Description

Mostly the toll is only payable on the east-bound route (ie towards Suriname) but BIG RIGS NOTE for large vehicles only, there is a payload toll on the west-bound route too. We're not entirely sure how it was calculated, but it involves the police officers checking the weights stated on your vehicle registration document and taking a weight reading on a weigh-bridge. We weigh 5.9T and were charged a tiny GYD120 (apparently for a unit of 1T). As we had just arrived from Suriname we had no money. Luckily the girl smiled and let us go this time for such a small amount, but for very big rigs the fee is likely to be a bit higher. May need some local money here.

We approached from Guyana and were waved onto the scale. There we weighed in 5,500kg. I stated that we were tourists and non-commercial. She asked if it was a motor-home, and I said yes. She made a few calls and said we would pay only the toll, not an extra fee. We were charged as “medium-truck” according to receipt and info board. The total was $6,840.00.
