Description

Caught the ferry here to Utila. They go to Roatan as well. Price for a one-way ticket to Utila was $28 USD. You can probably camp in the parking lot here if you are desperate. Parking was $115L per day and is now 259l per day (motorhome) or 184/day (normal van/car).

Dream Ferries will ship a motorcycle to Utila or Roatán. You must first pay an import tax at the green building on your right as you enter the port. The fee is dependent upon the engine size of the motorcycle. Then, you can buy a ticket for yourself and your bike at the Dream Ferries office.

Report Check-In

We left our vehicle for 4 days here. The parking lot is secure and very practical since it is next to the pier. We paid 184L per day for a 4x4 equipped with a cell.

Report Check-In

Left our van here for 3 days. 184/day for parking (or fraction of a day)… we are a converted Ford Transit van, but I gave the woman working our Honduran TIP that says “type: van” and we were charged the normal car rate, not the 259/day for motorhomes.

1440/pp for a roundtrip ferry from La Ceiba to Utila IF you book online. 1800/pp if not.

At La Ceiba, the port authorities make you pay another 35/pp port tax and 52 tax for a dog.

Then the ferry company charges 100 each way for a dog. They don’t let you wait in the waiting room with AC with a dog on a leash. They also don’t let you sit in the AC section of the boat.

The whole thing cost about $130 USD for 2 people (without parking)… by far the most expensive ferry I’ve ever taken. The employees were pretty rude about us having a dog, not explaining all the fees and getting mad when we asked questions about it all. Our dog had a fever and wasn’t eating, but they refused to let my 8kg dog sit on my lap in any kind of AC. Meanwhile, babies are puking all over the floor…

All in all, we thought it was worth heading to Utila as its such a unique little island, but it’s super pricy to get there.

If you get seasick, the ferry to the island was really rough. The way back was much calmer. We met some friends of friends that posted on a La Ceiba FB group to find someone’s house to park their car for free or super cheap… might be useful for longer stays.

Report Check-In

They have changed the prices and tried to categories us as microbus which would cost 440l per day. We said we are a Casa rodante and now pay 259l per day.

I made my way to the island with a dog.
If you want to go to the island Guanaja you have to take the ferry Galaxy Wave and it will cost you 1373L + 52L tax one way. If you travel with a dog it's 234L + 35L tax (attention you have to pay the tax at the different counter next to all the eating places) and the dog has to be in a crate. If it's a small dog it's get cheaper. Also if there is availablity and you don't own a crate they give you one for free. As you have plenty of time in Roatán till the ferry continues (you have to change boats) to Guanaja you are able to take the dog out and take them for a walk. Just make sure you bring him back in time. Enjoy the islands!

We didn't stay here. We went to Las Hamacas hotel instead, also on Ioverlander. If you stay in the hotel for a night you park for free in a very nice grassy lot, get a free shuttle to & from ferry terminal and a free hot breakfast. We enjoyed having AC in room and cooling off in the pool. It was $59 for 2 people. But good to have this ferry parking option too.

Report Check-In

Safe place to leave the van, we parked him here for 7 days without any problem. Price for parking is still the same, 150L per day. We were parked in high grass and got some ants in the van when we got back. So maybe try and park more on the gravel.

Report Check-In

Save parking for a week. No problems at all. Security friendly and helpful. 150lmp per day. Coming back with Utila ferry in the afternoon. 1h.20 waiting for carpark payment! So think of delays. Make sure you have a spot for the night. It was already dark when we could leave. Better take morning ferry.

Just wanted to add that it's now 650 if you buy a ticket online, and 750 at the cash desk. Parking is 150 per day. Pets are allowed for another 100, you don't have to put your dog in a crate. And you have to pay some kind of port/tourist tax which was 25 pp and 54 for a pet.

Report Check-In

Still 600 one way, you can buy your return ticket at the same time however if you want. Cards accepted. You need to go to the admin office opposite the parking lot entrance for a ticket, then you can go in and park. 150l per day, pay when you leave. Then buy ferry tickets and check your bag if you want. Pets allowed for no extra charge. If you want to wait in the waiting room with ac you have to go back outside to the grey building in the parking lot and pay 25pp. Fairly straightforward, took about half an hour.

600HNL per person for one-way ticket to Utila. A 45-minute ride to the island. You can check in your luggage but we just brought a backpack with us on board. Spacious and comfy ferry with AC inside. We left our vehicle in the parking lot after completing the required paperwork, which the staff will direct you to once you're there. A great experience for us, would recommend.

Left our van here to go to Roatan. Still 150L per day. Big parking area. Need to go to the small building/house on the right, near the entrance to show vehicle registration and ID. You pay when you come back. You cannot stay here overnight.

Report Check-In

600lp one way trip + 150lp parking per day. They also asked us to pay a kiteboarding board (70lp) which is not specified in the terms and conditions from the company. We had a discussion and of course, we ended up paying. When we got to Utila, the board was scratched and the keel broken. They gave us our 70lp back but nobody payed for the board damage.

Safely parked here for 20 days. However, do not take the late ferry back to La Ceiba and expect to stay in your RV or camper overnight and leave the next morning. They will absolutely not allow it. It was near 5PM when they caught up to me in the RV and all the pleading with them did nothing and they said I should have known this when I checked in. Suggested I park just outside the gate which I did and then provided a safe night but the trucks rumbled by until 3 in the morning. One of the worst nights for trying to sleep. With this said, the vehicle was completely untouched for the entire time.

Here you can take the ferry to Utila and Roatan. To Utila you cannot (should not) take your vehicle. You would not fit through the narrow streets...
We parked our vehicle in the harbor premises. The price is 115 lemp/day. They check your vehicle registration and ID. You pay when you drive out. The lot is partly fenced but you cannot drive off since there is a gate. They check every car that drives out. Talked to people at the harbor and utila, and they said, that everybody is parking there and they never heard of any troubles. When we were there, many vehicles were parked there. Was safe enough for us...

Currently the ferry costs 575 Lempiras/Person one way. 2 ferries a day. Not sure about the time in the morning. The afternoon leave at 4:40pm and takes about 45 minutes...
