Maguga Lodge and Camping | Established Campground

I stayed in the lodge, the rondavels were comfortable and clean. Beautiful views, quiet. The price for one person was R 780 including a huge breakfast. Food was good and a decent price.

Although we had a pleasant stay at Maguga with our Big Rig (there were three possible campsites for us) and the dam is a beautiful place to be, we felt the sites weren’t well maintained. There was quite a lot of litter lying around (beer bottles scattered around braai stands, and plenty of plastic in the nearby bushes). We also felt that at R220pppn it was overpriced. The animals (impala mostly) came up close to the campsite and there were a couple of sites with great views, but unfortunately if you have a truck – they are not possible to get to. The ablutions were clean enough and so was the wash-up area. We think this has the potential to be an awesome spot if the necessary attention was given and the price adjusted.

Campsite is not well maintained.
Most braai places are broken or there is even not a Braai place.
There are plugs here and there, but the nice spots at the small peninsula are without.
Not many leveled spots
Bathroom looks fancy but not well looked after.

Since the price did raise, some improvements would have been nice. But unfortunately they didn’t happen.

We made the mistake driving to this place as it was Christmas and everything was crowded. The whole campsite was dirty, rubbish lying around and no one came for cleaning. The campsite is close to the cottages and there were people partying the whole day with very loud music during the day and night. The lodge don’t care a lot about Campers, so please try to avoid this place, not worth the money!

Medicore Campsite with a nice view on the catchment lake.... but that is all and for 160 pppn not enough.... the Ablution is ok and clean, but you can´t lock the toilet-doors, the shower has no door, and at the first day not even a curtain, after we criticized that, they put a curtain at ONE shower ( there are two) ... Wifi is slow and only available at the reception, which is a very steep and stoney way up to the hill (600m) -that is no walk it´s a little hike. It is very noisy because of the road over the dam which is close and it has those little speed-humps, so that you hear a "brrr brrr brrr" every 30 seconds... that is very nerve-racking... The restaurant was very bad, because we ordered one of the main course, which was called Shisa M..(i don´t know the exact name) it should be diverent Meats at Swasiland-Style and spinach with peanuts. The waiter brougt some underdone Chips with some overdone burned meat.... as we asked for the spinach, he says there is no spinach any more... Then they wanted too charge us the full price, so we called the manager and he gave us a discount of 25 SZL... So if you want to eat at this bad restaurant, you should ask before, if everything is available ;-)
Summary : you get a bit for lot of money - we would not check in here anymore.

Nice view on the lake. The WiFi is slowish, but better than in other places. Note: WiFi only available at Reception/Restaurant, not at camp site. You might need 4WD to drive the last 400-500 meters from the reception to the actual campsite. You can do it without, but its steep...
