Latest Check-Ins

We arrived here on a Wednesday around 12AM/noon. The customs guys check papers and cars here. Around 4PM they drive your car to the ferry, so you have to leave your car and key. Make sure to clear your car from valuables/ take them with you or make sure they’re locked.

Most people left their car directly, but we wanted to stay at our car as long as possible so we just waited and made some lunch. When they started driving the cars to the ferry we went to the passenger terminal, where the boarding started around 7PM. (You receive your boarding pass here (in our case a guy brought us the boarding passes, not sure where you can normally pick them up))

Report Check-In

Dutch citizens without a Carnet de Passage.

Exiting Sudan:
The same Midhat Mahir(+249 9122 53484, available on Whatssap, we highly recommend him) in Khartoum that helped us getting a Carnet de Passage for Sudan, helped us with arranging a fixer(Oemar) in Sawakin to border the ferry.

Midhat forwarded our passport copies and carnet copy to our fixer Oemar and gave us his number. In the 2 days we drove up from Khartoum to Sawakin, Oemar already arranged our ferry tickets.

When arriving in Sawakins port we called Oemar and he arrived within 10 minutes to help us. He needed our passports and carnet, explained a little bit and was on his way very quick and fast. After 3 hours we could drive up to the ferry and handed over the Sudanese carnet to Oemar so he would send it back to Midhat.

You have to leave the car key in the car for the drivers to drive the car in and out of the ferry(nothing was stolen).

The ferrytickets for 2 people incl. the car and Oemar's services costed us SP.4600,-

We were happy with the service of both Midhat and Oemar. We advice to book a fixer via Midhat, as you'll know for sure you will not be disappointed and arrange a fixed price.

Entering Saudi:
We arrived around 10AM and left the ferry 11AM to go through immigration very easily. No need to fill out a form.

After that the waiting for customs began; after 2 hours there were 2 men that handed over port clearance papers(SR. 270,- but you can pay in USD and can also exchange USD with them if no other option) with which you'd be able to arrange a TIP(free) and insurance(min. a week for SR.140,-). After arranging all the paperwork we had to wait another 3.5 hours for the cars to finally be cleared. From that moment on it goes very fast; they drive up your car and you can check real quick before you get in and drive off.
