Egypt
Relatively clean hotel with restaurant on the Nile waterfront, run by the army. Not very cheap (35 USD plus 10 USD because you're foreigner), for a 2 bed room. But safe and behind guarded gate. It's the officers club next to the army base. Booking through booking.com and payment by visa

An absolute rip off of a place. If you can avoid it, don't stay in Asyut: everywhere is stupid expensive and they take advantage of it being between Cairo and Luxor to overcharge. We didn't have marriage papers with us do they obliged us to take 2 rooms. We ended up paying $88 between the two of us for one night and this was a heavily discounted price after much bargaining. The food is terrible but at least it's cheap. The soldiers themselves are nice and a few speak good English: mostly they also hate being there! Avoid Asyut at all costs!
Report Check-InHotel is ok, nice location at the Nile. We had problems because we aren’t married, so we had to take two room. There was a guy Oscar speaking perfectly English and German, managed everything for us. Double room for 850 LE breakfast included, parking for big trucks difficult, but manageable, no extra charge
