Description

A nice camping spot up in the mountains of the Michoacan. There is a playground here for kids, and some peacocks wandering around the ground. A short walk away are some beautiful lakes.

Came back here because of hurricane Beatriz, and because of how sketchy Ciudad Colima is. Hung out with the lady who runs the place. She's funny. Made fun of me for driving towards a hurricane, not speaking enough Spanish, and then she tried to set me up with another camper, before making fun of me some more for my bad Spanish.

Currently the camping options are the big grassy area with the hookups, or the area by the football field. Nobody is allowed to camp near the lake because it's too rainy and she's worried about trees falling on people.
Charged me $100 pesos again.
This morning there is a loud church service going on, so if church in Spanish is your bag, be here on Saturday at 10am and maybe you can do that.

I arrived during an absolutely legendary thunderstorm. The old lady, bless her, most likely thinks I'm an idiot for making her deal with me while I got soaked trying to understand her *very fast* Spanish.
Charged me only 100 pesos instead of 150, thanks to the rain, though. I couldn't tell where I was supposed to go, so I just went to the parking lot for the football field and posted up there. There are undoubtedly better locations.

Seems like an incredibly beautiful place, but ooooh that lightning is NOT messing around, so I don't think I'll get to experience any of it.

Open for business, and a solid option to break up the drive from Guadalajara to the coast, go do some nature stuff, check out Comala (or whatever the nearby Pueblo Mágico is called) etc.

Here is the lake camping area of the other IOverlander spot with the same name. You can either camp at the campground for 250 per night (cheaper if several nights), a grassy spot with electricty, water, showers and Toilets, rent a cabaña, or do dry camping with tolites and fire places at a forest area at the lake for 70 pesos per person. Very quite during the week.

Here is the entrance for both spots. They belong to the same company. You can either camp at the campground for 250 per night (cheaper if several nights), a grassy spot with electricty, water, showers and Toilets, rent a cabaña, or do dry camping with tolites and fire places at a forest area at the lake for 70 pesos per person. Camped here for a night. H2o and electricty work. The lake has a lot of bugs. Cool area at base of volcano.

We spend a day and a night here by the laguna and it was amazing! It was sunday so it was busy but at 7 pm everybody left and we had the whole place to ourselves. In the morning we went for coffee in yerbabuena!

Absolutely lovely crater lake. We came on a Saturday in the afternoon and it was hellish ponchis ponchis music everywhere. We were told that most would leave by nightfall and so it was. We woke up alone with fog over the lake and a wonderful day dawning.

We stayed 2 nights here. 250 pesos each day (2 adultos + 2 kids). no sewer as they promised in their web and in person. they had electricity and water (we couldn't connwct our hose, so we fill the tank when we need it).
we arrived on friday and leave on sunday. really really loud and bad tecno music on saturday's night untill really really late.

we could make it in our 26ft RV but get full of cars and the entrance to the campground is really thight.

A lot of trash in the short walk to the lake.

We camped on a friday night and it was fairly quiet, specially at night, but I am sure saturdays are busier. We drove to the end of the road and parked beside the water. I recomend checking out the hiking trails.

Report Check-In

Very calm on weekdays, but very crowded at we. Rather expensive: 70 Pesos/P.

Great little campsite in the mountains.
After you check in, turn right after the playground and you'll see the campground - it has 15 amp power and water.
We paid 250 P a night.
They have bathrooms with very cold showers, but they are clean - even have a two seater toilet lol.
We are in a truck camper towing utility trailer, we could have made it down to the other campsite at the lake.
Internet is only available at the office, work ok for our cellphone.
At the office they sell a few snacks.

This place is on the same premises like the other entry close by. It's right on the lake about 700 m down a dirt road. Not suitable for US style big rigs. There are no facilities but concrete roofs with tables and benches and the remains of bathrooms with flush toilets. No WIFI, no cell reception. The area is teeming with parrots and other birds and there's good fishing in the lake. MEX$ 50 pppn and an extra MEX$ 10 if you want to use the WIFI in the area close to the office.

150 pesos for the night. we are in a small van. It was a Tuesday and we had the place to ourselves. imagine it's pretty popular on weekends. The site has a shop for basic supplies.
If you have a small rig/van and want more privacy, it's worth driving the short distance down to the lake, past the grassed camp area and setting up there. No facilities (unless you trot back), but decent views.

Liked this place quite a bit. Birding was good and watching Volcan Colima puff away was interesting. Would definitely return.

Report Check-In

Excellent camp spot in the grass. As you drive through the gates, drive about 50 yards and there is a large flat grassy area to park RVs or to set up tent on your right. We paid $5USD for dry camping. It really is a beautiful place.

Report Check-In

Nice and quiet place. Parking on grass. There is electricity, water and sewage for 250p per night. You have to walk about 2km to see the volcan... was not lucky to see en eruption this time.

Report Check-In

Two options for camping, next to the lake (separate entry in iOverlander app) and grassy field closer to the office/tienda and restaurant. We stayed in the grassy field because it was more level, cleaner, and the bathrooms were nicer. The weekends can get a bit loud. They were doing construction near the lake so those facilities may be nicer in the future. We ate at the restaurant and the food was simple and reasonably priced.

Report Check-In

We were the only campers here while we stayed. Decent place, very lush area. Bathrooms available, not sure about showers. Water and electricity appeared to be at each site but we didn't test it to see if they were working. Got very cool and damp at night (didn't rain but everything exposed to the elements was soaked). $250 pesos a night. Volcano close by was active and very cool to see. Also a mile or two up the road past the campground (towards Volcano) was a little sign saying "cafe". We turned in and there was a very rustic hut with a nice Italian espresso machine. They grow, roast and brew their own beans onsite - awesome experience for any coffee lovers out there. Large bag of coffee - $60 pesos ($4.50 US)

Camping right next to the lagoon for 50pesos/Pers. Then're away because of loud music from neighbors. Then we went to Yerba Buena to stay. Would be otherwise beautiful and idyllic, right on the lake with covered tables and benches.
