Description

Note: moved in December 2013. Many sites and guides still refer to the old location. Mainly guesthouse with many tour groups. Reasonably quiet in suburb of Kampala (can be noisy over weekends). Beautiful swimming pool. Good Wi-Fi.

Latest Check-Ins

The roads into Kampala are hectic. It was a relief to get here. The staff are friendly but uncompromising and don’t always understand us and vice versa. The campsite is very basic, an afterthought really. There are NO ablutions at the CS and campers must walk up to the main building to access ablutions. There is a rudimentary kitchen and scullery on site. The restuarant served a reasonable chilli con carne! There was an Overlander here too, their passengers were up very early as they set off at 5h00 (can’t blame them, to get to their next destination they have to be early). We’re all alone here now and its quiet all around with vervets swinging in the trees. A good option for overnighting in this hectic city.

Staff wasn't so friendly. Place is nice but 8usd per person, also kids above 5 years it's too expensive! We came late so swimming pool was closed, wifi doesn't work and they refused to make a discount. In other similar place in Uganda we paid 5usd per adult only with breakfast (coffee, tea and bananas but it still something), here it's 8usd even for kids and without a coffee.
And we slept really bad because of lots of music from bars around and church (Saturday and Sunday). So, just for one night!

Report Check-In

Nice quiet place on the outskirts of Kampala. Very well maintained site with great pool and clean facilities. At the CampGround sink with cold water but next to the pool toilets and hot showers. Pool bar, restaurant and deck chairs. We paid 8$ ppN. Drop-off point for overlander trucks

Report Check-In

Great place in a quiet area of Kampala. Try to avoid rush hour times or driving at dark in Kampala. Huge garden with big clean pool with bar. Camping is at a gravel lot, but there is a lawn next to it. Ablutions are up at the main building, but a building with sink to wash dishes or clothes directly at the campsite. Lovely welcoming staff, good restaurant. We stayed 4 nights and took an Uber into town. The coordinates are for the gate to the campsite, but you have to report first at the upper gate where the sign is.

Report Check-In

We were not impressed with this place but unfortunately it is the only place we could find to camp/park for the night. $8 pp and you have to park on the uneven parking lot. Cold showers as they use solar heating (no electrical heating backup when it's overcast) Say they are eco friendly but lights burning day and night?? They didn't have change when we paid, our loss. We decided initially to stay 2 nights after they assured us the showers have hot water. The next day we asked for a refund for the 2nd night because we rather move on. Again they don't have change and gave a different exchange rate. Twice we were on the short end. Not very friendly either. Nice pool but first get the basics right

Report Check-In

We plaid 8$ ppn but the conversion rate Ush is not favourable. We stayed 3 days and had to put our car with rooftop on the parking lot. Every day there were overland trucks and as always they are noisy early in the morning 5:30 am. The showers nearby the pool did have water. The restaurant serves good food.

Report Check-In

Place as described by others. Good ablutions with perfect showers (hot/cold) but approx. 60 m away from gravel parking. Nice pool ( could be crowded with day visitors).

Report Check-In

Nice resort for backpackers, overlanders, but also overland buses. Pool is nice and clean, bar is reasonable, but food is not great.

A gravel car park below the pool is where overlanders can stay but can be noisy if one of the overland buses arrives and leaves. during the week we were there we saw 5 overland buses with groups. All arrived in the afternoon and left very early and noisily.

Security is great and I felt safe leaving our truck.

The 'house' taxis waiting at reception charge 30,000 to town (one way) so better to use Uber (it's available) for a third of the price. This applies to the boda bodas too. Journey to town is 30+ minutes.

Overall we would stay here again if we return to Kampala.

Report Check-In

Small campsite with kitchen and access to power, but may not reach vehicle. You are not allowed to park on the grass so have to park on the outside of the car park. Toilets and shower 2 minute walk away always clean and had hot water. Nice pool - didn’t try food but has extensive menu. We paid $8 pppn. They offer a free shuttle into the central city three times a day, just need to book the evening before with reception.

We enjoyed our stay at red chili, we stayed at the camping area with our truck, pizza was nice and the pool was the nicest we had so far in Africa. Showers are africa hot 😄

Report Check-In

There are different informations where you are allowed to camp but we could spent the night on the grass field which was nice. Ablutions are ok but you have to walk all over the place. Though there were many guests it was surprisingly quiet. We totally recommend the pizza at the restaurant. It was awesome.

Report Check-In

We stay there one more night, this time we have to stay on the carpark, the grasfield is only for tents !

Report Check-In

You stay on a grasfield, the ablutions are clean with hot showers but far away behind the very nice pool. It is noisy about a Church and Moschee. The pad to the entrancegate was the worst we have in the last years, it is good for testing tanks.

Report Check-In

The price is $8 and they were using an unfair exchange rate to get a final price of 29200 Ush. Instead of rounding down they insist on 29200 but didn't have change and declined to make any effort to get me change until I had to make the long walk down to the campsite to get 200 Ush in coins so they could give me change. Also, I set up my rooftent in the parking area and then was forced to take it down and move onto the grass even though there was plenty of space for the overland trucks which never showed up anyway. I moved to the Backpackers Hostel and Campsite and had a much better experience there (20,000Ush incl breakfast) and I won't return here.

Report Check-In

Price for camping now 8US$/p/n or 29'200UGX(poor rate!)
Staff not really attentive.
Pool area nice, but overcrowded and noisy during day, especially weekends
Camping on nice flat grassy site, kitchen facilities, but occupied and dirty when used by overland trucks.
Clean ablution block, but had only cold shower. "Hot shower only when hot weather" as the staff explained to me😛
Pity there's no better alternative around Kampala

Report Check-In

Not much to add to previous comments. The ablutions are very clean and well maintained. Bit far away from camping area though. Restaurant is cheap and the food is okay. Swimming pool is very clean but crowded during the day. I was almost alone in the camping area. $7 pppn for camping. Like elsewhere in east africa there is a lot of noise day and night from churches, music, mosques, etc.

Report Check-In

Stayed in our rooftop. Nice flat and grassy site next to safari trucks. Not too noisy. Enjoyed watching crowned crane fly over. Paid USH70 for 2.

Report Check-In

Lovely spacious backpackers and camp site. Crystal clear swimming pool. Restaurant with pizza oven. Excellent Wi-Fi. USD7 pp camping.

Report Check-In

Very nice and big camping area. Trucks, overlands and ground tents accepted besides the pool area. Own tent at 7usd pp
Nice wifi and restaurant

Report Check-In

A huge back packers hostel/hotel on the south east suburbs of Kampala, camping is on grass area at bottom of site, nice pool but can get very very busy with day visitors, nice cheap food and drink from two bars, hot showers and decent toilets until the hoards of locals (day visitors) have used them. Can be very noisy in camping area at night from outside bars and crazy chanting preachers in churches ! Free shuttle into mall, but there are better shopping elsewhere and closer $7 pppn a decent rate for city camping

Report Check-In

Good campsite in Kampala. friendly staff, nice swimmingpool and good facilities! :) free shuttle to city centre.

Report Check-In

Don't expect a cosy campsite, this place is huge! Many backpackers and overland trucks. Facilities are good and there is also a free shuttle bus to the centre of Kampala. There is even a pool, 2 bars and a seperare stone oven pizza kitchen. The camping ground is also very big but stay far away from the back, there is water behind with a lot of musquitos! Camping is 7USD pp.
