Description

Pastoral centre of the Kenema Catholic Mission on the roundabout at the Bo-Kenema highway. Straight ahead once you enter the huge compound. Rooms were full when we arrived. We asked if we could put up our tent, but as it was rainy season they went out of their way to accomodate us and offered us a place in the Seminary priest quarters. Rooms are simple yet clean. Electricity and running water available but not guaranteed as this is Kenema. Parking space at staff parking, with security guard. Camping might be allowed if you ask nicely. Caretaker Fodé can put you in touch with local mechanics - ask for Cissé if you drive a motorcycle.

Very quiet big garden area inside pastoral centre place. We arrived with our 4x4 at evening, but 24h are guards there, asking to sleep inside the car, , so ask them permition to overnight here and they will acepted gladly.

The most quite place we had in Sierra Leone. They didn't have prices for camping, but they ask for donation of about 80 to 100 Le. We didn't got a recepie for that. Roms are 200 Le. You can park at the staff parking and use the shower and the toilet there.

We went to the Paloma Hotel to eat a burger for about 70 Le to 75 Le and it was the best one we had since a long long time ago.

Perfect place to stay if you pass by Kenema ! Quiet, in a beautiful park. We stayed on the staff parking. Gardians during the night stay on the parking, not too noisy. During day, few people are crossing the place but not really annoying. No fixed price but they expected a donation before you live.

I’ve paid 10$ for a big room with ac, running water and electricity, best option to stay in town

After a bumpy day (Bumpe to Kenema through Tongo-4WD a must), I arrived late at the Pastoral Centre and asked if I could camp. I got a nice room with WiFi & hot water and 6 meals (2 days) instead (at the Bishop’s house, not at the pastoral centre itself where they have a guesthouse). Didn’t expect that but I was obviously happy with it and they didn’t allow me to pay anything whatsoever. The Bishop himself is a wise and interesting man but suffering from severe health problems. If you don’t feel like asking favors, the guesthouse is another option (I haven’t seen any of those rooms). In town are plenty of smaller guesthouses but compared to all of them, the pastoral centre is a true oasis away from the noisy and dusty city center (15 min. walking).
