Latest Check-Ins

Lukwe farm is closed and has a new name: Yuwo. No idea what they offer…

Report Check-In

New owner is very friendly! Not open now, will open next year in April under a new name!
We drived down and was allowed to look around, amazing view to the lake!!

Report Check-In

Still closed, but about to open. They have it cleaned up and getting ready to receive guests

Report Check-In

The place is still closed as they are changing owners, they said they would open in July

Report Check-In

This place is closed now because it's renovated. It will open in March 2021.

The bar and most of the lodges have a deck viewing the valley and lake. The site is situated inside the forest with many pretty paths.
Sometimes it's in the clouds which is nice, but at night also difficult to find your way. Some solar lights or reflectors at the side of paths would be handy.
There should be hot water from a donkey but when we tried not enough water came through to shower.
The compost toilets are nicely made and instructions are pretty clear. The toilets have a view when doing business, but because of the low wall there is only enough privacy when you are seated.

The renovation looks pretty finished, but there is still one month to go. I hope they will improve a little bit more.

If you are looking for a green and quite site stay here.

Our favourite campsite in Malawi, very quiet, great camping spot in the forest with a lovely wooden shelter. Bar and terrace with outstanding view. Delicious home made food made from scratch with home grown produce (fishcake and veg special at 4000 kwacha was one of the best meals we had in Malawi). Delicious coffee that owner grows and roasts himself. Owner very friendly and knowledgeable. We stayed 3 nights and were very sad to leave. We took the long road north from Rumphi and then drove down on the pass on the way out to M1. The pass is the route we would recommend to take both ways.

We also ended up staying here for 4 nights. It was a very peaceful stay with friendly people and great food and big portions. Their compost toilet is very nicely done. Always had hot water in the showers. The filtered drinking water available taste wonderful. They have a beautiful forest garden and is just a short walk away. You can also walk to the waterfall. We took the pass up the mountain in our truck and it was well worth it and manageable.

Stunning location with beautiful lake views. Wonderful common area for drinks and meals, great place to relax. Little huts perched on the ridge strategically placed for privacy. Huts are not self contained. What I did find peculiar was the toilets... double toilets ie 2 in the same compartment, you could go with a friend. Odd.

Beautiful place! Especially the view from the veranda is stunning. Ablutions are very clean and the showers are hot! The staff and the Belgian owner are very friendly. Go here if you want to avoid the backpacker crowd at Mushroomfarm.

Report Check-In

wonderfull place. well organized. very good installation for campers. but we opted for the cabin since they are not expensive and they have a view. but campers could still enjoy the view from the common area around the bar.

Report Check-In

As everyone else is saying; really nice place with an amazing view!

If you want a more secluded, peaceful, time, come here. If you want a more backpacker feeling with more guests around, go to Mushroom Farms (also good place) next door.

A beautiful spot with excellent overlanding facilities as described. We travelled up to the camp site in torrential rain (March) and it was pretty hairy. The road turned to river in a matter of minutes and we were quite worried about the road collapsing. We are in 4x4 Hilux. Would suggest avoiding in heavy rain. Food was absolutely delicious (vegan ‘full English’ was definitely best breakfast I’ve had in Africa so far! But food is very expensive (although we think ‘worth it’) so be prepared to splash out if you’re not self catering.

The road from the south is under construction for 50 kilometers go slow travel.. The last 10 tarred. The campsite the owner the manageress all very welcome people. Camp clean facility's good. The road down the mountain to main road is a must only like 11 kilometers, very twisty and downhill. Can be done in the rain also. Go slow. But a must.

Serene and beautiful place. Woodwork is impressive. Good place to rest and enjoy surroundings.

Report Check-In

Great place came here after staying one night at the mushroom farm and wished we stayed here for the two nights instead. Good camp with toilets And showers close by and very clean. Had a great meal in the restaurant! We payed 4500mk per person to camp. Chalets are available too.

Report Check-In

This place is nicely located on the cliff with breathtaking view over the surrounding area and lake. They have tents and levelled camp sites, although you only have a view from the bar/restaurant and tents.

They have two eco toilets which can be smelly and really not our thing as you can clearly see what the person before you has been done. There are only 2 showers for everyone which don’t have proper pressure when you want hot water.

Food is affordable and quite okay.

Wifi is not available.

As described by others. Communal braai/kitchen area and water supply. Hot showers and compost toilets. All beautifully maintained and clean. Flat camping pitches but no power, and weirdly no rubbish bin. Order non-vegetarian meals at the restaurant in advance as time is needed to defrost meat. Stunning view from the restaurant. It took us around 1hr to get up the road from the lake (dry season, Toyota Hilux). Well worth it but probably need to stay more than one night!
4,500 MKW pppn.

came for lunch, restaurant has a beautiful view and food was great.

Wonderfull place! 3 spots for car with roof tent with a place covered for cooking if raining. Clean and nice ablutions close to camping place. Hot water, can be only warm if rainy season. Restaurant and bar with a really wonderfull view on lake. Nice garden and direct access to waterfalls. Staf friendly. Bad road to get there but if you take your time, 1.30 hours, this is really the place to go. We were there under the rain and the road is definitively not a problem. Camping is 4500 MWK ppn. We used room for 21000 MWK for 2 because the view from there was wonderfull. You seem to be in the tree...incredible quiet and peacefull place.. try it!

Beautiful camp! Everything is built by the owner and looks fantastic. The view from the restaurant is wonderful. Take a look at the gardens and from here you can also see the waterfall.
The owner and his staff is very friendly.

Beautiful and well maintained campsite.Good food and amazing views from the bar restaurant. One of the best views I had so far in Africa. Belgium owner is friendly and can organise trips on foot or hire bicycles. Very laid back atmosphere. Everything is eco friendly. Toilets and showers too and are very clean but in some of them you won't have much privacy as they are pretty much in the open. Hot water. The cottages and safari tents also have excellent views. Pitches for cars are very level and decent. Standpipe nearby. Pitches for tents are in middle of the forest, very beautiful.
Camping 7 dollars.

Great location about 1km past mushroom farm. 3 vehicle camping spots with a covered eating area. View from bar is stunning. Food is great especially the vege options and the beer is cold. Owner is very friendly and can recommend walks/runs to do around the area. Easy walking distance to waterfalls and Livingstonia town. $6pppn

Beautiful view from the bar. Not from the camp site.

The price for camping is 4500 MKW. I didn't stay because it was 3500 MKW at Mushroom Farm with a much better view.

Report Check-In

Such a beautiful place, views from the bar are amazing! Campsite is lovely, little places to sit and have braais. Drinking water for free at the bar. Facilities great - compost toilets and warm showers. No electric but you can pay up charge your phone via solar. Restaurant has a wide variety and is reasonably priced, drinks are at the higher end. Shop in mzuzu if self catering. Chalets are 19000mkw, and camping is 4500 per person per night.

Beautifully set-up camp in full eco style. Hot showers, clean ablutions. Very pleasant place to stay, after managing the 12km bumpy road up-hill.

Report Check-In

Lukwe-Livingstonia is without doubt one of the most scenic places in all of central Africa, Lukwe compliments this all and is therefore quoted as one of the top ten highlights from Cairo to Cape Town.
