Description

Here you can stay for free in a little house at the side of the street. There is a fire place inside, you can sit, dry out and can put your tent for the night. There is also a toilet. Nice, clean and quiet. You can buy bread and eggs at the houses behind. Nice, friendly guy offered us fresh eggs for 250 Pesos one :-) Great place!!!

Jorge the owner comes by and is very friendly and funny and has a guest book for visitors to sign. Great place to stop if the rain is coming!

Don't forget to leave some firewood next to the fireplace for the people after you!

Lovely little Refugio, same design as the one 15km or so north but with a better floor. Enjoyed having a fire to warm our toes and dry out our clothes. It’s comfortable for two, you could fit a few more in, if you went without a bug net, in a pinch. River about 20m away.

No Jorge appeared - left to our own devices. Thanks to all who have kept it neat and tidy!

Pase un hermoso año nuevo en esa casa, con fuego y durmiendo muy bien.
Creo no haber visto un lugar mejor que ese todo el trayecto, importante es dejar limpio, llevarte tu basura y dejar leña para los próximos visitantes

Small cabin at the roadside. We put our tent outside (3p tunnel tent) but a smaller tent would fit inside the cabin. Firewood was available, we collected some for the next travellers. Toilet available as wel in a small hut next to the cabin.

Unfortunately, as a woman on my own I also found Jorge a little bit creepy. He came and lit a fire when I arrived - and was very persistent that I stayed the night, and was quite leery - didn’t feel very comfortable or safe so I left after a short stop... Wouldn’t recommend to women on their own!

We stopped here to check on the shelter, it was nice. You can park on the side of the road. Built originally for the people living around and waiting for transportation, but travelers are welcome. Jorge still lives in the ranch next door, a little bit weird at first, but considering he is someone that lives alone with not too much contact with other people he is anxious to be friendly and some people might find that scary.

Un refugio de lujo. nos calentamos con fuego y estuvimos muy cómodos!!!

Perfect pit stop! We started a fire at lunch time to dry our clothes after another rainy day. Nice and clean. With some woods available.

Place is just perfect! Bare in mind though that the owner and the one who built this for us is señor Vera (house at the back on the right) and not Jorge. Jorge is a somehow - caretaker and is a liar, and potentially dangerous - utterly to be avoided if you are a solo - woman!!! Fortunately he will be gone by November 2018 so by the time the next cyclists pass by you will not meet him. Family Vera is very nice though! They are there in summer but only on weekends when school starts. Doña Juana asked me to put her phone number here for any case: +56984238904. Enjoy and leave it as clean as you found it.

No bar, no pool, no tv, no wifi, worst place ever! Don't go here!!!!! Sorry, just kidding.

Great spot for cyclists to sleep or just take a short break!!

Don't forget to sign the guestbook and leave some firewood next to the fireplace so the people after you have dry wood to start a fire, too! (-:

So incredibly cool that Jorge just offers a place like this for free to anyone passing! Pay it forward!

A true paradise for rainy days and nights!!
Sheltered from rain and wind you can make yourselves at home in this wonderful little hut. Light a fire, dry the wet clothes above it, set up the tent inside or just put the mattress on the floor.

Great place to shelter. Loads wood and river nearby.

Best to ask owner first. They also sell bread, eggs and sometimes dinners. Depends if owner is there or just caretaker.
