Beach is beautiful, place safe and quiet at night. Hosts are really really friendly.:) But…. To be honest it’s really pricey. We ate at the restaurant ( was really delicious!) but we didn’t see that cheap fishburger or oysters on the menue.Ceviche and shrimps are around 200. And even we ate there and didn’t use a shower, they charged us 100 per person.So they are really nice and we stayed because we wanted to support them ( the beach and the delicious food is worth staying there)but all in it was actually expensive.

We stayed one night here. Osvaldo is a really nice guy. He saw that we are trying to find a level spot and mentioned, that he will make the parking more even. Next day, in the morning there was a guy leveling out the two parking spaces.
When we got there, it was extremely windy, which was actually a nice breeze after the heat. The wind completely stopped in the night. The music from the bar across Osvaldos place was playing music super loud and really late, we would have stayed longer but it was just too loud. Overall a nice place and a nice owner, good vibes!

Stayed here for a night - 100 pesos for the night! Clean bathrooms and shower and a place to charge electronics. There was wifi at the restaurant that you could buy if required. Unfortunately no surf so we moved on but great spot right on the beach. The sand flies are pretty bad so make sure you have lots of insect repellent!

As others wrote before, amazing restaurant, great food, lovely owners. Oysters 50 MXN for 6 pieces, fish filet burger with fries 80 MXN. They have an old 7'2" surfboard for rental, ideal for beginners (200 MXN a day).

Arriving just at sunset, and pulling down the road and up to the right into the little parking spots (up onto a little hill). I first want to clarify what others are saying about the rope toll on the road. After a long talk with Osvaldo, in Spanish, this is what he has said. He doesn’t speak or read in English, and doesn’t use iOverlander, so writing to him here won’t help. The rope toll is legitimate and was set up by agreement amongst the towns people. The money raised goes toward two things. First, is for “pastillas”, medicine needed for the community. Second, they now have contaminated water, and they use money to buy Clorox bleach. Finally, if anything is left over of what is not much to start, it pays for the primary school here and supports children’s education. He says they normally only charge surfers (sorry, I don’t know why that’s the case). Others that simply want to “conocer”, or get to know the place, won’t often get charged. At least that’s what they try. The access to the beach belongs to these people, and while the coastline may be free to everyone, this community sees your impact. If they stop you, be polite, give a donation. Sometimes you will see an official looking person in uniform, like military, and they are volunteers there to keep people safe, and the second person in plain clothes who is from the town collective, those who volunteer to represent the needs at the rope.

I’m sure it’s not much for you to pay but means a lot to them.

Ok, what everyone else has said recently is true. We experienced the most beautiful and powerful lightning storm I’ve seen on coastal waters. Gorgeous waves, not much natural shade, but Odvaldo has put up lots of shade around the restaurant. Hammocks around. Cold beers and delicious shrimp. Places to plug in and charge phones. Wi-Fi for a fee, like 60pesos for 24 hours, and 15 pesos for an hour, according to the young man we asked.
This place is great to visit and support this family.

Spent 3 nights here. Amazing little spot to park a van. Some of the best vibes between travelers I’ve experienced so far in Mexico. People traveling by van, moto, bike… laid back vibe great for surfers or anyone who wants to just chill for a few days.

Osvaldo is SUPER friendly. I won’t post the price here because I think it varies per person/mode of transport/if you plan to eat a lot at the restaurant, but it’s fair.

I chatted with Osvaldo a bunch. He’s got cold beers ready for ya when you arrive! The hammocks looked nice too. Plenty of shade. I actually got two days of work done here, which was nice.

Start hiking at 445/5am to make it to the top of the dunes for sunrise. You won’t regret it.

Very dog friendly. Loads of puppies running around and TONS of beach to play on.

Osvaldo, if you’re reading this, you should get the guys with the rope charging people to enter and leave to stop doing that. They were super sketchy and weird with me. They tried to charge me after looking into my van for an uncomfortable amount of time. I ended up just driving off, but it was bad vibe to end such an amazing stay in a cool place.

As everyone has said, really great spot with friendly people. We think we ended up at the wrong place though as the signs right by the beach were confusing. When we turned up we walked towards a slightly faded Blue Rock sign and asked the person if we could camp, which they allowed for free out the front of their place. We then looked across to our right and spotted a newly painted Blue Rock sign, so probably a new place. Seemed like a few places down here were getting new paint jobs and things so probably plenty of nice friendly options soon!

