Fuimos hasta la Banjercito a realizar trámites de baja y alta del TIP sin problema. Los TIP solo se pueden dar de baja en las oficinas de Banjercito que estén en frontera.

Monday morning really 4 people at 10 in the morning, quickly done
You need for FMM
Original passport
(No need for photocopies of anything)
Pay only with card, keep your receipt otherwise they can ask you to pay if you can not show proof of pay for the tourist permit when you return your cad when exiting
617 pesos

For the TIP
Copy of and original of your tourist card (owner/importer of the vehicle)
Copy and original of registration
Copy and original passport ( owner/importer of the vehicle)
973 pesos ( paid with credit cards visa mastercard or maestro no American Express , not sure if they accept cash…
You have to supply a phone number , your home address and fill up a paper say what you are importing (computer , ac, furnace, etc etc) I am not sure if you are exempt of importing more item that you are normally allowed, for example you can normally come to the country with only one computer, one console game, one sound system etc….otherwise you can incur in import duty (theoretically also you can bring with you a limited amount of used clothing’s !
Traveling with a motorhome, the TIP is valid 10 years ! And you do not have to put the deposit !
On the website I did not find this exemption of pay the deposit, I I found only if you where traveling in the free zone, but looks like motorhomes ( you need that on your registration) do not have to put down the deposit and you can come and go for 10 years.

Easy process. Converted US dollars to pesos and acquired tourist visas in less than half an hour.

We arrived around 2pm and it took us 4 hours to get processed. To be fair there were 13 of us travelling together in our converted school bus, but the immigration didn’t take too long, just the bus paperwork. We didn’t have the pre TIP which perhaps made it longer.

Arrived 11.30am. No line at all, easy to get the permits and friendly people. Took us less than 1 hour to arrange everything. If you don't have copies yet, you can arrange it here as well.

FYI This is a REALLY busy place to get your Tourist card/ TIP. We had a 3 hr wait. We are the week before Christmas, but even so, staff said that this was nothing. And from the number of staff working and parking space available I believe them. Get there early/ be prepared/ take a quieter crossing.

Report Check-In

Super easy. Best to get there early in the morning. There is a place to make copies (5 pesos per copy) but if you want to come prepared bring a copy of your passport, registration, and FMM (if you purchase online) one of each per auto or trailer.

returning to USA:

if you are driving up 15 to the US but you are crossing from Baja or other ports in Zona Libre, it might be a good idea to cancel TIP here so you do not get stuck in a border line where you cant park and are unable to cancel ajd have to go back into mexico to cancel, adding hours to the experience.

this booth is on northbound side of freeway, you wait in line (10 minutes on a sunday afternoon) ajd the guy checked vin and TIP and processed refund.

He said I was fine to drive to Baja to cross at Mexicali, Tecate or TJ.

The office is called banjercito and easy to find with this location here. You can do first a photocopy of your passport, visa, driver licence and registration of the car. Then you go to the counter and pay the temporary vehicle permition (around 50 usd) and pay the deposit (200-400 usd). Your visa you can get here as well or right at the border.

When driving north there isn’t any signs for this place. When you see the orange cones pull off to the right. The officer will check your vehicle and give you paperwork to take across the highway. You will need a copy of your passport and drivers license, this can be done on the west side of road. To return your tourist visa we were told we needed a receipt from when we purchased it. We never got one and eventually the officer said it was ok and stamped our passports.
