Something not right?

Description

We were in transit when a van hit its right rear tire on the front left tire of our car. Around the corner a boy crossed the street like a pedestrian and told us that the tire looked like a mess. We followed a little more and 100m later another guy said something similar. It seemed like coincidence so I decided to stop to see what was happening. That guy came up and said that the wheel was off the steering wheel and that it should not go on without checking it. He also said that he was a mechanic and then put his hand behind the wheel and pulled out a rubber band and fastener that protects the steering terminal, both shattered. I was worried, although a little suspicious, I accompanied him to the next corner where another supposedly mechanical type appeared and then another who claimed to be the owner of the spare parts store next door. Then they reported a very expensive budget, I told them I did not want to do it at that time, so I was pressed all three, it was dangerous to keep the car. Having seen a Goodyear representative nearby, he was determined to take the car there. The boys realized that they would not perform the service, so they wanted to collect the "labor", they demanded 50 soles ... well, to summarize, it was all a simulation and the three were involved with that real theater. Goodyear confirmed that nothing was wrong. We were told that in that part there are some groups that come together to do that sort of thing, so stay tuned. P.S. If anyone wants or can translate into English, I appreciate it very much, so we will reach more informed Overlanders.

No one there today, the town didnt look to nice with a lot of trash, but people on the street were friendly. Felt safe.

Report Check-In

Nobody and nothing happend today. The neiborhood looks calm.

Report Check-In

No one around as we drove by yesterday - looked but could not see them

Report Check-In

I was all prepared with some good swear words to yell at these scumbags, but alas, no one bothered us today. Probably one of the grossest towns I’ve seen.

Report Check-In

Confirmed. They keep on there. Don't stop!

Report Check-In

This scam is still continuing! As we entered the city from the north to go to Pimintal (recommended) we had no fewer than 6 different people try to flag us down. We didn't stop, and neither should you.

Report Check-In

We had five of these subhumans trying to tell us our llantas or pneumaticos had something. Even one from a colectivo shouting at us. Of course everything is OK. Just give them the middle finger and they stop. What a dirthole this town. maybe driving around is the best.

Report Check-In

We had an experience as well in this town. A lot of guy and taxi screem at us about a problem on the van, all the same stuff about « las llanteras ». We didn’t stop because of what we read on iOverlander. We stop outside of the city to check the van, in case, and nothing were wrong. So don’t stop your car is fine !

Report Check-In

no sign of such activity for us today though thus town didn’t seem very inviting.

Report Check-In

Yes. Similar thing was attempted with us. More or less in the center of town around the mercado modelo. We didn't stop, because we had read this earlier. No problems with our tires...
In all Chiclayo didn't feel safe. I suggest doing bank and food and gas in the town just a few miles north.

Report Check-In
