Very bad road with no Border custom or inmigration nigerian office at the end.

The first 120km coming from Calabar are very nice tar road. It gets worse after that. Always a few kms of tar and then some very bad stretches of mud in-between. I made it in the rainy season after a few days of heavy rain on a seriously loaded Transalp, so I would say it's definitely doable for the average overlander. It's challenging, but worth it. Great scenery! In case you get stuck, there are local bikers passing every now and then who are happy to help. There was even an old Landrover paddling through the mud. If you start early enough, you can do Calabar-Bamenda in one day via this route. There IS immigration and customs on the Nigerian side and a immigration officer at the Cameroonian
PS The picture is from one of the worst stretches, won't get worse than this
We passed here with our LandRover Defender from Calabar to the Cameroon border. The second half of the road is quite bad and it was wet from the rains, but we made it without getting stuck (some locals encouraging us to continue at dusk). We had left from Calabar only in the afternoon and stayed overnight in one of the last villages on Nigerian soil, where we were invited by the very friendly locals. They complained that this road is not maintained at all, although there are a lot of villages. Very beautiful rainforest at sunset!
