Orion Tabora Hotel | Informal Campsite

Our campsite for the night. We struggled to find the official entrance to this hotel. Used back gate (doen’t look inviting at all). Just had a shower in the bathroom on loan. Not bad. Safe and secure we’ll be happy to stay here. Will dine in the restaurant. Reviews seem good enough.

Price for camping is on their pricelist for accommodation: 25.000 pp/pn. Breakfast is included with a wide variety of choices! Curry for dinner was fine, large portion. Room for toilet and shower was clean. Fast WiFi at reception and restaurant.

We chose not to wild camp, so on long driving fay's we sometimes have to have a stopover place. That's what this place is.....no more, no less. We camped in the back car park had use of a shabby toilet and a shower room with only a tap and no shower head but enough that you could fill a bucket of warm water and have a wash. It was dirty when we arrived but they cleaned it for us when I said that the price was too high......but there was no negotiation on price 25000 tsh pppn. On the plus side we were welcomed and it was safe.

Second time we are staying at the Orion.

During our first visit in 2016, we camped adjacent to the rooms at the back. For this visit, we have decided to take one of the budget rooms.

They have rooms for;

Tshs.80,000 (about $35)
Tshs.70,000
Tshs.60,000

The parking is safe. You can choose between the front packing and the back. We chose the back because it was near our room and needed convenience to access our things.

Food: The Menu uis quite extensive, including local and vegetarian. Quite a bit to choose from.

We would recommend this place to anyone visiting Tabora.

Room was clean and shower hot (if you tell them to switch on the geyser).
We ordered the food in advance and it was ready on time. Food tasted good.

Pleasant stop-over. We stayed in one of the budget rooms (50K TSH) as we would’ve otherwise camped in our rooftop tent (but would’ve had to do that in their parking lot for the same price). We had a room with mozzie nets, adjoining shower and toilet. The shower had cold water only (even though we’d asked about hot water but the weather was fairly warm so we didn’t mind too much). We had some drinks in the bar and had dinner which wasn’t anything special; curry @ ~20k TSH each.

50000 for camping for two people. Breakfast included. Big rig no problem. We liked it. Old bathroom, but clean! Nice garden with animals like turtles... Restaurant okay. Heard it was still one of best in town.

You can camp here for 25000. Otherwise, a budget single room is 70000 and a standard double is 80000. Nice hotel and safe. Breakfast included in price - though not sure if that applies for campers.

Beautiful old colonial hotel. They offered us a parking space at the back of the hotel in a service parking area, and a spotless clean toilet and hot shower to use very near to the parking. Expensive at Tsh25 000 pppn, but we were safe.