Surfer's paradise! Paradiso para los surfistas :)
I'm not sure why this is is marked as an informal campsite, it has a big palapa with enough space for a few tents, a basic shower and a flushing toilet (not a pit toilet, as is listed).
It's a beautiful spot, Oswaldo is a sage and sits watching the waves all day and chatting to customers. He sat with us to talk about his turtle conservation project that he single handedly got up and running, he hopes to restart it after the pandemic soon.
He has a beautiful pup called Toby and you're basically on the beach. The waves are very good for surfing and bodyboarding (there are two waves across two beaches) and when we were there, my partner had the water to himself. The only reason that I am telling you this is because Oswaldo asked me to! The food is also delicious, but some people staying in a big van cooked for themselves and Oswaldo didn't mind.
He also sells WiFi fichas.

Super lindo lugar para surfistas, hay una palapa con espacio por un par de carpas y espacio más arriba para dos vehículos. No sé porque dice camping informal, tiene una ducha básica y un baño. El dueño se llama Oswaldo y es un sabio, se queda viendo las olas o conversando con sus clientes. Nos contó de su proyecto de conservación de tortugas y está esperando comenzarlo de nuevo después de covid.
Si eres surfista, es imperdible. Uno duerme casi al lado de las olas, y no había otra gente en el agua. Nos encantó y me fui con lágrimas en los ojos.
La comida es muy buena y se vende fichas del internet.

we planed on staying with our tent at the Blue Rock restaurant for 1 night, but because it was so wonderful we end up staying there for 3 nights!
The owner and his family were very friendly, the food was amazing and the beach was perfect!

Stayed one night, really nice beach camping. Felt safe, just a few meters from the beach locals around are really nice. Perfect place if you want to have a remote beach area to almost yourself. Some other overlanders lined up :) perfect for any kind of vehicle. 4km dirt road from the highway, but manageable for any vehicle.
No cell service, but WiFi available at the restaurants, didn’t use it so no clue about speed. Almost no bugs. Waves looked great and loved the vibe of the „stranded locals“. Paid 100p for van/night.

Nous y avons passé une fois 3 nuits et une fois 5 nuits. Superbe endroit. Le restaurant en face le blue rock est bon et les propriétaires très sympathiques. Possible d’utiliser leur WC et d’avoir un peu d’eau. Nous y mangions une fois par jour. La dune est splendide. Un de nos lieux préférés. Nous y avons vu des dauphins et des baleines au large. Nous sommes passés sans difficulté pour y aller avec notre cc de 8,50m.

Amazing beach/area, heard surf is good in season and very clean area. We were adopted by the sweetest black dog who didn’t leave our side the whole time 😔
People are super friendly, SUPER friendly
And we shared business between two places to help support them.
Very quiet we were alone except a few locals for drinks in evening.
Added location for second restaurant here but there is also a third.
End less sand beach and would spend more time if we didn’t have deadline.
I’m sure the turtles come here to hatch as well saw couple skeletal remains on walk to amazing dunes.
They need to start a sand boarding outfit here as well. Just couldn’t communicate that to them

This was actually one of the best spots we have stayed at so far. Owner was friendly and the nature is incredible the ocean is beautiful and you can actually go in it also great surf spot. The lagoon is right next to the ocean and everything looked like it has been wrapped in cotton candy because of the steam! There is a huge Sand Dune that is 127m high and 1km wide that we hiked on and it was such a nice view up there. The stray dogs who are living here just kept us company the whole hike.
We stayed for free and payed 20ps for showers. They have Baños there too.

What’s worth mentioning though is that there are a LOT of sand mosquitoes ( or sand flies) especially on the sand dune and they’re not the same as normal mosquitoes. We walked into a swarm of them and got bitten very badly so make sure to wear protection against them or just run away if you notice you’ve walked into a swarm. Also lots of mosquitoes during dawn in the whole area.

But besides that it was amazing and we will definitely come back and would recommend this place to everyone!

We did buy a beer from the owners restaurant for the free stay! He was muy tranquilo.

Lovely spot with a lagoon next to it. The owner Osvaldo is so kind and friendly!

