Description

Right before the water taxi terminals (Bocas del Toro, 6$/25min) is a parking lot run by a local family. There are two areas, one is on their front yard which is fenced in and the other is a lot across the street which is not. Larger rigs have to stay across the street. They charge $3 a day to park and it is no extra charge to camp. They have two mean looking Dobermans that patrol the fenced yard at night. The first gate has a low overhead. Look for the second gate, Southwest down the road 40 feet. Make sure they write down the overall quoted price when you get the ticket, or they may try to overcharge when leaving.

Good place to park for the visit of Bocas. Because of our size we used the place at the main street behind the normal parking. It felt secure. But nothing to sleep. For us too loud. We looked for a place 10 Min. away in a gravel pit. Quiet. As we don’t know how the place developed, it could be it is just transitional, we didn’t put in here. But there are better options as this place for stay overnight.

We paid 10 $ per night for our 7,20 m Motorhome and slept one night outside from the fence, because we are too high for the gated area (3,40 m high).

Spent a quite night here. Arrived at 6pm left at 8 am and paid 3 usd. Nice owner. Good option in Almirante since the town is not really safe, and the firefighters didn’t let us camp with them or in the surroundings, even though we had done that 4 years ago, but they don’t let overlanders stay anymore.

Left our big ford transit camper here for 3 days and booked a hotel on the island. Came back late to the mainland and slept in the lot on the 4th night. Unlike the other comments, there is a gated lot across the street that can fit rigs like our and bigger. Maybe even upwards of 30 feet long no height restriction. Perfectly safe place to leave your rig! Paid 5$ per day since we were considered big. Usual price still 3$.

We left our car for 3 days at Leiza's place. It's still 3$ per day. Owners were really friendly.
According to our guest house owner on Bastimento this is a very secure place. She has never heard of a break in at Leiza's.

They took good care of the car, but I suggest you make sure they write the quoted TOTAL price and TIME of arrival on your receipt before you get the boat. The owner (who wasn't there when we arrived) tried to add an extra day onto our price when leaving. It wasn't until we made enough of a fuss that his wife came over that he eventually dropped it.

Still open. Very nice lady. When we asked, she gave us water for our bathroom and for us to shower. Paid 3$ per night. The embarcadero for the lanchas is 50 feet away, but the one for the car ferry is on another street. (We took a private day tour from 8h to 17h30 to the islands - dolphins bay, snorkel, beach and Bocas town - and it was great; maybe better than staying in the rv on Bocas since it´s not a very pretty town, unless you take a vacation of the rv for a pretty cottage on the water!)

We stayed one night and left the rig here for a second night. Lot was reasonably quiet for the overnight. We paid $3/day. Attendant, Leiza, was super nice and she watched the parking lot closely. No amenities, so it's best for camping in a self contained small rig.

Cheapest option for visiting Bocas islands. Taxis run from 6-6. FYI they charged us $5/day to park because we are so large.
