Description

Great hostel with large place to park and camp for $10 a night which includes wifi, showers, use of kitchen and use of the amazing pools (x2) and lounging areas upstairs which look onto the beach. They can provide long extensions for electric hookups but no water hookup. It may be possible to tent camp but unsure. There is space for large rigs but the roads on the way down are narrow so may be tight. We are in a Westy and there was plenty of room for higher and longer rigs than us. They have 2 dogs, unsure if they would let you in with other pets.

Owners said we can't camp here. We asked about a hotel room for 2 nights and he said that's not a long enough stay. Unfriendly, we moved on.

Report Check-In

Can't recommend this place! Friends of us already stayed in El Zonte and asked about the price before we arrived. The owner told them it's 10US per car. When we arrived and wanted to stay with our friends in this place, the owner asked for 15US all of a sudden. When we asked for what reason he rose the price within a couple of days he became angry very quickly and told us to leave. He accused us of causing problems anyways, without even talking a word with us. We were never treated as unfriendly as here during our whole trip in the last 1,5 years so far. Very disappointing. Place looked nice to us, but it seems that overlanders who stay in their own vehicle are not welcome here.

Report Check-In

Beautiful place BUT not recommended. The owner is really unfriendly. Prices are: 5 dollars per person and 5 more for the car. We asked if we could stay more than four days and not using the pool neither the kitchen nor electricity and pay 10 per night. First he agreed but then he decided to not wanting us on his ground to avoid problems - because overlanders are making troubles. He almost shouted at me when I was trying to ask why he changed his mind. He was really rude and we left. Canegue hostal next to this place has also a good place to camp with your car: they are welcoming you and there is wifi if you ask for it (5 dollars per person per night). Go there if you want to help good people!

Update parrots: now they cost 4000 USD 🤪

Buen lugar para estar unos días, delante de una buena ola. El propietario al principio parecía poco amable, pero una vez le conoces un poci, es una persona super friendly. Super amable!! Las zonas comunes son super confortables y bonitas. En primera linea de playa.

We stayed there 7 nights with an access to the kitchen, shower and bathroom, wifi, 2 pools, a nice parking lot just for us and our van. The owner is a bit speed but very nice and gave us very good advice for surfing and were to buy good board.
Price is 5$ pp per day. There is a small truck that come everyday from selling fresh fruits and veggies, a couple of restaurants around, the beach at 50m and it's very well located to go surfing at differents spots. The hostel is very quiet, not a party one and a bit more crowded with locals on weekends.

Report Check-In

We camp there with our Jeep and rooftoptent at the parking spot. 10$. Location is really nice BUT the staff absolutely not. And the owners aren’t as well. 1)I went to the beach and came back with an open beer I bought in a shop and one of the owner stopped me in the street and told me pretty rude I could also buy beer at his place. 2) we had to put our dog on a leash around the parrots , not a problem. But on the next day we sat on the terrace and our dog was lying totally chilled and suddenly the brother of the owner came and said also very rude that we re lucky we came on a Sunday cause he wasn’t there otherwise no dogs allowed cause if his parrot would kill one he has to pay 1000$. pretty weird story. we ask if that happened before ,no answer - he just ignore us.
Just sad that we aren’t feel welcome at all. So we left after a day. Too many unfriendly people. and on top you have to ask for the WiFi- password - they won’t give it to you , they just tip it in so you don’t know it.
I wouldn’t recommend it- better go somewhere else.

Decent hostel with a nice pool (only one was clean), very simple kitchen and not so clean facilities. Tents can only be pitched at the sandy parking lot which can get flooded at night when it's raining hard. Laundry service ($6,00) didn't clean very well. Hammocs and animals are nice, though. The beach is just a few steps away, but surfing is definitely not for beginners around here. Watch out for portuguese man o' war or worse. Oh, the owner of the hostel is paranoid about his WIFI. The code changes every few days and he will only enter the code into your device himself.

Sandy parking lot to camp right across from the beach. Awesome huge balcony to hang out on with decent WiFi. Two clean pools.
Washing machines are $6 a load.

If you do your own laundry with the machines watch out for the killer parrot, Paco. He lurks in the corner watching you with one beady eye and then all of a sudden when you're trying to get that last sock out of the machine he jumps out at you. Arm yourself with the nearby broom prior to - he'll take a peck at the bristles but should leave you unscathed. Good luck!

