This is a 100 years old botanical garden that was founded by william poponoe. He imported thousands of species of trees and plants from 4 continents for research purposes. It is the second biggest tropical botanical garden in the world with 1600 hectares. When you get to the botanical garden you will first past the ticketing station, you then have a 3km road to the visitors center. It is now mandatory that you have a guide for the tour at the cost of 150lps. This guide will take you into the garden and give you some explanations on some of the different species you come across. If you are lucky you can also taste some of the fruits that grow there, like the mangostines, carambolas, lovi lovi and see armadillos . and all sorts. The tour takes about 1 hour, at the end of the tour there is a small house where some ladies sell products from the fruits in the garden such as wine and jellies. The money they make goes to help some women in need in the community. If you would like there is also longer tours. One of them is five hours and starts at 7am for 500lps, the other option is a full day tour from 7am to 5pm and takes you on a hike in some virgin forest in the mountains. The cost for the longer tour is 1200lps. On these tours you will have the opportunity to see fruit trees from all over the world and some cristal clear streams. You need to book the longer tours in advance with Jonathan the guide ( +50494601443). If you would like the spend the night there, there is small cabanas with basic amenities for the cost of 800lps (with ac). You can also park your camper near the vistors center and have access to the washrooms. I would highly recommend to anyone who comes by Tela to stop here. This garden is a forgotten Gem.

We did not sleep here but we enjoyed our visit to the garden. We paid L100 for a tour guide (Spanish) and it was the best thing we could've done. Recommended.

We stayed here one night. We payed 200 lempiras for a rig with two people and 460 lempiras for the cheapest room for the other two people. Seems like the prices have doubled the last couple of years. The cabins with AC are 700 lempiras.

There is no cellular service in the park.

It was quiet since it was a Monday, but probably more busy during the weekend with local visitors. Nobody but workers and residents in the park. The cafeteria didn’t serve food as it didn’t have any and just sold snacks and water. It closes at 5 pm too. Would advise to bring everything you need to eat yourselves. You can also camp in your tents for 100 lempiras per person, but the guards kept warning us about the snakes that come out at night.

We felt safe, but were greeted with “no hay muertos aquí” when we asked at the gate if it was safe to camp. When we asked if we could swim in the river at 5pm the security guard told us we should do it earlier next morning as it might be people there after dark. The security guard had us move the car to a safer place closer to the hotel, but at the same time assuring us it was just a suggestion and that it was safe anyway. Not sure what to make of it. The security guard was in the area all night and there’s a military camp close too, so we felt pretty safe though there is a lot of traffic passing through the park and a small town and community in the middle of the park.

The botanical garden itself is OK, a lot of different trees and plants. Not very well kept unfortunately, but nice for a stroll and probably better with a guide. Lots of birds to watch.

This was fine for a night if you need a place to stop, but I wouldn't put it on your need to stop spots. We arrived at 6pm and the place is Closed but the gard let us in. Took our information and asked us to pay when we left in the morning which we did. When we arrived on a Saturday the restaurant said open but the place was dark except a few drunk guys watching a game on the t.v., and they said they were open but had no cook. Bummer, we planned to eat there that night. No clean open toilet :( I asked the guys in the restaurant and they told me the only one was the one that was flooded with water and looked like three people striped naked and forgot their clothes. There was garbage everywhere from the dogs getting in the trash. Next morning we went looking for walking trails. We found one that went around a bit, but it was nothing special. We did just need a place to stop, and I'm greatful they let us in.

They charged 8 USD per rig for entrance and free overnight. Good educational exhibit at second floor of visitor center. Don't miss Arboretum Trail with Huge variety of tropical trees from all over the world ( bring repellent if it's rain season) before hiking back walk 10 mn to the river pool for swimming.
Little restaurant dishes from 80 lempiras to 120 lempiras.

beautiful place in the jungle, good birdwatching! parked behind the visitor center on grass in the shade (probably not possible after rain) and a bit away from the road, where some locals go back and forth on motorbikes.
prices seem a bit strange, they talked a bit and finally we paid 230L for 2 persons per night including the entrance. still cheap as normally only the entrance would be 8$ US p person.
electricity and water tap at the visitor center.

Beautiful botanical garden. Great place for bird watching. We payed 176 lempira for 2 people. Parked next to the visitor center and were able to use power from there with an extension cord at night. No toilet seat in bathrooms, no showers but a river nearby. There is a small restaurant next to the visitor center.