We arrived after 6pm and no one was at the entrance of the beach to charge us, also left after 6pm and was not charged.
We stayed with van and Osvaldo didn’t ask money for that, and he offered to set up our hammock in his restaurant! we offered and paid 50p p/night to use space and toilets. We also ate in his restaurant (delicious!)

Now that they are charging 200p/person for camping at Playa San Diego, this is a much better alternative for free camping on this section of the coast! We managed to drive in when the rope was down and thus avoided paying any kind of toll (as some others have mentioned), but can’t comment on what amount is being asked for or when it’s being “staffed”.

Great spot. Osvaldo welcomed us right away as soon as we arrived. We had dinner and breakfast. And the WiFi fichas worked really well. Bathroom and shower were in ok conditions.

We slept here for one night. It’s still free but he asked for a donation for the turtles. We ate very good seafood at the restaurant and got some cold beer. The beach is beautiful but sometimes there is a really strong wind.

4th time lucky looking for a secure place to stay and we weren't disappointed. Lovely, remote beach next to a small restaurant. Free. No mozzies but then it is the dry season and windy too. There's even a bolted rock climbing route on the adjacent rock if you want to trust the rusty gear.

There is a campground 500m inland in town but it looked kinda bleak with minimal security.

Beautiful spot between the ocean, the long beach and dunes.
Spent one night here and felt very safe thanks to Oswaldo and his family sleeping on the spot too.
They were very kind to let us sleep for free and offered their bathroom for 10$ ( which we didn’t need).
We ordered some tasty food from the restaurant ( but they didn’t require).
Definitely worth a visit; the sunset was incredible .
As for the “toll fee”; we didn’t see anybody and the chain was down. Not sure they still charge , we didn’t pay anything .

Exelente lugar para acampar tranquilamente a la orilla del mar y aún lado de las hermosas y únicas dunas de arena blanca las cuales puedes escalar. Definitivamente una de las cosas más impresionantes que he visto en mi vida.
Por otro lado las personas en el restaurante son muy amables, tienen buena comida a buenos precios.
Este es un lugar alejado del sonido y luces de la cuidad en el cual puedes acampar por solo 50 pesos por persona.

Spent one night . Everything is still the same.
Bought a beer and had breakfast. Night was free… Would have been free even without consuming… No one charging when driving out today. My luck.
Talked to Oswaldo about this random charges… He said locals agree to charge, and some get lucky not to be charged, so be aware you may have to pay at least 50 pppn if not 100, if “selected” by the toll. Chain was down when I drove both ways…

Osvaldo el dueño del restaurante frente al mar muy buena onda. parqueamos en el medio del muelle. muchos mosquitos. el agua super limpia.
lo único malo de este lugar es la comunidad, que para entrar se abusan y quieren cobrar mucho dinero, en nuestro caso éramos 4 personas dormimos dos noches y a la salida nos querían cobrar 100 pesos por persona y por día. no nos dejaban ir. se pusieron agresivos. no volvemos más!

Beautiful Camping spot, even for tents. Showers and toilets available, amazing beach, gigantic sanddune. The owner is really nice, he will tell you a lot about turtles if you're interested. He said we just have to pay a donation, it's for the turtle protection. We gave him 100 pesos for 2 of us and a dog. They also serve really good food, fresh fish and cold beer.

Locals set up a rope block and wanted 30 pesos/pp to pass. There was six of us and we told them we wanted to look first by foot before we paid them, but it was no hope. We ask the local surf camp and she told us they can’t do anything about it. The town has mix reviews on them doing this but can’t stop it. Even if you stay at the surf camp you will have to pay. Seems like it’s a random occurrence so try your luck, we moved on but I bet it was nice. Bring supplies as the shop in town was really basic.

Beautiful beautiful place with great stars and no lights. The sand fleas are insanely bad though otherwise we would have stayed longer. Oswaldo is very welcoming. Be sure to leave some money when you leave to support the clean beach and turtle program.

Great place. Owner was very kind and talkative. He was at the beach when we arrived. With him was the town drunk who kept asking if we had any beer for him...when we said no, he started asking for money to buy a beer, then he started to try to sell us sardines that evening or lend him money and he’ll bring fish in the morning, so he could buy a beer.

While not aggressive, it was uncomfortable and off putting. Made us feel like we wanted to leave.

However, he finally left and we got to chat with Osvaldo and had a pleasant night.

