Description

Good place to stay between Mbeya and Dar. With camping facilities, but make sure you go for breakfast at the restaurant – amazing homegrown food! Farm produce including fantastic beef available to buy. $13 pppn (2024).

Campsites under some trees with a braai pit. Toilet and shower block were nice and clean. A place to do dishes. It is a campsite and lodge on a working farm and it is possible to buy some fresh farm products. They have a walking trail on the property. Cozy restaurant and bar that we did not try out. Great place to stop.

Reserve restaurant and bar prior to arrival or you will not be welcome.

Great place to stay! Really nice, hot showers! Kids till 12 stay for free! Adults $12,- ppn. Clean ablutions, nice restaurant, nice coffeeshop with fresh vegetables, coffees, cappuccinos, cake, samosa, etc. You can reach this number for reservations +255 754 306 144, also on Whatsapp!

Report Check-In

13 dollars ppn and kids half price.
Ablutions are good and clean, good hot shower with donkey
The coffee shop is good as well (it is at road entrance).
We did not try the restaurant however.
A little bit overpriced with the kids compared to ugelele camp site in mbeya (same price but swimming pool and plenty of other activities).
We stayed only one night.

Report Check-In

Fantastic place! Nicky, the owner, and her team made us feel so welcome. They invited the kids to join the washing of the cows which they loved. Don't forget to order fresh bread, its really really nice. We had lunch at the coffee shop, and indeed as said before, the egg role is amazing. Spot was great, however be aware your stuff under the shelter might get wet with heavy rain. Ablutions are very clean, best super nice hot shower we've had in a long time. We did not have proper Vodacom reception, but they have (some) WiFi at the restaurant.

Report Check-In

Spent 2 nights camping. Could pitch my tent under a palapa. Very clean ablutions, restaurant (I didn't eat there), beverages. 10 USD/pppn. They have cottages, too: 60-75 USD. 2 trails for tracking, and a nice coffee house near the highway (order the egg roll, it's fantastic). The dirt road to the Old Farm is a good one (dry), maybe 800m from hwy. Vodacom signal good most of the time. Power outrages every now and then, so wifi at restaurant not reliable. Power sockets and light bulb at every campsite (energy seems to be more stable at night).

Report Check-In

Lovely, all as others have said. Excellent cell service on Vodacom. Three course dinner for $15 USD was excellent. Also pre ordered a nice loaf of bread delivered fresh from the oven in the morning. Farm stand has nice meat and vegetables not often not commonly found like broccoli and cauliflower.

Report Check-In

Good ablutions with warm shower at night. Offered us dinner when we called on the day of arrival and camping facilities. Well equipped to house campers

Report Check-In

This is the second time we've stayed at this beautiful campsite. Both times we stayed a couple of nights as it is a nice place to recuperate from long days on the road. The best part is how peaceful and calm the campsite always seems to be, despite it being a very popular stop.

Report Check-In

I forgot to mention the restaurant by the campsite : great food in a very special historical building ! And they also have chalets for the non-campers 😀

Report Check-In

Beautiful bush-campsite only 1km from the mainroad, but super quiet at night. Ablutions spacious and superclean. Supernice hot shower to spoil yourself after a long drive. Owner and staff extremely helpful and friendly. They have a coffeeshop (cappuccino = perfect !) by the side of the road where you can buy fresh veggies and meat from the farm. Behind the coffeeshop nice walk to the garden and dam. Highly recommended stopover

Report Check-In

Lovely campsite, very peaceful. They have a really nice bar/restaurant onsite and a farm shop down by the main road which is good for meat, eggs, and vegetables.

The owner Nicky puts a lot of care into the site and it really shows.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite. Very quiet and private ablutions. A hot shower and a nice restaurant. You can order fresh bread in the evening and pick it up next morning. It is very very good!
They have a map for hiking trails. We used them for a running workout.
Electricity is only available in the evening from 7 to 7 and is not stable and strong. We used it to charge our electric car, but the max we could use was 1.5kW. So we decided to use our solar panels the next day to charge more. We stayed two nights as it is just a very relaxing place to be.

Report Check-In

Still one of the nicest places to camp between Mbeya and Dar es Salaam. Very dry surroundings when we were there but the ablutions and restaurant are all great. The farm shop is now located by the farm entrance on the T1 not at the campsite anymore. Wifi available at the restaurant but load shedding power cuts will affect availability of electricity at the sites and the wifi when the back up battery dies. 10USD pppn camping.

