Latest Check-Ins

We paid 240 Som for registration and 50 Som per person for the GBAO Permit. They kept our passports. We could pick up everything up the next day in the morning. Everything was fast and smooth.

We were told you need to have someone from your hotel or Airbnb in our case; do the registration for you. They have to provide their details in order for you to register. Our host came with us and it was fairly straight forward. We paid 240 somoni total per person and we could pick up our passports the following day.

Vehicle extensions need to be done at a customs office on a border post. I had to drive to the Uzbek border to complete this.

Fairly painless experience, albeit not brilliantly transparent! We applied for x2 GBAO passes, costing 70S each, and delivered back to us the same day. There was also a 10S (UK) and 30S (USA) charge for processing our documents.

Separately we also paid 200S to register as staying in Tajikistan for more than 10 days (as is necessary on a U.S. passport). Staff friendly if not always articulate.

Very irritating experience that took two days to bring to a close.

Prices seem to change depending on mood of staff. (10 som each for GBAO Application, 30 som each for registration application).

Then, told come back tomorrow at 11. They only work until 12 Saturdays, so we showed up at 9. Didn't finish until 2.

Paid 168 each for the registration and GBAO. Make sure you have TWO pictures. They inexplicably lost the first ones we gave them within 30 minutes of giving them.

Final VERY IMPORTANT note: due to some changes in the law, you will need a LOCAL BANK CARD or a LOCAL FACILITATOR to help you pay the money at the bank. There's an older woman in the OVIR who helped us with this. We offered her 30 som each for the service, which she accepted after 3 offers (remember: Taarof). This is apparently a new policy that you have to do electronic payments or use a local card. No idea why but it is what it is.

OVIR office where you get your permit for Pamir and can do the visa registration if you stay longer than 10 days in Tajikistan. You need to bring a registration from a hotel you stayed at! (It doesn‘t matter how many nights you stayed in the hotel, it only matters that they gave you a registration paper)
It seems that the prices at OVIR change depending on the officer & time of day…
We paid more than usual but got our permit & registration right away (it took about 1 hour).
Don‘t forget to go to Tcell or Megafon with your registration from OVIR! Otherwise your sim card will stop working after 10 days.

We came here at 09:00 and they told us to leave our passports and come back at 16:00. After a lot of negotiating we were told to come back at 13:00. When we arrived at 13:00 the staff had changed and the woman told us that if we want the permit the same day we need to pay 50 Somoni more. After another 10 minutes of arguing we were told to sit down and wait. At 14:00 our permits and registrations were ready. Paid 20 Somoni for the copies in the first office, 220 pp for the registration and 50 pp for the permit or other way around no idea. Very time consuming and annoying tbh

Paid 20 for some piece of paper they fill in, 50 for the GBAO permit and 220 for registration. We can in around 16.00 and could pick it up the next day around 16.00.

Here you can register yourself (OVIR) and get a GBAO permit.

Registration is mandatory if you stay longer then 10 working days in the country and travel visa free. First we went to a hotel (Green House Hostel) and pay $5 pp to use facilities and sleep in the van. They gave us a paper with their adress and a stamp that we took to the OVIR office.

At the office take the door on the right side (outside) and give the hotel paper and passports to the lady, ask for registration and GBAO permit. She’ll make the forms and you give those with your passport to the next office on the right side. Maybe they finish it straight away, or they’ll ask you to come back the next day.

We had to pay 220 somoni pp for registration and 50 somoni pp for the GBAO permit. Both are valid for a month after entering the country.

In the end you’ll have two little papers in your passport. One purple for registration and one yellow for GBAO.

You can take the purple paper to a simcard store to extend your simcard, otherwise it’ll stop working after 10 days.

gbao Permit at very right side of building, don't speak English but no problem. first go to office near the door, you get some papers with copy of your passport etc. then go to amonatbank (marked on ioverlander, pay 20somoni p.P.), then back to ovir to the office at the back end. 2hours later we could pick up the permit. are open even saturdays, not sure how long though.

We tried extending our 15 days of road tax here. They sent us to the customs headquarters (38.56919, 68.78514). They in turn told us to go to the train station in Tursunzoda, which we obviously didn't do. If you want to extend, try in Korogh. We won't be there in time, so we'll just see what happens at the border...

EDIT: We paid a fine of 20 TJS at the border for not having extended.
