Something not right?

Description

You can camp on a concreted area overlooking the lake. Just talk to the friendly soldiers and give them a copy of your passport. Note that the lake is known to be the deadliest one in the world due to an incident of a bubble of CO² erupting from it and killing around 1700 people in 1986. Nowadays the pressure is being released regularly but researchers and the military are still stationed here.

Safe place to camp. Workers/scientists living up here are talkative, somewhat annoyingly so, but friendly. A civil engineer (they are building some kind of a dam) gave me 2 papayas as a present when I left. The caretaker/guard was drunk and a little annoying.

The road between Lake Nyos and Wum is in extremely bad condition and needs proper 4WD (I did 3 hours over a 30km stretch, almost all the time in 1st gear low range). All the rest of the ring road can be done in a 2WD vehicle. Around 10 check points on the ring road, all of them serious (not like the big joke Nigeria). Had to take everything out of the car 4-5 times.

I never felt insecure but 7 Swiss and some Italians were kidnapped in the region (and soon released) the day I was there. Also, there were rumors that some police officers had been killed by Anglophone rebels just a few km away. Despite the security threats, the ring road is definitely worth the detour (and the 100$ fuel you will burn). For me, a highlight on this trip so far.

Nice place overlooking Lake Nylos...although you can't swim, this place and its history just makes it special. The view of the lake and the hills is fantastic! There are some locals around (workers building/ renewing the wall of the lake), but all friendly and after some small talk they leave you alone.
They seemed used to tourists here :)

Nice Place. There are Workers living in some Barracks up here. They are very friendly and left us alone after some Small Talk. Beautiful Views on the Lake and surrounding Hills.

Nice enough spot to camp. no army. one guy came and met me but no problems and no cost. the lake itself isn't very pretty as it's a dirty brown (see Google satelite). the itchiness mosquitoes ever live here.
