Description

Awesome Lodge and Campground directly at the beautiful white sand, palm-fringed beach. Perfect for relaxing in the Shades, Swimming and campfires at night. Often busy with Overlander and Campers but there's a lot of space for camping. Beach boys and other hawkers are polite and not too intrusive, they always stay far away from your Car. Nice and relaxed Colobus Monkeys and not so nice Vervet Monkeys hanging around in the Trees all Day. Huge Ablution Blocks, cold Shower only, a bit run down but cleaned daily and okay. Electricity only at Restaurant/Bar. It's possible to charge Car Batteries there for 200 KSh per Day (charging Laptops and Phones is free). Wifi around the main restaurant. Good and reasonable priced Laundry Service. No Drinking Water available. No Water for Filtering but they will call someone from the Village who brings two 20 Liter Jerry Cans with good Water for 150 KSh. Some of the Beach Boys will even bring you Bread, Eggs, Fruits and Vegetables from the Main Road for a small Fee. Very friendly and helpful Camp Manager Idy. 700 KSh pppn for adults and 300 ksh pppn for children.

Take this campsite for how it is, enjoy it as it is and you’ll experience heaven on earth. This is a place to recharge, relax, chill and just be! Come for a day and stay for a year. It happens. 10/10

Report Check-In

Great campsite on the beach. Ablutions are ok. cold water only but that's fine. Nice washing up area. People selling fresh seafood coconuts and even a veg and fruit guy comes round. We did a short trip to some pools nearby which was nice. Loved it here. could have stayed longer. kes 700pppn

Report Check-In

Great spot on the beach. 700KS pp pn. Cold showers, no electricity. Restaurant and bar. We had dinner one night. Was great. Friendly helpful staff. Toilet block doesn’t look great but the showers and toilets are clean. Could do with some upkeep but we enjoyed our being right on the beach and the stay was pleasant.

Report Check-In

Twiga Lodge is returning to nature. At the campsite the toilets work, but have no seats (and no paper). The showers are cold water pipes. The rubbish bins have no bottoms – your rubbish goes on the ground. When I was there the wifi was not working. But the place is quiet and the staff are friendly. The bar is well-stocked and the restaurant food is good. If you have time, check for alternatives, but Twiga has a nice beach and a faded charm.

Report Check-In

Google maps had us driving though people's houses, the actual location is correct, just the, guidance is bad. Rough road in but the prize at the end is. worth the effort. The ablution block is very basic, no hot water (unless you get showered early afternoon when the pipes are still hot) no toilet seats, but they are kept clean. You are welcomed at the restaurant and bar, great food at reasonable prices. There are beach hawkers, but they will move on if you say no. Very hard to beat the location, warm water and sand. 700KS pppn, hard to get better value.

Report Check-In

Checked in yesterday, exactly the same tropical paradise as it was 10 years ago .. I love it here!

(Road is easily accessible so don’t let that block your visit here)

Report Check-In

Really bad road, now in rainy time theres a big deep flooded part, we couldn't get there with our campervan, so we left. Seems to be the onliest campsite in the area.

Report Check-In

Camp has been updated with a new communal kitchen room ( a empty room with a step on both sides to sit on) there is also a much needed new block to wash dishes and the bathrooms have been somewhat re-tiled. All this comes at a cost. Adults are now 700kshpppn kids are 300pppn

Report Check-In

Nice and calm campsite, literally on the beach. Very calm and a apparently a choice for a lot of long term campers.
There are few people trying to SE snorkeling, or fish, or massage, or whatever, but it's not that bad.
The price is 700 tsh ppn.
Ablutions are not bad, but definitely could use some improvement.
There's a bar and a restaurant with WiFi, not sure if it is that good.
Airtel signal it is ver vulnerable.

Report Check-In

Amazing beach and sea. Campsite is shady. Ablutions basic. No chance of running an extension cord to your campsite, all places with lights have no plugs. Don't camp too close to the ablution blocks or "kitchen area" as they have floodlights on them which remain on all night (and the night watchman puts them back on if you switch them off).

