Malawi
Nice and secure campsite by the lake and you can choose if you will camp on grass or sand. Nice toilet and shower block, and a place to do dishes and laundry. Power and water. There is a bar on the beach and on weekends they sell some food as well. The campsite is next to Sunbird Livingstonia Beach Hotel and you can eat in their restaurant. The hotel also has Skyband (you have to buy MB) WIFI. On weekends it fills up with local day visitors, but even then it was still pretty relaxed and people just enjoyed themselves. One overland truck.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Very nice campsite on the beach full of local people for the week end but eventhough very relax atmosphère. Supervisor is really nice and will make you feel at home. Fishermen come on the beach in the evening during week end to sell butter fish. 20000k for 2 people par day. Ablution block is dated but very clean.
Report Check-InStayed one night but left for Cool Runnings camp nearby. We did not like the site as we felt like staying on a football ground: uninspiring despite the good location at the beach. Security guard was present all night and we felt safe. We told the manager Michael that abulution is neglected (doors not closing, toilet coverings lying around) and seems not to have been cleaned for long - he said that he would take care of the deficits. Paid K 15,000 for two adults incl. vehicle.
Report Check-InLovely campground. But weekends probably heave. Hot showers. Grass or sand base. MWK15000 for one night. Recommended
Report Check-InCool spot. We arrived on Friday arvo and a bus full of locals having a great time on beach. They left before sunset and was very quiet after that. Michael was very nice and helpful. Bar and restaurant only open Saturday (possibly Sunday). However only a couple minute walk away you can use the restaurant and bar of hotel. Have to pay for wifi at hotel and no wifi at camp sites
Report Check-InCamp on grass under trees or on sand on the beach 10m from the waters edge - wow magic.
Clean ablutions with hot water and flush toilets. Beach bar open over weekends. Locals frequent the place with lots of laughter, music & games. At sunset they all leave and you have the beach for yourself.
Very safe and secure with 24/7 G4S security.
Michael, Camp Manager(cell: +256 999 27 90 07) will leave no stone unturned to make you feel at home whatever you need. He arranged all we need for our 2 night stay.
Ludolf, Local guide(+256 996 93 50 33) arranged a snorkeling boat trip and a spectacular Fish Eagle display. Well worth a visit.
MK10,000 pppn.
Report Check-InTried to check in- sent from the gate to the hotel reception, waited while they felt with hotel guests out of turn. Reception appeared not to know how to deal with campers. Had to leave when it was getting dark so did not stay. The ablutions are quite run down ( March 2023) broken ( vandalised ) sinks and toilets. Dirty. No outer doors ( privacy) Did not see electric hook ups. Setting is potentially Gorgeous but… left to seed. $10 pppn?
Report Check-InWe took a look at the place, but did not find it inviting at all, it was very busy with day visitors and noisy with a music festival with large loudspeakers, did not promise a quiet night.
They also have mounted tents in an area slightly separated from the visitors' parking, but not really.
Camping in your own vehicle or tent costs 10000 MKW ppn.
very good place for overnight.
on the beach.
you can chose on the sand or on grassy.
rate : day visitor 5000 mwk/pp if no camping
camping 10000 mwk/pppn
We checked in on Sunday after leaving cool runnings because the camp facilities are in the back yard with no view of the lake. This might not have been the best choice as we were part of a party with loads of locals and loud music. Party stopped at 7:30 and we had the place to ourselves. Woke up to one of the most beautiful sunrises over the lake.
despite all the locals, rest rooms are clean and showers are good.
Locals litter on the beach unfortuneately
Report Check-InSeveral people mentioned that Cool Runnings is a better place to go to, which is true, but it is occupied by the British army at the moment (until mid July, please check afterwards). The people of Steps warned us that there is a big loud party every weekend by the locals, so they referred us to the wheelhouse camping, which it is much more quiet.
Report Check-InWent there because of size of our mobile. Place not nice at all. If you want to go to hotel for dinner, you have to pay a fee. Pay money to spend money. No! Went to cool runnings, much better place.
