Description

Cottages and campsite set in a jungly environment right at the beach, with a shelter to most sites. Charging points and electricity per camp spot. Some of the sites are at the beach front and have a good view over the sea.

Toilet and shower block is ok and with hot water in the afternoon. Average restaurant but nice beach bar, great little swimming pool and plenty of relaxing spots.

What a disappointment! We planned on stopping here to camp for a couple of days one of which was our 57th wedding anniversary. We had also camped here on another overland trip some 12 years earlier when Peponi was owned and run by the previous South African owners. Back then it was great with decent ablutions and was obviously we'll looked after and very attractive. The ablutions particularly are now unpleasant, none too clean, with flooded floors in the men's toilet, a broken toilet seat and altogether one of the worst we have experienced in some two months travelling through southern and east Africa. We were told the UK owners were in Nairobi; they maybe should be on the premises and start tackling the ablutions. As Peponi claims to be keen on environmental issues it would be appropriate to make an effort to remove some of the plastic junk off the section of beach on their frontage.

A couple of nice campsites close to the beach. The two overlooking the sea are the best. Electricity at each site. Great chill area near the pool. Downside for us where the abblutions. Run down is an understatement and everything is in bad condition. The womens are disgusting and I was told to use the mens side wich only has one toilet with a toilet seat. Only cold water in the showers. Wifi was working about 50% of the time. Paid 8 usd p.p

One of our favorite or most favorite campsite in tanzania ! You can camp right at the beach. There is a great little pool, beach bar and plenty of places to relax. Love the jungly compound. The staff is very attentive and the place is well taken care off, despite the quit times now. Spend here a few nights over New Years, went to Zanzibar, and happily returned. Sad to have to leave tomorrow

Report Check-In

After reading the raving reviews, we were quite disappointed with the place. Yes; the pool- and lounge area is nice and the facilities clean. But the campsite itself felt very cramped - especiqlly when multiple campers are there. And the beach was the least impressive we’ve seen along the Indian Coast.

For more idylic beaches and camping directly on the beach, head north to Tiwa in Kenya or south around Pangani :) 🏝

Highly recommended. We stayed for five nights. Shelter for campsite, electricity, if a front row campsite is available, the view to the ocean is beautiful. Restaurant food nice.

Report Check-In

We stayed for one week. Lovely beach, electricity on campsite for free. Friendly staff, new owner (since 2014), new restaurant and bar, beachbar with many lounges to relax. Food in the restaurant is ok. Many activities such as fishing, snorkelling, diving, … for reasonable prices. $ 8 pppn children up 3 year pay full price. Not very likeable: they charged $ 10 (!) for borrowing the barbecue and if you pay by credit card they charge another 4% , salty water in shower, no taps on site. Internet was slow and often not available we had to ask again and again which was enjoying. Good place to stay longer nevertheless.

Wonderful campsite. Perfect place to relax for a few days. I’m not sure if there is a new/retrained chef, but we ate all our meals there during our stay and cannot find fault, all were excellent.
Price was just US$8, no extra for use of power at the campsite.
Highly recommended.

A nice campsite with (some) nice sites. Fun places to relax with cushions and hammocks sprawled out. The biggest disappointment was the food. There seems to be no quality control between meals. No fires allowed leaving overlanders at the whim of the restaurant.

Report Check-In

Absolute paradise. Great views, great walks, relaxing lounge and great location. Campsite with ocean view. No beach boys bothering you. Showers only with salt water but hot in the afternoon and well maintained. One of the new ablution blocks is just finished.

Report Check-In

Nice place, friendly staff. The old washrooms are now in maintenace. Hope they will be better when they are ready.

A good campsite on the beach 30 kms from Tanga on the Tanga-Pangani road. Though the beach is not spectacular by East African standards and no where near the kind of beach found in, say Diani Beach on Kenya's south coast, the purpose built 'makuti' shelters under which one sets up tent are great for life outside the tent and allow wonderful lounging and reading, even in inclement weather. This is a great feature one wishes all campsites would copy. The owners and staff offer good service. Campsite fees at 10$ per person here and as in most places in Tanzania generally is almost double or at least 30 percent higher than in similar places in Kenya. Overall would recommend the place highly.

Nice place, try to get a place near the beach. Toilets and showers are old and dirty. Hot water only between 16.30 and 20.00. We paid 7,5 dollar pppn. Restaurant is okay. Lots of places to relax in the resort.

One of the best places along the coast of Tanzania. Nice beach bar area, small clean pool, wifi slow, shady campsites with shelters, 7.50$ pppd, 1.50$ extra for use of the electricity at the shelters. An excellent place to hangout and relax for a few days. Enjoy ...

Report Check-In

Extremely well organised. We paid $7.50 pppn. Campsite right on beach, nice and shady. Each site comes with a shelter and light. Campsite K best located. We did not eat but the restaurant looked nice. Relaxed bar and pool area. Ablutions ok...hot water! We loved the snorkelling trip ($25pp). Would recommend and return!

Report Check-In

Best place we have ever visited. Beautiful campground with shelter and electricity. Very clean pool with bar and plenty of hammocks, new restaurants and laundry service

Report Check-In

Great chilled place to pass some days.

Report Check-In

As described by most. Ablutions could be cleaner, toilet do not always flush properly. During our stay (high season) they cleaned once a day, but increased it to two times a day. Kite surfing school has set up from December till March. Kris is a good teacher, but very poor at organizing (make really good arrangements if you go kite surfing).

Report Check-In

great place
they also offer a day trip to a sandbank around 3 km offshore for
25 $

Report Check-In

Really nice place to setup for few days. Nice owner and staff. Shady emplacement and nice swimming pool when it's low tide. Shower is hot at the end of afternoon but really hot. And Internet is ok at wifi zone

Great Camp. Camping RIGHT on the Beach. For food, especialy real Italian piza go to the place next door (Capricorno).

Report Check-In

As previously described, nice location on the beach. If you park at the southern end of the campsite you can get free Wifi from next door :-)

Half way between Pangani and Tanga, this place is a must if you want to chill out by the beach for a few days. Amazing restaurant, pool and ablutions and a sea that is as warm as a bath – don’t miss it! $15 night(ish)

Report Check-In

Campsite under threes with a shelter to each site. Some of the sites are at the beach front and has good view over the sea. Power cost extra per day. Toilet and shower block is ok and with hot water in the afternoon. A place to do dishes and laundry. Possible to use a garage if you have to fix something on our car. Good restaurant and a bar. A small swimming pool. We arranged for a boat to go from Pangani to Zanzibar from Peponi and then they let you park your car for free while you are on Zanzibar.