We stayed here for 3 nights, $5 pp. Good toilets and showers, kitchen is average we only used it for washing up and storing food in the fridge. Clothes washing area behind kitchen. The animals here are super cool and the view of the ocean is great. Staff here are nice! Super safe place and lots of hang out areas

Amazing spot to spend a few nights after long days on a bicycle. True tropical paradise with parrots, iguana and seven puppies and awesome ocean view with not so many people around like in El Tunco. The owner Saburo offered us 2-beds room for $15/night so we've decided to not pitch a tent this time. You can use two pools, hammocks, kitchen, clean shared bathrooms and there are pupuserias and some more dining places and tienda at a walking distance. Just have some cash ready because the nearest ATM is in La Libertad 20 km away. The bus from El Zonte to La Libertad is 50 cents and it's fun.

Nice big clear parking lot to park your car-truck. Gate not too high (2.8m) but wide. Rooms on the back and kitchen to use. Good WiFi. $5 to camp.

Report Check-In

Definetly not for big rigs.

awesome place.
right on the surfbreak. you can check the waves from the balcony.

Excellent people, great spot. Can Confirm other posts. We are a hair under 8 feet high and fit fine.

Report Check-In

Dogs not allowed due to them having parrots and an iguana. It's for safety reasons for their animals. I brought a dog and they let me have it but with a leash all the time.
Next door has music playing, but it's the spirit of the area I believe.

Report Check-In

Be aware that the entrance has 3 different metal overhangs and they all are roughly 3m high

Great place, beautiful grounds that are kept immaculately clean and tidy, opposite the beach, lots of places to have a beer :)

Report Check-In

Stayed 5 nights. Great place. Very comfortable. Paid $5 per person with electricity. Dog ok, but need to be tied up while in property. Up stairs deck with great views, and a beer drinking chill out pool is pretty sweet. WiFi was good enough in the parking area for watching YouTube.

Report Check-In

Great spot. Well shaded and lots of room. We are 2.7 m and squeezed in by an inch. One of the best spots we've been at in all of Central America. A definite 5 star, must stop if you surf.

Report Check-In

Great camping spot to meet other overlanders. It's close to the beach but far enough away where your car does not get hit by sea spray. $10 a night. Nice toilets and showers.

Report Check-In

Camped in dirt parking lot in front of the bathrooms under large almond trees, $5 per person per night. Wifi was decent and since we were in complete shade, Saburo ran an extension cord for us. A veggie truck visits town each morning and it's possible to purchase garafons of water from the delivery truck that comes twice a week. A few Comedors and a couple tiny tiendas are scattered through the small town. You can catch a bus ($.50 per person per way) to La Libertad from the highway to supply up (or flag down a truck or cab). The property is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. We ended up staying 9 nights, really chill spot.

Absolutely loved this place! We stayed for two weeks on purpose and another two weeks when our truck broke down (not a bad place to get stuck). Saburo and his staff are great. He helped us out a ton with finding a mechanic and getting a tow truck for us. The swimming pool and common area are wonderful, as is the terrace with a soaking pool. It’s great for hanging out watching the sun set. We were able to plug in at the bathroom. There’s a kitchen that you can use to cook and wash dishes in. The internet was the fastest we’d had in a while. They do laundry for $6 a load, or you can use their sink to do your own. We paid $5 per person/per night. El Zonte is small and super laid-back, and the surfing is great.

What a great spot! Very lovely staff, relaxing place which kitchen and/or restaurant. Surf lessons for beginners for 15 dollars an hour.

Nice hostel directly at the beach, Friendly staff. We camped in our vehicle for $10 a night.

Report Check-In

Very nice place directly on the beach with pool, palapa lounge, terrace with ocean view, shared kitchen and a lot of hammocks. Camping is in the shaded parking lot on black sand. The parking lot is OK, maybe not the nicest place to camp, but as you can use the entire facility you just need to sleep there. (Camping is 10 Dollars per night) They also have a great restaurant on the beach. It doesn't look very fancy but the food is awesome and cheap. If you are not a surfer: there is another huge sandy beach just on the other side of the river that you can walk to and swim at low tide. We had a great time here and stayed longer than we had planned!

Report Check-In

Owners were very friendly and welcoming, especially to our puppy. They have a huge iguana (they are feeding him every day), parrot and two dogs. They have two pools and it's a really nice place to stay at. We paid 20 US for a private cabin with ac, a fan and shower inside the room. They have cheaper dorm rooms and for 25 US you get a bigger bed plus your own toilet and shower in the room.

Report Check-In

Beachfront surf hostel with a secure place to park. $10 per night per person to camp, talked him down to $15 per night total with electric hook up.

Report Check-In

Hostel with possible camping area in the parking lot. Right in front of the beach. Cold power hookup (long wire), showers, swimming pool and wifi (poor) available. The price started in 10 USD p.p. but we were 2 car and the price was reduced to 5 USD p.p.

Report Check-In

As above but internet not working (and generally poor according to others). Camping on grass not allowed (we had trouble explaining our tent was on the roof). Big rigs will also struggle, insufficient space at the moment and height restriction around 2.7 metres.