More photos on our ig @thelandymission, feel free to message us for more info.

This place is a gem. At first the campsite itself felt similar to other bush spots but the owners are so lovely and the real gem is the restaurant and bar. It is a tradition mud lapa with amazing dinner ambience - we had our own food but still sat there for a few beers and a couple rounds of cards. It was one of our birthdays and they even gave us a lava cake for it. The food is amazing, both dinner and breakfast.

Hot shower and toilet facilities are super clean and clearly well maintained. Just feels like a lot of love is put into this place!

We left this place feeling unbelievably refreshed. Would recommend!

Report Check-In

Stopover between Mbeya and Dodoma. Nice camping spots nestled in the bush. Hot water with a donkey, electricity and you can buy wood. $10 pp pn.

Report Check-In

The camp site has shade. There are clean toilets and hot showers. I paid US$ 10. But BEST is the restaurant. The ambience is superb: mud walls and stone floors, tablecloths and flowers – and SUPERB food at very reasonable prices. It is worth visiting just for dinner! The farm shop has organic produce.

Report Check-In

Stunning camp site. Warm showers, very clean toilets and drinking water. $10 pp camping. High way noise is not bad at all. Lovely owls in the trees at night calling. Van get drinks and food at restaurant. Accepts card payment. I really hope she keeps the place open. I highly recommend staying here and even more than a night and walk on the farm.

Report Check-In

Lovely campsite, fabulous informative owner Nicki. Super kitchen for meals. We enjoyed our three course supper. Everything is just perfecr.

Report Check-In

Just wonderful to camp here. Good ablutions. Excellent kitchen for supper. Lovely Nicki’s the owner and readily shares interesting info. We really enjoy our stay. The kitchen baked bread every day just order night before. The farm stall is lovely to stock up on veggies, meat and drinks etc and have a coffee and treat there too. We left with bags of groceries. Highly recommended campsite.

One of the best camps we have been to. Great camp areas and bomas. Seperate area for big rigs and busses. Lodges, ‘stables’ too.
Great bar and restaurant. FYI book ahead for meals as they are cooked fresh daily as required.
Lovely coffee shop with fresh farm produce.
Great attention to detail. Great ablutions. Super owner and staff. Highly recommend.

Report Check-In

A must stop along the road. Very natural and quiet place. Cute and clean abolutions. Very friendly owner & staff. Coffee and cake at the shop down the road. We paid 23 300 TSH = 10 $ pp.

Report Check-In

Nice place, friendly owner.

Apparently the restaurant is just for lodge people, we were told there was a bar and restaurant by the reception guy but after waiting for an hour we were told it’s not possible to have dinner and drinks were also just for restaurant. If you want to eat please reserve because everything is fresh.

Breakfast was possible.

We paid 23 USD for one night.

The store at the road is great with fresh groceries and coffee. We bought a lot of fresh groceries here.

So glad we stopped here! We were just looking for a stopover between Mbeye and Dodoma, but this well exceeded our expectations. The grounds are beautiful and the ablutions are pristine. We didn't hear any road noise, just nature sounds.

The highlight is the food - be sure to book ahead for dinner. Their ingredients come straight from the farm, some of the best meals we had on the road. The restaurant itself is restored from the original farmhouse walls and has lots of atmosphere.

Report Check-In

Lovely big pitches with firepits and thatched boma, lighting and electrical socket. Ablutions are very nice and clean with hot water. Staff are super friendly and there is a lovely cosy bar. Also an amazing coffee shop with homemade cakes and a larder shop with fresh meat and provisions. we stayed 1 night en route to Ruhaha NP, 48000 tzs which included 2000 tzs for firewood. 2 persons.

There’s not pure joy: as of the wind direction you hear moderately the highway noice. Wi-Fi at extra cost(1 usd- in our case not working). Firewood for sale (2000tsh)

One of our all-time favourite places. We visited Kisolanza Old Farmhouse 13 years ago for the first time. Since then, we always love to come back!
Meals are great, cooked with lots of love from homegrown ingredients. Ablutions are great, almost the best ones we experienced, even with a long drop toilet that isn't smelling!
Campsite TSH 23.000 pppn

Fantastic food in restaurant and great to find fresh food and meat from the farm stall ( which is close to the road). The campsite and restaurant is further from road, so a lovely quiet night. Hot shower, clean ablutions, sit on composting toilet. Boma shelter if it rains. 50 km s of Iringa. Nicky is a count of knowledge and provided valueble advise. 23000Tsh each to camp. 3 course meal was 35000 and great quality (and quantity)

Because of the cold we slept in a room. Simple and clean room. It included diner and breakfast . Diner was one of the best we had in months, and a great vegetarian option. Very friendly staff.

