Something not right?

Description

As you cross from Ghana you'll see what appears to be an all singing all dancing border post (even lane markers for different vehicles) However, this may be for the future. For now keep left on the sandy track and go to the more standard shed/huts

Pretty straightforward enough. Although the multi entry visa stamp I got in Accra was not that legible. They were confusing the start date with the end date. I did point it out a few times in French. After a grand counsel of minds they sussed it themselves.

Immigration stamp then done. Then customs who were not interested in stamping my carnet. I tried to get them too with no luck

Road just after the border is tarmac and ok

*Togo - New Visa Rules !!!*

Here is what I would have liked to know, before showing up at the border today:
Togo no longer issues transitvisa at the border. Since 10 days ago.
Apparently there are 2 options:
- Embassy in Accra.
- Online application.
I will take a bus back to Accra tomorrow to see if I can get it at the embassy. It is faster and cheaper than online.
Will update after I get news.

Came here on a Saturday to cross from Ghana to Togo. Wasn‘t busy at all. At first we got an exit stamp from Ghana and afterwards we got the Visa on Arrival for Togo. Paid 25000 CFA for a single entry 15 day visa. But it took really long to organise everything. He said on a Saturday the chiefs aren’t there and he first had to call around to get the right key to open the door to the immigration room and get the stamps for the visa.
After getting that sorted we went to Ghana customs to get the Carnet stamped out and afterwards to Togo customs to get the passavant for 7000 CFA. Everything is in one building and they’ll guide you to the next office.

Ghana -> Togo

At the roundabouts go to structure to the left. Ghana immigration very fast (they guide you through a labyrinth to an inside office), then back to an office by the parking area to stamp the carnet out (instant).

Then Togo immigration office two doors down, some waiting while they process the single entry visa for 25,000 CFA. No photo needed.

This is now a joint border crossing and should be titled Ghana/Togo immigration and customs

Very easy border. It is a joint arrangement with both countries. They do the paperwork together for immigration and vaccination check. Just drive up into the right side (Togo bound) of the site and park up. The officers are very helpful and show you where to go. The Togo visa is 25,000CFA and very simple to get.

As for carnet, the Ghanaian police will stamp you out here (although I had to help as they didn't know what to do). As for the Togo stamp, ignore the officers directions, it isn't at the exit gate. You have to drive out of the first building to the roundabout, head right to a large building with lorries around. Park up just before the covered section and heading along to where there are some steps up to an office. Here they can stamp you in, although again they need some help with what to do.

Once done you can head back to the roundabout and then through the rope barrier.

Overall, a very relaxed and friendly border crossing, just a little confusing regarding the carnet.

Watch out as their were some friendly police officers at a road block a couple of miles away trying their luck for some money. We played confused and they let us go quickly enough.

Togo does actually stamp your Carnet here. So here’s how it is. There’s building one where you do all the passport paper work for both countries, plus he stamping of Carnet for Ghana, then there’s building two that you only stamp the Carnet for Togo. Ask the officials and they can direct you to the right place.
