Nice place for a night. Road to here is very rocky.

Report Check-In

The coordinates of this point is wrong. The real position of the "upper" camp is further south (now a new point).

Great place with beautiful scenery!
Very windy and very warm during the day. Hike in the Crater and to the ruins of the observatory is worth it.
Fast internet with MTC. 4x4 is definitely necessary for the upper campsite.

The crater is nice for a little hiking, the former campsites are okay to stay at. View is nice but due to the stony ground and the bad wind I wouldn’t stay here for more than a night or two. Also the way to the upper campsite is definitely 4x4 only.

What an extraordinary way to camp! Wildcamping on a campsite! The place is still abandoned but indeed quite clean. I stayed at the upper campsite which is *really* only accessible for a 4x4!
Anyone claiming that the trip to the crater is 'easy' either has found a completely different path or is an experienced mountaineer! Because in my book this path is FAR from easy. The first km is fine but then the rockclimbing starts. Admittedly it's also far from impossible but to call it easy is IMHO simply wrong. By the way, watch out when heading back because it is very easy to get lost on the rocky mountainside! The walk to the crater is nevertheless worthwhile, though the abandoned observatory at the end of the path is not.
At night there were absolutely no lights anywhere except for the stars and the moon. The wind was blowing hard and was really cold. But all in all the best wildcamp in Namibia for me!
I spent 2 nights here. The strange thing was that someone apparently closed the gate after my arrival because I left it open and it was manually closed when I got out. Since the nearest village is 15 km away I found it to be quite spooky.

What a beau-ti-full place is this. The views are amazing.
Place is now clean, but still ruins of the houses. It gives the place some history........
One hour walk to the crater. Easy trip.
When you visit the crater, say hello to the Baboons from us.
Without a 4x4 you can camp in the lower part. From there half a hour on steep path to starting point track the crater.
If you have a simcard with data? You won't believe it but there is internet access........slow!

Report Check-In

Nice place to stay few days and to meet other travellers. Not so dirty.

Report Check-In

Both the upper camp and the lower camp are abandoned and neglected. Walls are half broken down, hoses are lying around and garbage is spread out. The view over the crater rim is beautiful. If it wouldn't have been such a mess it would have be a nice wild camp. The upper camp is a rough 4x4 only drive.
