Description

Very proper place! Good & clean ablutions, greatly kept garden and plants. US$ 13 cash required for all as of 12 years. WiFi would be an extra US$ 2 cash . Poor mobilephone Econet signal, just E, only very rarely 3G. Restaurant is open to the public, 4-course dinner US$ cash 22, main course alone US$ cash 13. It was not a high class meal. Only local credit cards possible or US$ cash or Rand
Well-maintained campsite with modern ablution. There is wi-fi on the campsite (USD 2 for 24 hours). Campsite is near to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins. Place has good water to fill up your drinking water tanks. Costs 13 USD per person per night. (CAUTION! THEY DON'T ACCEPT BONDS)

Update: We stayed there on the 12-03-2023 and were charged $15pp with free WiFi. The rest of what is written above remains the same.

This used to be Norma Jeans. Lots of construction going on but beautiful gardens and helpful staff. Camping is $15/pp includes WiFi. Showers are clean and lots of hot water. We had breakfast at the restaurant and was ok. Great views of the lake

Report Check-In

Nice grounds as stated already, security, ablutions clean with plenty of hot water, paper and soap. Campground seems to be under construction as in a mess, grills are in piles, no set spaces or garbage bags and washing station in main area drains water onto your feet. Wi-Fi was non existent at the campground but a few complaints in reception and they spent time walking me around to find it. Finally opened the conference building up next door and then had extremely fast Wi-Fi. Oh, Shower had great pressure and plenty of hot water. Perfect for washing long hair. Hotel manager Natasha also had the sink fixed that might so management is very responsive and helpful.
Great breakfast but can’t say enough about the management team!
$15/pp for camping

The campsite is no longer well maintained, but the ablutions are very good. The restaurant has a small menu, may depend on the time. The bream we ordered was very tasty. They are building a lot more chalets. Therefore the lodge is a large construction area.

Nice campsite with intermittent free Wifi and good ablutions, but if you see an overland truck camp somewhere else. They are extremely noisy and behave as if all the campsite belongs to them.

Report Check-In

Very nice place! The grounds are fantastic, all landscaping is superb. The restaurant is a blast to the past but very proper and fancy feeling. Staff are over the top with service. Wi-Fi is free but sporadically goes out (maxes out around 3mbps, more often closer to 500kbps to 2mbps).

There are two campsites both are good, but the one closer to the lake has a better view.

USD$15 to camp
A dinner main course alone was around $8. Very reasonable.

They accept USD and can process international credit cards in USD (mine was a visa).

5/5 would recommend.

Report Check-In

Historically a beautiful camp ground on the grounds of the lovely lodge. Beautiful grounds.
Camp area now turned into a construction site. Conference centre under construction. Unclear if camp ground will be restored once construction completed. The emphasis seems to be more on conference centre and it’s guests, not so much on Campers.

Report Check-In

Still a lot of construction work ongoing but I found a spot which was unspoilt and not noisy. Very nice personnel! Negotiated the price at USD 13 pppn which is normally for big overlanding groups.

Report Check-In

It was a disappointing experience for us.

ONGOING CONSTRUCTION: We reached and found construction work everywhere. Apparently a conference center and some more Accomodation rooms are being built.

What formally used to be a camping area now has all sorts of equipment, material and construction workers.

It is not a typically quiet getaway you would expect. You can still get a spot within to camp, but there are too many people crisscrossing, noises and some uncomfortable ogling from the workers.

Unless the camping area is to be relocated, it's going to lose its privacy as it's sunwiched  between the new conference hall and accommodation units.

ABLUTIONS: There are two separate spaces. The upper and lower. The lower ones are newly updated and really nice looking but you will be sharing with the construction workers. We used the upper ones which were a bit old, but functioning well with hot water.

WIFI: We never had access to Internet for the two days we were there. "Technical problem beyond us," is what we were repeatedly being told until we left. You could have a better experience, but we didn't this time around. If it is working, it reaches the camping area.

