[Bicycle touring]

good place to spend the night in the wet season because there are roofs to sleep under and later in the day it's empty.

Report Check-In

We did not take our diesel-engine to this spot because it is hard to sleep at such altitudes. We did a daytour from Huaraz in a bus, 40 Soles p.P. Not included entryfee to NP. We recomend to take a horse for the first steep stretch (15 Soles p.P.). You have much more time at the glacier and can enjoy the Tour more. We saw a lot of exhausted people having difficulties with the nearly 5000 meters.

Wow, amazing place! We made it without 4x4 but had some minor car trouble due to altitude. Impossible to sleep but totally worth it! Don't bother getting up too early, day visitors don't arrive til 10. We had the glacier to ourselves for hours. One of our favorite spots!
Note that on the ticket it states dogs are not allowed as usual in national parks, but no one cared about our dogs on leash.

We had a great clear sky night, bit no sleep at this altitude but morning whow what a sunrise and totally alone on glacier.... Honestly the glacier its bit off after few in patagonia but the road thru is worth it... Awesom ride

Report Check-In

I was on a solo bike tour from Ecuador to Ushuaia. I camped here for 1 night (at -9.899831, -77.185088). There were some possible wild camps en route to the Pastoruri Glacier bur most cyclists would prefer to camp at the Pastoruri Glacier Tourist Center (= main complex). I pitched my tent under an east-facing eave in front of one of the locked vendor stalls. I borrowed a vendor table and bench for placing my stuff and for meals. See photo.

A better than expected free campsite. Pros: covered area and paving blocks on floor, facing the early morning sun, Tables and a bench were available. Ladies bathrooms were open all night. During the day there were several food stalls, some offering hot food. Cons: 150 m walk across potentially muddy marsh to access water at the nearby river.

For more details see Day 83 of my blog "Cycling from Ecuador to Ushuaia -2019/20".

Small tent was allowed under the roof of the hallway of stores. A creek provided water to cook. Only one food stands was open which the business hours from around 11-16, and the price was ok(caldo de gallina for 10 soles)

Report Check-In

We entered and exited from the East side off of highway PE3N (Which is excellent), took us about two hours from the highway (we stayed at the lake halfway) as the road is pretty rough.

Entering and exiting from the East there is no control, nobody was around to collect any fees. Camping here looks ok, but there are so many good wild camps that are a ton better.

Park fees have gone up to 30S per gringo! Hard to avoid this one unless you enter late/early (guessing manned 6am - 5pm). Supposed to be per day but we whizzed out on the 2nd day without issue (there was no way they were getting more money anyway!)
We helped some stranded overlanders on the way up, which meant we got up there late and decided to spend the night as it looked an awesome spot, despite the 4,800m altitude. We weren't expecting 12cm of snow before we went to bed, but in the morning it had mostly cleared. Added to the adventure! Toilets 'open' all night, if you unhook the wire on the woman's door.
The road up is a little potholed, but fine.
Loved it - awesome place - go!

Beautiful drive up to the glacier, which we thought was amazing. Took about 1.5hrs (walking very slow as we were affected by the altitude +5000m at the glacier). Thought it was very much worth the drive up (1hr on an unsealed road, but in good condition).

10s pp entry (21 day pass to national park only available to buy in Huaraz). Pretty sure you can camp at spots listed on iOverlander with no problem, although we decided not to because of the altitude.

Report Check-In

There is not a lot left of the glacier so most of the circuit (which should not take a lot longer than an hour) you don't see much of it. But at the highest point there is a very nice mirador or the glacier and it's black lake.
The drive up through the park is very scenic if the weather is clear enough.

The glacier regress 15 meter per year..! It took us 30min up and 15-20 min down. Easy walk, but hard with the altitude!
You ll pay the park fees at the park entrance, not here (10sol). But if you pass the gate late, around 5pm or later, nobody. Some vendedor.

Report Check-In

S/.10 to enter park. We did not camp here but they told us we could if we wanted. It took us about 2.5 hrs to walk tok the glacier and back with our dogs, at a very slow pace. Very high altitude! Bathrooms available but no other facilities. There are some vendors here selling food and snacks atsmall kitchen stalls.
