Place now open again for lodging.Still rebuilding after their fire last year. I didnt stay since already at Magumba lodge which I think is better for camping. Both places have incredible views. But stopped off at Mambo view to check it out and have a cold beer which you cant get at Magumba.

Report Check-In

CLOSED - has been destroyed by the locals. Looks more like a crime scene with gangsters now. We left straight away.

New owners since June 2023. A nice place deserving some renovation. Currently only spaces for two vehicles, not sure if they could already accomodate tents. Simple ablutions in the central building where reception, bar, restaurant and offices are. Good paths to the viewpoint, probably offering a stunning view when the weather is clearer. Important: Observe the signs on the main gravel road, i. e. use the northern and not the southern access currently shown in Tracks4Africa for Mambo.

This magnificent camp and viewpoint is no longer landlocked. You can enjoy this site and the neighboring village, then go down
to the Arusha road by the new, very recent and magnificent track via LANGONI in Mkomazi (see photo)

Really out of the way. Not worth it if you’re not staying there. Small campground and cottages are available. Pretty basic facilities but the view is pretty decent.

This was one of the worst experiences we had in 4 years of our trip. We drove 2 hours from Lushoto and arrived almost at night. Ally, that was polite all the time, showed us the only spot for camping. It was ridiculously small, if you park there you barely can move around the car. So we took several minutes to take the car out of there and asked to camp on the Parking lot, even with many cars around, but at least was flat and we could move. That's when this woman showed up, i assumed she was the owner. Didnt say hi or anything, just said we couldn't camp at the Parking lot. I tried to explain to her that the spot for camping was really bad and she told me there was another place, but 500 meters away. I was trying to solve the problem, as any normal person, and she just sent us away to another camping place. Have no idea why this place is so famous, we arrived at Magumba and were received with lots of love and welcoming. The view is even better, i guarantee you. Anyway, just this place shouldnt call itself a "camping" place when there's only one absurdly small spot to put your car. And no one should treat you so rudely. Ps: the washroom was filthy, for real.

Very nice place. Just one spot for a camper with a rooftop tent. There is a little hut right beside the camp spot which gives you a bit of a windshelter. You will need that.
They provide you with firewood.
The view from the place in the valley is just stunning. Write them a whatsapp beforehand so they know you are coming.

Amazing place with ridiculous views over the rest if the Usambara Mountains and plains to the north.

Paid US$5 for camping pppn. There is an option for camping with breakfast for US$10 pppn but breakfast is not worth the extra 5 USD.

Only currently one small space for roof top tent camping which could maybe fit 2 cars. Also has small hut with electricity and water which you get to yourself or could put small tent inside.

Ablutions are clean with western toilet and hot running water.

Cold beers at the honesty bar are 4000tsh for 375ml.

They can also assist with organising several activities which are very worth the price they charge.

Really amazing place and so refreshing to get a cheap place in Tanzania.

Note the only access road is via Lushoto the 2 other paths up the mountain are not passable by 4x4 only maybe by motorbike.

We stayed here for 4 nights and they offered us a luxury tent, including breakfast and dinner for $20,- p.p.p.n. The tent has a private terrace and a bathroom with a toilet and nice hot shower. Breakfast is simple but they make a good Dutch ommelet and buffet dinner is nice!
We did 3 really nice hikes with amazing views! The shagayu forest hike with Joseph was beautiful and also the Rangwi round trip(normally 2 days but we did it in 1 day) was fantastic! Joseph is a knowledgeable guide and can tell you a lot about threes and the villages.

Report Check-In

This place is perfect for relaxing „with a view“ and for doing great hikes. We did a guided day trip to the Shagayu natural forest. Our guide Joseph showed us many chameleons and plants and gave us many information about the people. We really can recommende this location!

I would call this place "the hidden gem of Tanzania"! I enjoyed it during COVID-19 times for almost 3 months. First staying in the car, later moving to a lovely cottage. By now I feel like being part of the whole family (including 7 dogs and Dolly the shoat). Dagmara and Ally are open-hearted and take good care of the place. All the staff is lovely, friendly and helpful. The food is extraordinarily tasty! Every day the weather and view was different and depending on the season and time of the day, if you are lucky, you will see Kilimanjaro in full bloom in 190 km distance. The views to Pare mountains, down into the valleys, over Mkomazi and into Kenya can keep you satisfied for weeks!! Be nice to the staff and they might invite you to their private homes in Mambo or Mtae, a hands-on experience you will never forget!