Report Check-In

5* location! We camped right on the white sand beach, with a row of palm trees giving us shade. The aquamarine sea changes with the tide and u can swim, snorkel or just wallow in the warm waters. I loved walking out to the edge of the reef at low tide and looking in the rock pools (a bit depleted due to over collection but always the chance to see something) and snorkeling in a big pool teeming with different fish. There is a much needed constant breeze which keeps you cool. The ablutions are very basic but I mostly used the outside beach shower anyway which was fresh water. We stayed 11 nights, did some day trips out to Shimba Hills and Diani and got some welding done on our truck, but mostly enjoyed the beach and meeting other overlanders and campers. Eddie the camp manager and Abraham are so lovely and helpful, beachboy Eddie is initially a bit full on but leaves u alone eventually but u can get fish, fruit and veg, eggs and curios directly at the beach plus coconuts and a massage if u want! Beach bar and restaurant also available but we cooked for ourselves. Yes the weekends can be busy but set up in our idyllic beach front location we were not concerned. 700ksh pppn. Amazing laundry service (hand wash but seemed like it had gone in a machine) 400-500ksh

Report Check-In

We spent four days here. It's one option to camp on the beach. The view and surroundings are beautiful. All around the beach is white and clean. Except at the campsite of Twiga Lodge: The sand is very dirty due to charcoal and fire place leftovers. Nobody is cleaning, visitors are coming anyway. Toilets have no seats and no paper, showers are without showerheads. On weekends the place is very busy with families from Mombasa and Nairobi. The entire weekend we had about 20 small kid running and playing around our rigg. Everybody around is friendly, good vibes and good food in the restaurant .
For my opinion the 700 KS ppn are fare too much. Officially the beach area is public ...but they make you pay anyway

Report Check-In

Absolute Paradise!
Price is now 700 kes/ppn, but still totally worth it because of the location.

Report Check-In

Fantastic spot at the beach! Facilities are a bit old but were really clean everyday. Cold showers, flush toilets, dishwashing sinks, free wifi at restaurant (wasn't working for us). Great Safaricom and Airtel internet signal. 500 KES ppn the best value for money ever! Wish I could stay there for several weeks (and I'm not even really into beaches)... Bring your own toilet paper, none available!!

Report Check-In

Such a great spot right on the beach.. clean ablutions but no hot water. No power at campsites. We will definitely be back.

Report Check-In

One of the most beautiful camps we have been to.The location and atmosphere make you ignore the neglect.
We stayed 10 days.
Charge for power 200 KS per day

Report Check-In

Such a marvellous place, was just like paradise for me. My favourite campsite in Kenya. On a longterm journey, I stayed two month here from april to may. With my truck camper right on the sandy beach under palmtrees these two month were just great. It ate in the restaurant nearly daily. Tasty food for a reasonable price. Beef burger 500 KSH, peppersteak 750 KSH. Both come with salad and f.e. chips.
I will definitely come back another time.

Report Check-In

We stayed one night, liked the place a lot. Some friendly dogs roam the place, watch out for dog poop. A patinated restaurant with a lot of choices and great prices, also opened at 7 for breakfast. 500 KES pppn, very cheap. However, I’ve stayed at so many sites now that are badly maintained, this one also. They have the time but not the will to keep the details in good shape.

So great to be back.

Toilet and shower block has been re tiled and looking smart.
My favourite campsite in Kenya.

Report Check-In

The beach and the ocean are fantastic! You can camp right on the sand.
The toilets and showers are disgusting. No toiletseats, no toiletpaper, some dirty…
Was the reason why we left after one night.
Also the restaurant and everything else is totally old and demaged.

Report Check-In

Very nice place! You really can park right in front of the sea! A lot of friendly dogs running around, but be aware of the monkeys ;)!
The beach boys are friendly and are in our opinion not too demanding.
They are offering you snorkeling trips in the lagoon by low tide for 700ksh including snorkeling equipment. And for a bit more they show you a place with a lot of huge starfishes. Really worth it.
Eddy is a nice host and charge you 500ksh pppn.

This place is a real paradise! Edy, the host, the best ever, very friendly and helpful.
Preis: 500 KSH pppn, firewood 400 KSH.
Big area directly on the beach, big rig friendly.

Report Check-In

A great camping spot with the option to camp on the grass ir on the beach. 500ksh. Abblutions could do with some TLC at least so that the toilets are properly flushed. Otherwise a great spot to camp

Report Check-In

Amazing beach campsite.

Ablutions are cold but are cleaned frequently and the area is so warm there is not too much need for hot water.

Paid 500ksh pppn and had good food and cheap beer from the restaurant.

Beach Boys were present but not at all overpowering and would simply offer yiu services then move away if you declined.

