we were here in 2013 also and it is was very basic, now it is based on tourists and they made a new building (the reception) at the point where we had our campervan at that time. we got visits in 2013 of a yellow eyed penguin just next to our camper. now these animals are very rare because of the tourists. such a pity. in 2013 there were still about 550 pairs and now 200 pairs left. but moulting in March for 4 weeks. so they do not come out the water on the land in the evening. they hide on land as they are not waterproof these 4 weeks. at the other side of the camping there shpuld still be blue penguins coming up. we didn't see them as it was already to dark.