Report Check-InStopped over to inspect campsite. Lot of rubbish on beach. The ablutions not good. Very expensive MWK 7000 pppn. Price should be a third of this.
No thank you went over to Cool Running's this is a nice spot.
Most is said by the other visitors. Ablutions are in no good shape. Price was 7.000 Kwacha pppn. In the evening they burn the rubbish close to the ablutions so there is a nasty unhealthy smell.
Report Check-InLarge sandy beach for camping. Some grass spots also available. We arrived on a Sunday and it was packed with day visitors from Lilongwe. When they left, lots of garbage left on the beach and bathrooms a bit of a shambles. Woke up to find there are also baboons, though plenty of security to keep them away from your camp. Also had a bit of a smell, not sure if from the ablution or the gearbage from the busy weekend. Not on our list of favorite camps.
Report Check-InNice large site, could be cleaner. WiFi is airtel and it’s 1200 kwacha for unlimited use. To use pool at hotel 2000 kwacha. There was no power in campsite when I visited
Report Check-Inweekdays a nice and Clean campsite with hot showers and Clean abolution Block. At the Weekend Beachparty. 7500 Kwatcha ppn. With privat beach.
Report Check-InBeautiful facilities but poorly managed. Bottle caps and broken glass in the campsites, endless staff ( security, workers, etc) roaming past our tent and gawking, no hot water in showers. Rates now Kw 7000 pppn - "peak season" but we were the only ones. Pity.
Report Check-InTwo parts to this campsite, the "old" and the "new". We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night. New campsite is flat with ample shade, has beach bar and at weekends a small food hut for burgers etc. Also Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays there is loud music from bar - from 2pm to 10pm. Lots of day users on new camp - 100+ people so ablutions overloaded. Few water taps and electricity hook ups. Showers hot on Saturday morning but reported cold later Saturday morning (day trippers??) Nice vibe in bar - lots of families BBQing. A few beach sellers but no hassle. Baboons a nuisance. Beach cleaning ok but done in preference to emptying bins thus baboons problem. After first night realised Saturday was going to be very busy we moved to "old" camp nearer to lodge/hotel which was further from music but also no people wandering around from bar/burger hut. Old camp also flat with shade. One electrical hook up and one tap, 2 toilets and 2 showers behind bamboo screens - not long-drop. Lodge facilities can be used but bar in lodge much more expensive than beach camp bar. We also had buffet style dinner at busy restaurant which was ok. Beach nice with some water based activities. Quiet once music stopped. Good day and night security
Report Check-InEntry fee
2000 per person during the day
4000 per person at night
Big campsite, not so flat pitches if with a roof tent. Clean ablution block. We were only ones for overnight stay, so decided to go else where. If it was busier we might have stayed there.
Report Check-InNice campsite right on the beach. Camped on a Wed, we were the only ones around. Very windy night however. Can use the nice facilities at the hotel. Hot water when we visited but area is affected by black outs. Mk 3000 pppn.
Report Check-InBig shaded place for truckcamper directly at the lake, ablution ok., electricity for the car. The staff are very friendly.
But at weekend it is very noisy from dayvisitors. Bar and restaurant in the Lodge are very good, the pool is nice but you have to pay for using the pool.
Pleasant campsite with friendly staff. NOT pleasant on weekends with LOTS of day visitors and loud music til early hours. Even though there is security 24/7 lock yourself in your tent or camp near the gate as someone entered our tent while we were sleeping and stole our bag. So be vigilant. Price was 3000mk
Report Check-InHuge campsite next to nice hotel, weekends get very busy with day visitors but then you are put in a less noisy area, we had to use the hotel swimming pool showers that by the end of the day were covered in sand, and there was no hot water at all despite having a hot tap, normal campsite may be better Monday to Friday, nice pool 2,000mk extra, camping is 3,000mk pppn, restaurant is quite good and reasonable, staff nice with lots of security about, private beach but lots of day visitors at weekend
Report Check-Invery good except the showers are cold, also a lovely beach scene