STAFF: They were very friendly from the time we initiated the booking process.  Charily and Progress were particularly nice to us. Fast email response which was a bonus, but we wish they could have been a lot honest to us about the status of the camping area.

OVERALL, It is a beautiful location overlooking Lake Mutirikwi. The garden, trees, and flowers, amongst little rocks truly give it a unique beauty. In the quieter times, it's place I would stay and possibly enjoy for days. Braai, yes. Wood, yes, but for $3.

We paid $15pp, which we thought was a bit steep considering there was literally no campsite at that moment, and without Internet for two days.

Ther is construction everywhere. The! build ned houses on the view side. Only some lodges and the restaurant (nice and with a great view, indeed) are unspoiled. A conference center will get next to the (rather basic) gravel campsite. Its still 15pP, kids are charged 8, no bargains even though we were the only guests.
We did not stay.

Nice, quiet, well organized campsite. Well maintained. Two pitches have views of the lake through the trees. US$ 15 ppn including WiFi at the campsite. We were alone at the camp site.

Report Check-In

Lovely campsite! Ablutions are great. Staff is friendly. 1 site overlooking the lake. Very green and quiet (due to COVID)

Now called Clevers Lakeside Resort.
A campsite with a view of the lake, good hard standing in a tranquil setting. The ablutions are excellent, plus washing and laundry area. The main building is surrounded by a glorious garden and you can get meals or a snack menu. WiFi is good even in the camp and US$2 is affordable for 24 hours. Self catering and other accommodation also available. Paid US$8 pppn but it was for locals an in COVID.

Report Check-In

A very clean campsite with lovely ablutions and wonderful staff.
If you get the lone campsite, tucked away by itself, looking over the cliff edge you’re in for a party!

WAY BETTER THAN KYLE CHALETS!!!!!

Report Check-In

Nice setting, clean abolutions, but a proper tourist trap. Recommend just camping for the USD13.- & not even considering the restaurant. USD13.- for an ok‘ish dish & USD4.- (usually USD2.- in a touristy place) for a small can of beer are outlandish for Zimbabwean standards. Additionally, you pay USD2.- to use the WiFi, while being utterly overcharged. Disappointing.

Report Check-In

What a perfect place! We were all alone, perfect ablutions, great view. Dinner at the restaurant was great. Friendly and helpful staff. Why care about bonds, we have US$. Hard to find a better place at Zimbabwe.

Report Check-In

what a fantastic place! had the campside for ourself! great facillities, fantastic views! would like to stay longer! very friendly staff! camping 13 dollar per person, internet 2 dollar for 24 hours.

Report Check-In

¡CAUTION! They don't even accept bonds anymore, they only accept US dollars if you are a tourist, which is not legal! Of course I didn't stay.

Report Check-In

The best campsite i have been so far. You got the lake view, everything is working, spotless toilet and shower. Beautiful garden and not expensive restaurant with great food.
Very friendly and helpful owners and staff.
location is close to the Great Zimbabwe Monument and Kyle Game reserve.
perfect place to relax and explore the surrounding for a few days. Highly recommend !

Report Check-In

As described above. Price still 13$ per Person. I paid in bonds as they did not accept Ecocash. The ones paying in real $ should bargain.
Econet reception poor.
Campsites very clean and on gravel, little shade, as the trees are only at the edges. Only tents can be pitched on the lawn.
There are at least 2 or 3 other campsites in that stretch from Great Zim to here, so it could be worth checking them out.
Nice is to hear the lions roaring in the evening and morning from the lion park on Lake Mutirikwi.

Beautiful is the keyword here; whether it is Marc and Norma Jean (owners), the view, the ablutions, the braai area, the kitchen, the drive up the road, the restaurant, the cabins, the dormitories.....

Very quiet place when I was there (January). Exeptionally good and clean washrooms. Paid internet is very good.
