Description

Soon after the border where you arrange all your papers, there's a checkpoint. We made the mistake of standing in line with all the trucks. You can just drive up to the checkpoint, passing all the trucks. They'll check your papers and then you're good to go. (This was from Peru to Bolivia but looked the same on the other side)

Ashamed to see and have lived the experience that there is only ONE person in customs Peru and ONE person in Bolivia. The peruvian needed 45 minutes per car !!! to be able either to give the entrance or let us out. !!! Really ashamed !! to be at the border 90 minutes due to this !!!

The bolivian officer did not a clue about how many days he should give us, we explained that the same that inmigration, and he said "NO !!....

You can drive directly through, just need to stop where the man with the yellow safety vest stands. He'll check the document of the car and tells you where to go next.
No need to go inside the office.

We came from La Paz. Here they just checked our TIPs for the motorcycles. They send us to the CEBAF checkpoint 3 km away on the peruian side. There is the migracrion an toll point for Bolivia and Peru.

This border crossing is only for vehicles. (Private and buses). The other one in the town center is only for pedestrians.

We crossed here coming from La Paz to Puno. With a moto it was relatively easy to pass the trucks on the Bolivian side to get to the checkpoint. From here you need to go into the Sunat office to show papers and then you do the rest of the immigration process about 2km after the border in Peru at Cenaf. They speak English here and will explain where to go. At Cenaf there was no queue but it took over an hour for us to get documents checked. A little slow but relatively easy.

Just be prepared that it can get a bit stressful to pass the line of trucks, because there is only one lane available and in our case there were trucks coming from the opposite direction on that lane. It seems that the trucks have windows of time where they can pass the checkpoint (first in one direction and then in the other) so be prepared for this. When coming from Peru crossing into Bolivia, there is a parallel dirt road, the entrance is on the right, exactly after the checkpoint, in between the small kiosks. It is just a few hundreds meters, but it will help you avoid the line of trucks on the Bolivia side (the parallel road is on maps.me).
