Description

Simple no-frills park with a million dollar view for about 100 Pesos/day, 3000 Pesos/month. 15 amp electric available; but be careful, voltage drops often. Walking distance to town and a stone's throw to the beach. No security and very open area. Safe during tourist season since there are always people around.

We spent 2 nights here under one of the ramadas that line the malecón and it was ok but the constant buzzing of flies prevented us from enjoying time right outside our van. The ground is wet in patches with what appears to be other vehicles Grey water which attracts the flies. I hope it was only grey water!
The bathrooms were clean but had no toilet seats or paper. The cost to use them was $5 pesos and $10 pesos for a cold shower. The water in the shower smells quite swampy. In the end we decided it was worth it to spend a little extra and move over to the opposite end of the beach to Laguna del Tule which is a much nicer campground with a pool, restaurant, hot tiled showers and proper toilets with paper. The cost for a space there is $350 pesos / night with full hook ups. A bargain!

It is called by Canadians & Americans ´Melaque West Free Beach Campground’, and by Mexican ´El Moyo Trailer Park’. Prices are 100 Pesos/day, 3 000 Pesos a month. 15A unreliable hookup available if you pay the bill and if you provide up to 500 ft wiring cable. Showers & toilets (men/women) provided, sewer hookup & intermittent unpotable water also provided.

We had a look, but did not stay because running gray water into the bay and dark into an open pit next to your rv is not our thing

2015 price is M$50 per site (not per person). Plenty of grass for tent camping, but the few shaded sites go quickly.

This site is located on a hill, only a few yards from the beach. You can walk to a calm part of the bay. Good location for inexperienced swimmers. The rest of the bay can get rough and has strong undercurrents. Unfortunately, a creek located between the park and the beach is the source of raw sewerage that may flow out during heavy rains. Fortunately, the tourist season is dry season and you will not experience this. Independent testing done by visiting tourists show that the beach is safe for swimming when the creek is not flowing. And you can see when it does.
As for the park, we have stayed here more than once, and for more than one month at a time. There is a cost, during the tourist season, and if you will be staying more than a day. And there is 15 volt electric hook up available. Bring your own LONG extension cord. You pay what you use.
Sorry, I don't remember what the daily fees are. Monthly used to be $1,200 pesos a month, + $300 for the night watchman. I understand that as of 2015, the night watchman is no longer there, and the park will not provide security. The park personnel will lock up the gate at night, and long term residents have keys to the gate. Just ask someone to let you in or out.
Problem with the security is that the park is not closed in. Walk in access is all around and they cannot legally keep anyone away since the park must grant access to anyone wanting to go to the malecon. So, night time theft and nuisance is possible.
Everyone keeps an eye out and watches over eachothers property. Nothing extreme has been reported.
Sewar is done by the park digging a deep drainage hole and you can place your black water hose in there. The system is covered with tree branches, tarp and dirt, so there is no smell. But, be careful walking or driving through , especially after someone leaves. We have seen cars fall in to the 4 foot wells. The system is far enough from the beach, and the ground is sufficient to filter out anything that may go in to the water. Unfortunately, this is the only system they have, and they will continue to do this until forced to stop by the government. No different than millions of homes around the world that do the same thing.
There are bath houses at the entrance that you can use. Somewhat clean. And water is available free on site, but must be transported from their well to your rig. You can pay someone to do it, or have your water trucked in.
Dog friendly and not unusual to see strays walking around. They claim to have a no air condition/no generator policy during night time. Some sites have a palapa built on, or you can pay to have one built. Must use their builders.
Access to the park is by an unfinished dirt road on the
northwest part of town. You may need to ask directions for the best way in as their are 2 or 3 possible ways.
We liked the park and their residents. We are disappointed about lack of security and feel that they should address this.
WE find it to be very economical and the view is breathtaking!!. The park on the hill with the million dollar view for $100 dollars a month.
PHOTO shown is of nearby Blue Bay where you can spend the day swimming and picnic. Small full-service restaurant on the beach. No public camping allowed as of this date.

We were here on a soggy day and we didn’t hang around long. It seemed very crowded and the beach just wasn’t that pretty to us so we decided to head on. It is close to a little town where you can find some great food.

Report Check-In

Camping at the north end of town overlooking beach next to mirador trail. No one was there to collect money, so free! Toilets were 5 pesos/use, no showers, no wifi, no hookups. Felt safe parked next to Canadian snowbirds, but gate wasn't locked and a few cars in and out at night.