Do not expect a five-star hotel. This is a remote place, everything is built from local resources and well-integrated into the environment. For hot water they have to fire wooden ovens. Be aware of your water consumption! Camping is cheap, the cottages and meals more expensive but worth it. They serve seasonal food according to what is stocked in the market. You won't be able to spontaneously order a chicken if there is none around. If you are vegetarian, Dagmara will be your best friend. They even do their own tofu! Your money is definitely spent well within the local community. Just ask about their projects.

Wifi is good and Vodacom has superb connection. Spots for Overlanders are scarce, just 1 or 2, but there are additional campsites for tents. Prices you find on the website but everything is negotiable.

Great place, we campt 5 day’s in this beautiful place. We do a 2 day guided trekking to Rangwi.
Take the road from Lushoto over Lukozi, Malindi Rangwi to Mambo, is now the better choice. Highly recommend!

Report Check-In

Note that by car you cannot loop back to the main road, you have to drive all the way back to Lushoto.

The best road is Lushoto - Malindi - Rangwi - Mambo. This road is in good condition. The lodge is very well signposted. We took less than 2 hours.

Guide was 20 usd half day/30 usd full day.

Price for camping is 10.000 pp, We also paid 3 usd pp village tax, not sure if this was related to the stay or to the hike.

Campingspot is very small, barely fits 2 cars. We heard bush babies at night.

Slow wifi is free.

The view from the viewpoint area is stunning. It was cloudy the two days we were there but we did get opportunities to see the view. Breathtaking. 5USD pppn for camping. Dinner very expensive and we didn't make use of the restaurant. The remoteness of the place doesn't justify the dinner price for us, as food are grown all around them. Shower water pressure sometimes dissapear completely. Water warmish and sometimes cold. Was told to wash dishes in the bathroom basin as water only available in the bathrooms. Abdul was very helpful and friendly in trying to assist. The road there, depending on which one you take is adventurous and we enjoyed it very much. From Lushoto to Mambo viewpoint took us 4hours. We went via the Magamba Forest Nature Reserve. 10USD pp and 5000Tsh for our truck.

Its a bit off the beaten tracks, but you will not regret 👍👍

Great place. Something that has to be mentioned is the road. From when you turn off the main road in Mombo there’s between 3-4h to the Lodge. We did it during dark and got super lost. The road is not in a very good condition and it’s very slow moving and we even put on 4x4 on our cruiser. We also got the information that the back route on T4A is not acceptable at the time of writing.

The staff is very nice and really want to please you, the owners had some interns that wasn’t very good and were lost. We had 2 cars in the overlanding spot and it worked well, even got a power cord to plug in our fridges to. The price for camping is $5 without breakfast, very cheap. All food and drinks are expensive though...

Showers are public-campsite-bad. Hot water is never available and the pressure is in some cases nonexistent.

We recommend it for the view and the tours as they are very nice with local guides!

Nice view but bar and food are really expensive!!!

Report Check-In

Price is $5 pppn just for camping. $10 pppn for camping & breakfast. Price was non-negotiable. If you pay in Tsh the price list / menu shows Tsh 10,000 pppn - slightly cheaper.

Report Check-In

Incredible location and area. Lodge is as described, definitely worth a visit. We did the caves tour (price negotiatiable) and had a great time.

Report Check-In

Absolutely amazing. First class view of the valley, really friendly and polite staff and a great relaxed atmosphere. We were well taken care of from the moment we arrived.

Paid 15.000 pppn at one of the grassy tent areas. Proper breakfast buffet included in price, great food variety, delicious juice and proper coffee. You can also stay for cheaper without the breakfast. One overland campsite where you can park the car/motorcycle next to you, but the parking is guarded 24/7.

This is THE place to stay in the area!

Report Check-In

Great lodge, pricey but great views and they are doing good things in the area.

Report Check-In

Great view from the viewpoints. Only 1 overland campsite, no facilities at the site but toilet and (hot) shower close to main building. Camping 5 usd pppn. Bar and restaurant are expensieve, so we didn't use.
