Description

A steep logging parking clearing just off National Forest Road 55. Only a few miles away from highway 101 in the Siuslaw National Forest. 4WD likely requires to get up the 25 yards to the flat camping spot. Very high perch with vista view of clear cut area and the forest as well as the west direction to the ocean.

Latest Check-Ins

We tried to stay here in two 10' truck campers (Arctic Fox & Eagle Cap) carried on 2 dually pickups, but it didn't just work out for us. The spot listed here is fine for a single vehicle, but the 2nd vehicle won't be able to level out which was our issue with two vehicles. It isn't too terribly steep to this spot, but it is decent and didn't think unloading would be good either.

An option for 2 people would be one person to stay here and one person to stay around a few curves at the pullout right here. 44.288402, -124.075036. You are right on the road, but I wouldn't think this road gets much traffic. You can actually see each other from these locations.

Also be aware that with taller truck campers at the 12'+ mark, you will be hitting some branches. Nothing crazy, but we both hit our fair share of branches.

Another obstacle for us was zero cell and Starlink needs to look to the north and pretty much all these had significant blockage to the north and why we didn't end up staying.

I also tried to go find FS555-Ext listed further down this road and it's just too overgrown to get in there with a tall truck camper.

Great spot. A little steep but not too bad.
Backed in an 18ft truck (140” wheelbase) and had no problem getting level without any aids. Pretty dark sky at night and only 2 vehicles drove by all night on a weekday. No cell service.

Tried to stay at this place in my Jeep, but was awoken at 11 pm by strange sounds that sounded like a human unscrewing something on my vehicle(weird I know I thought I was loosing it) so I had to leave in the middle of the night because my gut told me something wasn’t right. As I was leaving a strange car drove by and stopped in the middle of the road about 200ft down. This was in the middle of the week, late at night and in the off season. Seems off to me. I would stay here if I wasn’t alone but considering there’s no service and it’s a ways away from the main road I don’t recommend it if you are a solo traveller. I think there are some suspicious people around. Beautiful spot tho. Sad I had to leave.

Drove here but did not stay the night, mostly paved to get to this spot. Spot was very steep spot to park. Would only recommend for a tent in a pinch. Not suitable for any vehicle camping. Very skinny road to it, quiet the climb to drive to get to it as well. Hard to capture how steep the “parking spot” is but I attached a photo as well

Good place for a one-night stay. Driving up NF55 there seems to be several spots to pull off. Drive to the clear cut and around the first big bend on the left is an inclined road to a secluded-ish spot. My AWD got up it fine. Only people I saw drive by were other campers or van dweller so it felt safe as a solo camper. Quiet all night besides the wind and the ocean.

Stayed one night. Narrow windy road leading up to spot. We have a small truck with 4WD and a 15ft trailer. Took a few tries, but were able to get up to the steep spot. With a bigger truck would do fine. Nice secluded spot off of 1010

Nice place to spend the night. Wide open skies make for great stargazing. There is a fire pit and wood lying around for gathering.

Great spot. Our 2wd van slid a little on dry ground but made it up fine. I threw up some rece

Sweet spot getting a bit more overgrown than in previous photo, but lots of ripe blackberry’s at this time of year so breakfast was great this morning. Beautiful spot definitely would recommend didn’t find the road that busy at all even on a Friday evening.

Nice views in the clear cut. Saw deer and lots of birds. Camped on the landing above the road, easy to drive up. This is a main road so there was quite a bit of traffic into the night and the morning. We drove the FS 5500 - FS 5590 loop and there's lots of other spots to pull off along those roads with views that might be a bit quieter.