Had one small issue with a beach boy who was drunk and persistent but the lodge staff came quickly to assist us.

All in all an amazing place to relax on the beach and do some snorkeling.

Report Check-In

A very beautiful beach as described by most reviewers. The campsite is very mediocre Toilets have no seats or paper and showers have no showerhead and only cold water.
The biggest problem we had here was with beach boys who are very over powering and demanding. they try to sell weed and woman( maybe ptostitutes).
we read all the reviews and were looking forward to some good days but decided to leave earlier as it got a bit too much for us.
It is definitely not like the previous reviews say it is but then maybe Covid19 has changed alot of things.
one good thing is the view.
my advise is if you go there then be prepared.

Report Check-In

In addition to the Barefoot Camp north of Malindi, apparently the only way to camp directly on the beach. We have had some nice, quiet days here. Eddy, the manager, is very friendly. Romantic tropical feeling. Camping and the driveway are BigRig friendly, but there are low-hanging branches in several places. Some beach dogs, which do not bother us, Colobus monkeys on the trees, the monkeys are also there, but they didn’t bother us. Bush babies scream at night. Attention coconuts fall from the palm trees every now and then. Some beach boys sell coconuts, fruits and vegetables, fish (how fresh are they in the afternoon?), Mussels, carved monkeys, etc.

Report Check-In

Indeed a beautiful place. It is big rig friendly for really big ones, too.

3rd time camping here.
2 weeks on the beach can’t complain - will defiantly avoid coming at new year again as it was packed with tons of noise but the day after it cleared up and were at peace again :)

Report Check-In

Caledonia to Cape Town Paradise camped here on the beach. Ablutions need an upgrade but clean. Good food and bar service & WiFi in the main building. Friendly staff. Weekend visitors and one weekend of very loud music until 2:30am put us off. Even so, spent 3 weeks just relaxing and swimming. Great fresh seafood from the beach boys and fresh coconuts from the beautiful palm.

price is now 500ksh ppn.
our children (6,9 and 10) paid 200ksh each. we tried hard to get the younger for free but the owner was not open for negotiation ;)
one morning we got a small snake on our roof.
great place, we really loved it.

Report Check-In

Amazing spot to camp! Very cheap at 400 ksh/pp. Complete beachfront on a very quiet stretch of beach, can't explain how beautiful this beach is, we stayed 8 days and wanted more! A few beach boys about but no real hassle. Resturant is cheap and food OK. Can walk to Diani along the beach at low tide only. Note that the road to the main bitumen road is known for theft so you must take a boda boda/tuk tuk/your own vehicle.

Report Check-In

What a view! It’s a fantastic beach to camp under the palmtrees and it felt like paradise!

Prices still 400 ksh pp, still run down facilities (restaurant has good toilets though). We actually liked the food in the restaurant! Wifi worked well from time to time, beach is beautiful and we weren’t bothered by the beach boys and girls; they didn’t stick around if you decline whatever they’re offering.

We charged our car battery without having to pay for it (with our own equipment to connect to 220v).

Good bookswap at the reception.

amazing spot to stay on the beach. we are with out RTT and I could easily stay for a week. beer cold, Beach boys will take you to snorkeling, bring you coconuts or octupus for few dollars. felt very safe

Park you car on the beach, jump into the sea, enjoy the lovely staff & beachboys.
The accommodation, restaurant and abolution blocks are basic and old.

We spend here 5 days and feel very save.
Price: 400 pppn
Wifi good
Food: didnt check
Bar: price of beer expensive
Location: beautiful
Staff: friendly

We did a check in Diani beach, but no where else you can park your car under the palmtrees at the beach.

If you are looking for this, then this is the best spot in the area.

Report Check-In

Super nice place with an amazing view. Can be really windy and there isn’t really any good protection.

Also I would say that you have to be careful about security as you are right on the beach and there aren’t that many guards for the camp.

Stayed here once again for more than two weeks. Wonderfull like all the years before.( was here first time in 1987)
Two things i would like to add.
Wifi is working very well now, depending a bit how bussy the place is/how many are using the net.
Important. WARNING !!
I had a walk at starting lowtide towards the cliffs ( left direction) shortly after crossing the second bend i was attact by three locals waving a panga apon their heads, shouting at me, wanting to kill me..they wanted my money.
I had nothing with me and they left me at the end, only taking my sunglasses and belt..still no good experience!!

