below the Complex on Green Grass with nice Views. Ablutions okay (Hot Shower), Restaurant okay (Pizza was not very good but okay), free Wifi, friendly Staff. Also negotiated and then paid 8.500 RFr (8,60 Euro) pppn.

Now called Urugo Women's Opportunity Center. They have dorm rooms available at $20pp incl breakfast. A little bit on the expensive side. Free wifi.

Report Check-In

Great coffee, definitely worth the stop.

Report Check-In

Amazing coffee for between 1500 to 2000. Freshly ground beans are used. Also nice craft shop.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite but it's no longer managed by the Discover Rwanda people and they've increased the price to $15 for camping (incl brkfst). We negotiated them down to $10. Good wifi and a decent restaurant.

Report Check-In

Discover Rwanda no longer involved. Price moved up to $15 with small breakfast (which according to the reception lady is very very cheap for camping, apparently our other option was her $60 room), we felt was very expensive for what you got. Cold shower, no power at site, no wash up area. Apparently a women's initiative eco camp but running many all night lights, display fridges, ect and predominatly staffed by men. Laundry at 500 franc a piece?!!! that all said it was clean and had wifi.

Report Check-In

nice camp with good views, $10ppn including breakfast. food is ok, coffee very nice. wifi is fast when working

Report Check-In

Nice tidy camping spot, hot showers and breakfast included in the $10pppn price. Local children can be annoying, and we have heard reports of kit being stolen from other travellers; chairs, towels etc so be careful leaving anything unattended

Report Check-In

Just arrived here and agree with others. Very pleasant stop, very clean ablutions and nice view! Price is now $10pppn including breakfast.

Report Check-In

Nice place. Camp sites have nice views. Hot showers. Restaurant. Awesome. Only thing to complain about is the Overland truck that pulled in right as we were getting used to the idea of a peaceful night. Bad luck!

Urugo Women's Opportunity Centre is a very well organised Eco centre, which has very posh looking safari type tents & an area for camping. We paid 7,500 francs pp which includes breakfast. The showers are very clean & hot & Eco toilets . Women come here to learn skills - agriculture, empowerment , make cheese & crafts such as amazing baskets. They have a restaurant & a coffee shop with good coffee. Worth a visit even if you don't stay . Seperate entrance for camping & easy access for Big Rigs .