Stunning lodge and camping with beautiful grounds.
3 family bungalows, 3 double bungalows and grassed camping with electricity. Free Wi-Fi at the restaurant.
All fresh produce grown on the farm. Cold beer!

Great camp site with trees for shade, little boma with pucnic table and electricity. Good abolutions and donkey heated water.

Report Check-In

Very friendly, also very big. We were the only people camping but they can host 100 people… so watch out in the busy season.
Ingredients of the farm are wonderful, the chef unfortunately isn’t great. So I would recommend you buy all your food in the shop and cook it yourself. Breakfast is nice.
WiFi was working but very very slow. No Airtel reception.

Report Check-In

Friendly people.
Restaurant is being renovated at the moment so the restaurant and related facilities like dinner and WiFi are not available.
Price still USD10 or TSH23.000 pppn. Children half price.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite in the forest (10usd p.p). Each site has a nice shelter with a table. Each site has electricity. Good abblutions with attention for detail. The restaurant is closed but they still serve a very good 3 course meal (35.000tsh) with ingredients from the farm. They really made an effort to set the table with candles and flowers even though we were the only guests (we ended up eating here both evenings). You can also order bread. Good walks around the farm and great birdlife. Close to the road, so you hear it at the campsite. No wifi when we were there. Could only pay cash.

Report Check-In

Pretty nice Camp on a working farm. Camping 10 USD, electricity available, WiFi at the bar. They serve diner as well. Every campsite with a nice lapa and braai.

You can buy fresh veggies and meat from the coffeeshop down the road. Can really recommend to stay here, as well a good base to visit Ruaha NP

Report Check-In

As many already said; Nicky and her team are fantastic. It’s worth a stopover, even if you just pop in at their farm shop for fresh produce, meat and a good meal or cake. Nicky is more than accommodating. The camping facilities are great with very hot showers, washing up facilities all set in a tranquil atmosphere (We heard wood owls calling at night). Potable water also available. Teggy baked us fresh bread and there are farm visits available, you can also walk/run the 1000 hectare farm (encouraged by Nicky). Camping cost us 10usd pppn.

Bhesania garage.
Land Rover specialists. TDI and Puma. However if you need parts, you have to go to Dar. Regular maintenance is fine.

Report Check-In

Nicky, her team, the farm, animals & produce, the campsite, the walks to the dam - so many reasons why we keep returning and will keep on returning - but Nicky is truly one in a million...

Camping still 10$ (23000Sh) pppn. Stable rooms look really nice & great value at 85000Sh for two (incl breakfast). 3 course dinner 35000Sh (restaurant officially closed but they try to accommodate guests). Camping lovely as described before: clean facilities, long drops & hot water from donkey. Nicky is so kind and said that they will still take travelers, although they have given up with the tourism due to the covid. Please support them.

Report Check-In

a great stopover between Iringa and Mybea Nice clean facilities quiet area I've been there before and it's never let me down. sadly they've closed the restaurant at the campsite but they do have a small cafe located right behind the John Deere dealership that has great meals and also sells frozen meats and fresh vegetables from the farm.

Report Check-In

Very nice campsite, lovely facilities and freshly baked bread. Would definitely recommend. 10USD pppn.

Report Check-In

What a wonderful campsite
Many thanks to Nicky & her team for keeping this haven open during these trying times of COVID
This campsite is well run and maintained
We camped the first night on the open campsite near reception and due to the cold we moved into the stables rooms for the next two nights. Most campsites have power and a boma
The stables rooms are very comfortable and well appointed.
This is a must stay on the T1 road between Iringa and Makambaka

Report Check-In

Always a pleasure to be here. Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff and well designed and maintained ablutions. You can now buy fresh vegetables at the shop on the road (next to John Deer).

Report Check-In

The campsite is spaciously laid out in the African bush. We preferred the more open space at the reception. Very friendly and attentive reception and guest care. Unfortunately, the restaurant and bar are no longer in operation due to a lack of guests. Nice walks through the bush and through the plantations. There is also a view of the country.

