If no one is there, there is a sign on the outside window with a phone number. We called and the lady sent her son down, we waited 10 minutes.

Make sure to check the details. We are a Toyota Truck with roof tent. First wanted to charge us as a panel van but quickly agreed that we were a camioneta. $15US for two months. Then when we were signing the form, we saw that the dates were only for one month not two. He quickly told us "my mistake" and voided the form and filled us out a new one with proper dates 🤔. Welcome to Peru!

We entered Peru 1 month ago. Based on previous comments, we bought only one month of SOAT (20 USD - 3 months would have been 45 USD), convinced it would be cheaper inland. Our plan was to stay for 3 months in the country. Now we needed to extend, lost a lot of time to find an office that could sell SOAT to us, because of various reasons (only Peruvians, only normal cars, only yearly amounts, ...). We ended up to take a bus (because in the mean time - weekend - the SOAT expired) to another (bigger) city, where we finally found one. But paid 54 USD for 2 months!

10$ for 1 month for a pick-up truck Toyota Tacoma with a camper. We did not told her that we have a camper. At that price I don't think anyone should take the risk to be controlled by the police further south and to pay a bribe. My personal feelings...:-)

Few alarm bells raised by the old lady who sells the SOAT at the border.

First of all she charges $20 for one month. Extortionately high! In the end we bought 3 months for our Minivan in Trujillo for around $15.

Secondly this is the only local shop I've encountered where they sell SOAT to foreign plated vehicles. All the other small shops we went to they told us we need to go to La Positiva main office in a town/city for a foreign vehicle. What makes her so special? Is it even valid insurance?

In the end we didn't buy it here as we didn't have enough dollars leftover from Ecuador and they don't accept card and there are no ATM's. They tried to scare us a little and say there is a police checkpoint down the road that will check insurance but they never checked us for insurance. We drove to Trujillo and bought it the following day. I guess it's a good way to sell overpriced insurance to foreigners at the border.

Dude said it was a Casa Rodante, tried to argue it is a Cargo Van.

Place down the road no longer sells insurance.

special old lady took a while before we got the soat.
paid 12$ for our campervan because we convinced her it just a van. casa rodante would be 34$
I would advice to park your vehicle at the aduana office so she can't take a good look at the vehicle

the old Lady is extremly unfriendly and didn't sell me the SOAT! She's opening the tienda in her sleepingdress and must have had a very bad night! It's behause she didn't unterstand the titel of vehicle and she wanted a "documento castellano". Later a man was in the Shop and i geted the SOAT for 20$ for 4 Month. Ask for the man if the Lady doesn't sell you the SOAT!

DO NOT GO HERE FOR PERU SOAT! HER PRICES ARE TOO HIGH. Go further up to the aduana check point and they will show you the next place (its on ioverlander). It's about half the price here.
