Latest Check-Ins

The previous description were so great that we decide to spend time here.
Despite the fact that we have been stuck in the mud with the truck (so definitely not suitable for big rigs), the promise was really not here. No help of anybody during the 6 hours taken to rescue the truck, the place where we should have camped was taken by the owner s hilux who was not there (so we stayed on the track)
no advices on the activities despite the fact that we asked several time and moreover, very unfriendly woman with a very agressive réaction when we ask for an effort on the price for the friends that came to help us with the truck and because the night arrived, had to stay here.
Water with low pressure (hot with donkey we asked on the morning, cause it was not prepared the night before)
Definitely a place we do not recommend

We spent three nights here. Charity the owner did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Place needs a lot of maintenance work and TLC but, its cheap and safe and ideally situated near the lake and village. Charity made dinner one evening and we joined her and Hennie, a guest for a delicious fish and chips dinner. All in all a good stay.

Report Check-In

Grass and shaded trees. Some water and electricity near sites. Ablutions could be better but working order. No hot water in showers.

Met Hennie & Steven starting a PADI Diving school and excursions from Mpulungu onto Lake Tanzanica operating from Nkupi Lodge.

Report Check-In

Ideal place to stopover for catching ferry to nsuma Park, you can also load your motorbike. Charity very friendly and merina, manager cools the best meal for ypu. He is passionate about fish and runs fish tanks for export. Accommodation is simple but as a traveler that camp a lot we are happy. Chalet was 300kwatcha per person. And shared ablution hot water although it is soo hot here you want the cold shower!

Awesome place. Charity, the manager, and her son Marino are super accommodating and friendly. Place is composed of number of "bungalows" that serve as rooms. Bathroom is outside and is very clean. There's WiFi if you ask for it. Nice spacious garden, you can walk around and enjoy nature. Fish market is just behind the corner. k200 for a night.

Report Check-In

Campsite in town, up the road from the lakeshore and not too far from the harbor.

Due to lack of visitors during Covid, their main source of income has become the bar on-site, which is frequented by locals. Needless to say, the loud music and lack of privacy was annoying.

Furthermore, since the campsite is in town, you hear dogs barking, traffic and other hustle and bustle.

The campsite itself is a bit run-down, but the ablutions were clean and the manageress is very friendly and accommodating.

No electricity at sites, but we were allowed to use one of the chalets to plug in our camping fridge. Water is available at the sites, and a common kitchen is also on-site.

Regarding Carnet: don't bother going to the harbor first. The Zombe/Kasesya border is able to stamp your Carnet de Passage; however, the border is not able to process Temporary Import/Export Permits on the Zambian side.

Report Check-In

We stayed at the Nkupi Lodge campsite for three nights. The manager, Marino, is very friendly and concerned about the guests. Slightly narrow entrance for BigRig. The place is ideally suited to see the life on the lake and the market (5 to 10 minutes on foot). The on-site bar played loud music every day from 2 / 3pm, sometimes a little quieter. At 9 PM the music was turned off, but the chatting of the guests sometimes went on even longer. In the early morning, many roosters crow in the area, followed by the dogs barking. Also music and other noise from the city. Warning, the lodge is to be sold. The continuation of the camping is therefore not entirely certain.

Really enjoyed my stay. Great drop of 700 metres down to the lake, nice greeting by the manager Marina or Merino(?) and some lovely discussions with the dignified owner Dennis about his life in Zambia.
75kwa ppn and a big load of very dirty washing was well done for 50kwa.
I ate lunch and dinner each night across the road at the ramshackle waterfront bar. Quite cheap, and good sides of chips and coleslaw with fish or chicken etc.
It’s much more humid by the lake at 700m, so it’s a good place to slouch around, rest, do your mechanical checks, have a rest etc

Nice campsite with big grassy pitches. Walking distance to waterfront bar which provides a great view of the lake. Helpful and friendly staff.

Report Check-In

A warm welcome from Charity and camping is kw100 pppn now, spacious and nice shade but it is in town so the lake water is quite dirty, the rooster concert starts at 4am and not too scenic but good for a night after a long drive. Great to have warm temperatures again after cold central Zambia so the cold shower was ok! Go visit the lakeside market 200m down the road

Report Check-In

As described by others. Plenty of shade and power available if have a long cable.
Showers almost hot.
The taps on the campsite are not working, the only water available is from a hose in the area used by fish researchers which is lake water.
Big rig friendly.

Great place as previously mentioned. cost was K150 pppn. Waterfront Bar across the road was good for cheap beer and food.

Simple but very nice and green campsite in the small town Mpulungu. You can pitch up on the grass and there is loads of shade and several taps with potable water. Friendly manager Charity allowed us to take electricity from one of the simple chalets. She also prepared some nice grilled fish (nkupi) for us for 75Zk pp (6,50€) and camping was 60Zk pp (5€)

Very nice host. She prepared us great dinner and was very helpful and caring. The campsite has clean facilities and lots of trees for shade.
