they asked indeed for the 50.000 per car and showed a worthless price list what even didn't look official. They played the game with us that we are rich and have the money and don't need to complain. we played that we are poor (look are cloths) and that our car is not a driving ATM with money for corrupt people like them. playing that game give a little drama to the people that want to rib you of (don't be afraid for that) after an hour the chef came. we explained that the price is a rip off and that our government knows about the things what they do here with tourists. that saying made a little bit of pressure. the chef made a call and the price went down to 25.000 per car. we continued the game that we still don't have so much money and at the end of the game we had to pay 12.500 per car. when we paid everybody was happy and we had to shake a lot of hands. it to took 2 hours.
the receipt was accepted in matimba without a problem.
don't try to drive around because they all work together. and a little advice, when you talk with them don't come to close to the line that close the road. It's there precious!

initially requested $50usd. we all laughed. I gave them the 25k car equivalent in kwanza and they issued me the receipt. immigration officer was also there and checked my visa

It's not possible anymore to use the road of the company nearby. We parked the car in the middle of the road in front of the gate. Then I went to the payement office to pay. The dragons there said it was 50.000 cfa. So I said we already payed the roadtax earlier (which wasn't true) when we crossed the border. We had to show the receipt to prove it. In the meantime my husband stayed in the car in front of the gate and the guy who was in charge of opening and closing the gate asked him if he played already. So my husband said yes, yes, yes off course (which wasn't true) and the guy opened the gate! So thank you very much and my husband drove through the gate. Al the dragons at the payment office saw it and said 'ooooooh'. I walked back to our car to look for the receipt we didn't have, I jumped in the car and we drove away. Nobody stopped us so we skipped payment number 2 😂

Report Check-In

You DO NOT have to pay here if you already paid in Iema or Matadi.

We tried to cross on Saturday but it was not possible. They know that all overlanders want to cross to avoid the tax so they don’t want to collaborate no more. We tried to speak with the boss (a Chinese guy) but it was impossible. The guardians offered us marihuana :S

Report Check-In

We tried the way around but it was a working day and 3 PM: they were discussing with the 6 of them and said it was not possible because it was a company. We guess it was because there were too many people still working.
They said we could take 1 of them with us to the checkpoint to negotiate.

At the checkpoint they asked CF 50 000,- because we have a foreign license plate. After 20 minutes of anger and discussion, and a pack of Turkish delight candy that the whole village ate from we got the usual CF 25 000,-

There is a Way to sneak behind that Road Tax Block! See Maps.Me: Just 400 Meters before the Tax (coming from the north, just before you turn around the Corner) there is a Dirt Track on the right hand Side. It leads through a Company Compound and just hits the Street some 200 Meters after the Checkpoint again. The Exit is a Bridge. There are Security Guys both at the Entrance and the Exit of this Track (the Company Compound). We told both Securities about our Problem (French) and bribed them with some Food and 1 Dollar each and they let us pass. Luckily for us it was Saturday Afternoon and there were almost no Workers any more. But maybe it's possible on working days too. It should work out the other Direction too (then you cross the Bridge first and enter the Company Compound). We could see the Tax Block in some Distance when we were sneaking behind them, that was great Fun! :)

We arrived here about 2.45pm. We went around near Iema after a discussion over there about the road tax. In Iema they were asking 50.000 francs per vehicle. Since we did not pay there and went around someone called the office in Boma. They were not happy and we had to pay 50.000 here. After a long discussion with the responsible guy he called the chief who came over. We agreed for 75.000 for 2 international cars, A Toyota LC and a Land Rover. We left at 4.30pm. They couldn't give us a guarantee that we did not have to pay elsewhere. We advise to pass Iema immediately, without going to try at the Iema checkpoint! It was very difficult and exhausting! The guys where friendly though, but it is insane that foreigners have to pay that much!!! Now time for a beer

Report Check-In

Tax is 25,000 F for foreign cars. They have it on a price list. Only 2,500 for local cars. Only valid up to Matadi. No getting around it.