Report Check-In

As great as everyone said. It is just beautiful and Nicky is so nice and kind. We had a romantic dinner with a lovely arranged place. One of the best places.

Report Check-In

Because of Covid we spent 6 months on the beautiful Kisolanza Farm. We experienced warmth and hospitality at its best! Above all the owner Nicky but also the entire staff we will sorely miss. The campsite is run with great attention to detail, wonderful walks through 1000 hectares of farmland and swimming in the nearby dam are possible. Fresh food is excellently prepared, showers and toilets are always clean, it can’t be run better. We will never forget Nicky and the team and hopefully will stay friends forever. Thank you Kisolanza Team!

Report Check-In

Big campsite with clean ablutions, hot donkey shower and long drop toilet. The food in the restaurant is very, very good and fresh from their vegetable garden! We did a nice walk on the farm and bought fresh bread and veggies from the farm. Nicky the owner is very friendly and enthusiast, she can also make deals for Ruaha NP.

Report Check-In

Great stopover from Malawi to Dar or vice versa. Lots of shade and flat ground, we stayed at a place with a Banda. Drop toilets, but there is hot water. We bought fresh eggs, bread, carrots, lettuce, broccoli, spring onions and strawberries (all really nice) for $7. Camping is $10 pppn, which is a bit much in comparison with other campsites with more amenities. There if WiFi in one hut $1 per day, but didn't use it so don't know the speed.

Report Check-In

Fantastic campsite to stay in Southern Tanzania. All of the below still apply. We were told that you can only buy meat if you eat at the restaurant as they do not have a license to sell meat. We could buy veggies. There is Wi-Fi in the TV room, not bar, but it was off at the time. Staff super friendly.
Definitely recommendef

Report Check-In

A lovely campground with lots of trees and plenty space between camps. Great water pressure and hot showers. We could buy produce and at good prices, the fresh bread is stunning. Sites with thatch bandas have power.

Report Check-In

A lovely flat, campground surrounded by trees with plenty of space. Ablutions very clean with plenty of hot water. We personally didn’t see where you would be able to get power, however if you asked perhaps they would help hook you up.

We were only disappointed to find out that they didn’t have any meat/farm products available and we were not able to have dinner at the restaurant. If this is one of your reasons for visiting, perhaps call ahead. Otherwise a very pleasant spot to camp for one or two nights.

$10pppn

Report Check-In

Great campsite, quiet and lots of space. Ablutions are clean, dry toilet with toilet paper, hot shower. Camping is 10USD pp and firewood 1$. Charming owner who provided us a lot of tips about the surroundings and Tanzania in general.
The 3 courses meal was amazingly teasty eventhough it might seems a bit expensive (18USD pp). The ambience is warm, the staff very pro and making sure you are having a good time. The Kilimajaro beer (500ml 4000 shillings) is really good. We definitely had a great time. Fully recommend!

Report Check-In

What a lovely place, the owners is friendly and nice. The ablutions is really nice and very clean. This is a place to stay over on your way to Dar.

Report Check-In

Great campsites with bomas for sun and rain protection. They also have rooms available. Very charming place! 10USD pppn for camping.

Report Check-In

Good place with nice pitches and flat services to park your car. Small little huts with power and braai facilities next to the car. Toilets and showers are clean and look new. Hot water takes a bit as they have to fire it up. Wifi in the bar. Restaurant on site, but we didn’t try it, although the homemade soup they gave us was delicious. Friendly staff and owner with a lot of knowledge of the area. Price is 23000 tsh pppn.

Report Check-In

great campsite, wonderful food in the restaurant. showers not the best and the pitches are sand, not grass, but still definitely recommended.

Report Check-In

Good place! Nice toilet and shower facilities. You can do some walking tours around. It’s allowed to make a campfire and they have little huts at the camping spots, for when it’s heavy raining. We had a good time here.

Report Check-In

Great place! We were the only ones camping and it was a very quiet stay. We were happy with the shelter next to the campsite because it was raining. Ablutions are very clean, it’s a pit toilet but with seat (no squatting). It’s best to shower after each other, otherwise the pressure of the hot water is not great. We bought spinach and carrots from the friendly kitchen ladies for 2000. Price is now 10$pp or 22500pp.