If you are camping on the beach, surrounded by palm trees and a beautiful ocean for that price you can’t really complain about the rusty ablutions and beach boys trying to sell some things. We had a great time! One full bag of laundry was 300ksh.

Hello Friends, the Beach is fine ,toilets are ok, Restaurant,we drank Beer and used the WiFi,
we were nearly alone, with the frustrated beachboys( no business ) and the musicman Gen,
we enjoyed, but not really relax because the whole day you are in the focus of the locals ,
when there are more visitors ,it might be better.

We stand here for two weeks on the beach. It’s a beautiful spot! The beachboys aren’t hasseling you they only want to make money. The first day they will introduce themself and afther that most of the time they said only hello. We bought firewood by them because you are getting much more wood (400ks), instead of the camping (300 ks).
The only sad thing is that there coming a lot of young people and they making a lot of noise and want to listen to loud music in the night. Most of the time they come during the weekend and sometimes during the week. There is not a really rule about music and they are afraid to lose that people. So they only warming them and sometimes, if you are lucky, the music will be less louder. If you want to have a nice quiet stay here, don’t come at the weekend!
The WiFi works, if they paid the bill. In our case, that took one week.

Lovely grassed campsite right on the beach, ablutions a little run down but clean. Eddie the camp manager is great. However 2 beach boys really annoying and watched us all the time but if you bought 2 coconuts from them each day they sort of left you alone. Swimming was lovely and had our washing done there. Very reasonable 400kspppd

You can camp right on the beach which is beautiful of course. The rest of the place is a bit run down and there are only cold showers. Staff is very helpful but food in the restaurant is only mediocre. We were a bit annoyed by the beach boys but you can easily chill for a couple of days here.

Still the best Campsite along the whole Indian Ocean coast of all Africa. Not much changed since I have been here the first time 30 years ago. I am always coming back and still be grateful that a place like this still exists.

Waauuw what a beautiful place! We stayed here for 1 week and enjoyed every minute of it!
There are many sea turtles coming to this beach to lay there eggs.
You can call Said the turtle watcher, he monitor them almost every day.

He knows when the baby's come out and where the new nest are made!
We helped him with guided the baby turtles to the sea, it was so amazing 😍

Laid back camping directly at the white Sand beach. Paid 400 pppn. Two wonderful dogs on the property. Fisherman come by and offer fish and things. Abolutions old, but clean. Cold showers, also directly at beach. Stayed for 8 nights. We are coming back.

Report Check-In

Let me start by saying the obvious, that this place has a beautiful, beautiful beach. The weather is hot and humid but hey, the place is almost astride the equator and isn't the hot weather exactly what one would order for life and activities on the beach? Large camping grounds with lots of space and shade and no matter that the toilet facilities are spartan as that is common in the East Africa region. Overlanders should mentally programme themselves to expect that level of facilities if they want to avoid disappointment. The lounge area is rustic but comfortable with good reasonably priced wholesome food and even better views of the coconut palm lined, white sandy beach. very good strong breeze when we were there. Would come back at the drop of a hat and without hesitation! We paid Kshs. 400 pppd and loved every minute of it! The manager, Margret Makau, is very pleasant and will help you with any reasonable request. She made us feel right comfortable.

Report Check-In

Beautiful sunrises. Camped on beach in rooftop. Fascinating low tide. Saw large green turtle on beach at night looking for place to lay eggs. Watch food and rubbish as monkeys in camp. Do visit the Colobus Center. Bought fish from fish monger... really good. No hot showers, water tepid and ok as weather hot. Paid KSH800 for 2pn.

Nice site. Right on white sandy beach. Go swimming in the Africa shaped natural tidal pool (don't bother snorkeling).

Nice place at the beach, mind the soft sand - we got stucked after one minute!!! Very poor ablutions, restaurant was bad, but we really enjoyed Christmas here !!

Report Check-In

Great place to unwind and relax. Idi (not Eddy) is a very relaxed guy. Ablutions are very bad but you can use the sea and the outside shower to wash.
400 ksh pppn (300 for kids) for camping. You can park on the beach and swim (only!) when there is high tide. Mind the small blue jellyfish and sea apples though. Restaurant is not very good.
This all being said I would like to stress that this is a very relaxed place and I would really recommend it.

Report Check-In

Nice sandy beach and nice spot to camp. But too many monkeys turning around and stealing staff even in your car. You have to keep an eye on them all time, lunch time it's a nightmare, there are really annoying. You can't let something outside
