Description

An overgrown track leads to this viewpoint overlooking one of the Salaa Falls. We spent christmas up here and went to the other falls for a swim. Both spots were completely deserted.
Update 11/23: currently a tree blocks the path for cars! Read comments.

Latest Check-Ins

no more tree across the track but crossing the broken bridge remains difficult even for a 4x4.

Report Check-In

There already seems a detour around the broken tree. We were walking and didn’t realize a tree. The water crossing (bridge as Silke names it) 400m before the viewpoint is still tough and only someone crazy would try to drive through it to spare a nice 400m walk.
Directly ahead the water crossing you can park your car. For the night we decided to stay at a place about 100m further ahead. Enough space for our Hilux and us and a path to the river (200m distance) with pools which were only visited by us (see pic). The other pools (a bit downstream) were pretty crowded with young male locals. We let them their privacy and enjoyed ours.

The bridge to swimming point and viewpoint is broken, so you definitely need a 4x4 and high ground clearance now. I uploaded a picture of the bridge.
To get to the viewpoint, it’s currently impossible with a car because of a tree leaning over the track. Still possible by motorbike. We did.

The road to the view point is still ok for a small car like a Landrover or some thing similar. We spend two nights here and went for a swimm at the other place. There are some guys around who trie to ask you for money. We did not payed anything, because it's not official.

after having enjoyed a dip at the other spot, definitely don't miss this one. the view on the complete fall is worth a few scratches or the walk

Lovely spot to wild camp. Stayed here two days. Came on a motorbike easy and my friend came down the track with 4x4 car a bit slower but made it no problem. When we went to the other falls to swim was deserted but the guy who stays at the house asked for 20,000 gf each to swim at the falls (receipt given). The water is deep enough to jump off the rocks (tested it first over 4 metres). Also met a guy driving down in a two wheel car making slow progress but it is possible.

Very nice quiet bushcamping spot. nnBeeniice temperatures. Been here 12 years ago with an overlandtruck. Not possible anymore I assume. Even our CX got some bushstriping. Difficult to reach with a 2wheel drive.

Arrived about 15:00 to find lots of locals washing clothes and motorcycles in the water. They also had music with speakers. They left about 20:00 once it was dark. The following morning there was no one around. It's a beautiful place, albeit some litter. I recommend checking it out!

The swimming place (abandoned lodge) is way better for camping than the viewpoint. Crossing the last bridge is sketchy but OK, 4WD a must though. Falls great for swimming. Lovely place, nobody around.

Beautiful spot with great view over the Salaa Falls... we stayed here 2 nights, cause it was too crowded down at the swimming pools...lots of locals washing their motorbikes and also a few tourist groups... up here we have been alone all evening and night

Great spot! After turn to swimming track is VERY overgrown, expect scratches on your 4x4, big rigs no way. Must cross one half broken bridge that is a little sketchy 4x4 a must. There is a lodge at the swimming spot that looks abandoned, would be good camping and road is better, not overgrown. Old sign there says 5,000GF for camping and 10,000GF for a cabin, so maybe you would pay that if someone is around.