Report Check-In

Great place. Massive site. Clean everywhere. Hot water, power, bandas are great and the owners passed in some great info for the area and in general. Certainly with a stop and. If you have time a few days r&r. Lots of walking routes on the farm.

Nice stop on the way north or south. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good amenities. Nice sites. Fun walk.

Report Check-In

Very nice and quite campsite. Toilette and showeres are really nice and clean. No problem with hot water. We payed 20.250 TSh pppn. One Overland Truck was there but it was so isolated from our site (also with own toilettes etc.) we didn’t recognized them.

Report Check-In

Good stop over on your way to Dar, but don’t forget to go into Iringa as it is a nice city to walk through.

Campsite is situated on a secure and nice area with lots of trees for shade. Some camp spots have there own small hut with table and bench. There is power on the camp site and a fire pit, but no braai facilties.

Abolution looks new with clean drop toilets, donkey showers and refreshing room.

Wifi available at bar, but it slow. Bar doesn’t really have its charm.

Owner has a lot of knowledge of Tanzania and is really helpfull.

Price still the same.

Report Check-In

Arrived after dark. Staff were great at the gate, very welcoming. Another man sharply dressed in a suit showed us where to camp and showed us the ablutions, as we couldn’t tell in the dark where things were. Very quiet. Drop toilets, but so clean and toilet paper provided! Hand washing sink with soap, cloth towels and mirror, hot and cold water, also very clean. Showers amazing! Great pressure, clean and very hot water in the morning from the donkey being lit the night before.
Dinner by reservations only.

Report Check-In

Beautiful campsite, 9usd a night non negotiable for camping. We had a simple shelter with electricity, light, and a picnic bench. Ablutions in great condition with nice hot showers.

Report Check-In

So now that it's no longer the weekend we have returned to Kisolanza. Somehow the staff have cleared up after the masses departed and the place is back to its normal tranquil state. It's so good that we are considering staying a few days to relax after some long days driving.
Fresh bread and vegetables are available.
The restaurant fixed menu at $18 each may seem expensive but the quality of the food is excellent, particularly the meat from the farm (we had both T-bone and roast sirloin).
Water on the campsite is good but ask Nikki and she will direct you to the borehole pump for the best water (be prepared to pump yourself - 200l took us 30mins).
Vodacom signal is almost non existent on the campsite.
9usd pppn.

How things can change......
We stayed here for 4 or 5 nights because we liked the place so much a few years ago on our journey up. Today on the way down we bypassed Iringa specifically so we could stay at Kisolanza. We got there at 3:30pm to find a massive party underway with a sound system making so much noise that you could feel it inside the closed cab. We were told it would continue into the early hours.....we left to go all the way back to Iringa. After having already been on the road for 8 hours this wasn't particularly welcome.

Report Check-In

Lovely place!! Quite big but doesn’t feel it as camping spots are separated by trees. Each spot has its own Banda with picnic table, some have power. The bar has WiFi til 7pm which works fine. Nicky the owner was lovely. We bought good quality meat, veg and eggs from the farm at very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Report Check-In

they will do laundry for a tip. firewood is provided on request. Hot shower. long Drop toilets and showers spotless clean. Report Check-In

Nice camp site under plenty of trees and out of the bustle of the main lodge. Nikki the owner was very helpful and knowledgeable. The food however was a bit of a let down but may have been a once off. Showers and toilets were clean with hot water!

Report Check-In

Ok and clean place with good facilities.
It has a small bar, spa and restaurant. There are special taps outside to do the dishes.
Some sandy spots with or without a little hut with picknick table. Nothing more and nothing less.
We had a different opinion about this one.

We paid a non-negotiable USD9.- pp but with a bad exchange rate, it turned out to be around USD10.- pp. It's that we drove 600km that day incl. bordercrossing but I would recommend driving 50 km further to town.

One of the reasons we stopped was for the Wi-Fi but since there is only 1GB a day available until 7PM, I wasn't even able to refresh my whatsapps and e-mail.

It is still a nice campingspot 'though.

Report Check-In

All of the othet comments still apply.
Beware: CASH ONLY although prices are quite high in this place. We arrived by bicycle and could stay only 2 nights because our cash was limited.
The staff is very friendly, especially Leila the manager who also takes care of the spa. We could use some of their cooking gear.
We were able to order only the stater and the desert for 6$ instead of the whole meal for 18$. the cook is amazing, he makes great food!!
