Very quick, came end of day at 15:00 - visa was extended 15:20.

Much less hassle extending it here in UB than in Ölgii where the wait time is 3 days. Also less complicated than doing online, and guaranteed it will work as they put a new physical stamp in your passport.

Visa extension for 14 days cost me 79,200MNT. You can extended any number of days from 1-30. Price list photo added.

This was the easiest visa extension of our entire trip. We (2x Dutch passport) arrived on a Friday at 15.00h. The waiting room was almost empty and we got the extension forms right away.

Fill in your info, give a reason, the amount of days and add a passport photograph (you have to bring yourself). Give back the form, pay the money (now 168800 for one month) and you get the new stamp. It adds the days on top of your old visa expiry date. Payment can be done with creditcard. The whole thing was finished in less then 20 minutes. Opening hours are (according to Google
Maps) Monday to Friday from 8.00 till 16.30 hours.

You can make a visa extension in this mongolian immigration center. you can ask until 1 month more.
Until 7 days more, the price is 40 000 MNT
After 7 days more, the prices change for each period more.
For 1 month, it is 168 400 MNT.

When you enter in the building, go on the right side and to the second desk.
You have to fill up the apply form (NB: they ask for mongolian phone number too) and to explain with a handwritting letter why you want to stay more in Mongolia. Only few lines are enough. They don't really care about it!
You also need to join a photo.
At the beginning, they ask us a mongolian adress. If you are travelling with van like us, you don't have a mongolian adress. But finally, if you write your car number and your next stop on the apply form, it is ok.

And that all ! They put a stamp with the new date in your passport.

It is NOT possible any more to extend your visa on arrival (30 days stamp).
We did as the previous comment suggested and asked when entering the country for more than 30 days but both of us (one as a foot passenger, one with a car) were denied and we both got only 30 days at the border, what is normal to me who crossed into the country so many times...
It might be still possible to extend a 30day „real visa“, but definitely no visa on arrival any more.
We have German passport and went to immigration with a mongolian friend to translate and clarify things.
It used to be possible (it’s my 9th stay in Mongolia), but they changed the law.
Overstaying is possible (pay fine at the border when exiting), but at immigration they couldn’t tell us if overstaying leads to possible problems when applying for the next mongolian visa or turning up at the border for visa on arrival. You might be listed, maybe not, they say... So if one day in future you want to come back to this beautiful country, you better don’t overstay.
Bad news...

information for visa free citizens (we are germans)
this is what the officer told us: it is not possible your extend you stay if you enter the country visa free. he said we should say on the border, by entering the country, that you want to stay longer than 30 days.

Report Check-In

We registered and extended our permit to stay for 29 more days here. As german citizens we had 30days visa free. We had the wrong information that we have to register within the first seven days, but this was not a question at all. We already stayed 20 days and could extend without a problem. Quick procedure, we paid 102600 MNT each, plus 1000 MNT administration fee. AND it‘s not necessary to come again to the office before leaving the country!!!