He is starting to ask for donations for the turtle shelter, so while it could be a free stay, it’s hard to not give. 50 pesos is worth the stay.

When I arrived there was a beautiful strong winds blowing on shore which was wonderfully cooling. All the locals were welcoming. I felt very safe here.
Being on my own swimming didn't seem like a good idea. Highly recommended for natural beauty of this free camping spot.

there is two restaurant/bar now : the blue rock and to the left : The Lichk. a sort of surf bar. Both look closed yet. We stay near the surf bar along the sand beach. very quiet.

There is also a turtle center now, but we didn't see any turtle...dolphin instead!

What an awesome place! The restaurant was closed as usual during the windy season. But if you pack food and water at the nearby pueblo (ask for la Tienda Noemy), you can spend the best beach time ever on this pristine beach. Oswaldo welcomed me very nicely and introduced me to his family without touching any of my extremities. Oh! He actually took me on his arms on my departure day😊 Highly recommended!

Osvaldo chatted with us about surf spots for a while. TONS of wind and no waves for the next couple of months, so we opted not to stay. He said come back April to June for best waves- good beginner wave right next to expert wave out front. He was very friendly and open to offering other suggestions/recommendations for places to go.

LADIES, BE WEARY! Oswaldo seemed very nice and conversational, but I (the female half of our party) made the mistake of saying goodbye separately from my travel partner, during which encounter Oswaldo grabbed my boob! We promptly LEFT. Other than that it was nice and a gorgeous location, but don't approach Oswaldo alone. CREEPY!

We loved this place.. osvaldo is the most humble man we have met. The food at the restaurant is super fresh cooked with locally grown ingredients. The surf at la bamba was fun too.. osvaldo let us stay the night for free, however the sand flies were eating us alive inside our truck camper. Therefore we choose to stay only one night. If you choose to come to this beautiful place, have a drink or some food at his restaurant, it's definitely worth it... bring deed!

This is a great little place. Osvaldo and his family are friendly ad welcoming. Plus the food is tasty, too! In addition, Osvaldo helped to found a cooperative to keep the beaches undeveloped and healthy. The organization is mainly focused on sea turtle habitat but is also looking into helping to restore populations of an endangered Mexican mangrove tree and potentially develop some trash collection for the beach. Chat with him about it! They have received a small grant and will but building a turtle facility in the coming year...

The owner and his family are wonderful and friendly. He does sleep here over night, but advised us to not leave ANYTHING out! It's free, and he never mentioned needing to eat in exchange, and we could use his ecological toilet. It's my least favorite toilet situation so far, but at least you have that. Too many car loads of surfers to go and dig a whole for your business.
We choose to eat dinner every night to say thank-you for the use of the area and the security. The sand fleas are the worst I have experienced. They don't seem to care about my deet bug spray. I'm slathering on.

This is free. Just next to the beach and with a great view of the wave. Osvaldo the owner is a lovely and very friendly man, so is the rest of his family. Stay there and buy some meals from his restaurant! FYI it's very hot and there's mosquitos so bring a mosquito net or lots of bug spray or both!

We checked out the coco rv park. The lady was nice but there were no views as it is a ways from the ocean. We talked to some other campers that had been staying in their van and in a tent under the palapa at the restaurant on the water. The restaurant owner was really sweet and enjoyed sharing his palapa area communally. We parked a bit to the left of the restaurant in one of our favorite camp spots yet. He said staying a few nights we didn't need to worry security wise but longer and people from neighboring towns would notice and possibly try and take stuff we didn't put inside the bus at night. The restaurant owner stays there overnight so we felt safe.

...Un bout du monde, sous les etoiles, donnant sur une immense plage a la Robinson Crusoe...Avec en prime la presence bienveillante D'Osvaldo dans son petit "Resto Guinguette" rendant ce lieu absolument authentique.. Quelques emplacements proches de Palapas sont accessibles (terrain meuble..), Spot de Surf, une anse un peu protegee rend la baignade possible ...! Point d'eau douce (puits), gratuit... Un don est bienvenu pour l'association de benevoles de protection des tortues dont Osvaldo fait partie.

Wild camping beside a rustic comedor. The owner, Osvaldo, is very nice and welcome. Just in front of a beautiful surfer beach. No facilities, just a ecological washroom of the restaurant. Very hot during the day but with some spots of shade and the sea we were ok.
